That banter was only intended to come up if you turned down both Isabela and Fenris.

As in, Isabela offers to sleep with you, and you said no. And then Fenris offers to sleep with you, and you say no. In this case, they would hook up in Act 3. This was the intention when it was written.

Looking at the scripting, however, it seems that it is checking to see if the Isabela and Fenris romances are ended. Which means you may have slept with them, but then agreed to "not bring feelings into it", thereby breaking off your romantic engagement.

So it sounds like if this banter is coming up in Act 3, then Fenris/Isabela are operating under the assumption that you are no longer in a romance.

Umm I had the same weirdness in Legacy during Act 3, Isabela and Fenris talking about their friends with benefits relationship, and I was in a romance with Fenris. I was not a happy Hawke. I came back, did Alone, and the romance worked as normal.
I don't mind party members having relationships, and could really see Varric and Merrill together, but my Hawke is a jealous type...Isabela slap!

Hopefully a screwed up flag?

If you're in a romance with one of them the banter shouldn't occur. So you probably have a screwed up romance flag.

The romance flags in Legacy for Fenris are currently not working. It's a known bug. They are sposed to be "working on it".

Does anyone know if Isabela reacts to you killing Fenris at the end of Act 3 if the both of them are together?

No, she doesn't. I'm thinking... she just goes off and finds Jethann or Zevran to be her elven lover instead :P

I'm SOOO glad I found this thread! I was a bit ticked when I saw this dilogue between Isabela and Fenris (where I romanced neither, but had romanced Fenris in a previous gameplay). I just didn't understand; Fenris takes his sweet time (seven years!) coming to terms with his feelings for Hawke, only to leave halfway through and beg forgiveness YEARS later. Assuming Hawke forgives him (as I did), he seems to become stronger and more...proud of his freedom, less touchy about his past experiences ruining his future happiness.I thought it was pretty deep, for him to express such things, going nearly a decade trying to understand his feelings and approach Hawke about forgiveness.

How can some like that just go and bonk isabela? Just like that. No seven year-tryst, no over-emo mushy feelings or "You don't know how upsetting this is for me!" type lines. It blew my miiiinnnd.

The only thought I could come up with was that with Hawke, it was about love and an actual relationship, something that perhaps triggered his memories in the first place (since his life was so rough). With Isabela, it's clearly just sexual, at least from what I've gathered of their banterings (Not to mention he never would have known about Hawke-love if you never romanced him in the first place).

What do you guys think? Am I just seeing things? lol.

I wish, because I have always found it bit absurd that the party members don't get involved together or that the main character don't have rivaly with other party member over someone. It would be refreshing.

Fenris and Isabela have a physical relationship not a romantic one. Isabela isn't interested in getting involved and Fenris is not used to love. My theory

In Baldur's Gate, if you're a male romancing Aerie, a rivalry (leading to a duel) happens between the PC and Haer'dalis, who is also interested in her.  Might have been cool to have more options for a female PC similar to this, but thats the only thing I've seen in a game that comes close to rivalry.

Well, there's a bit of jealousy from Bethany/Carver if you romance Sebastian/Merrill, but not a lot comes from it, because the siblings aren't around much.

One of the many reasons I always romance Fenris. The one play through I didn't, I got the banter and I wanted to punch Isabela and smack Fenris' head into a wall.

Yeah, Me and my Hawke are kinda possessive of our Fen-Fen XD

I like the Fenris X Isabela romance. Had the Fenris X Hawke relationship been like it, with its light banter, teasing, and not abandoning Hawke after one night together and refusing to talk about it for three years, I might have been able to make a Hawke that could romance him. But he seems happier with Isabela, so that's who he winds up with... unless my character is romancing Isabela himself, in which case Fenris is on his own. To each his own, though.

I get what you mean but I think it's largely to do with the fact the Fenris/Isabela thing is just that; light. There are no feelings behind it so there's no reason for Fenris to get uncomfortable around her. Whereas with Hawke he's really falling for him/her so there's a lot more to consider.

^^Yeah, I know. Some relationships are easier to approach from that angle and some people are more comfortable with when there isn't any commitment. Had we been given the option of letting Hawke keep it casual, it would have worked better, IMO. No angst, no separation, no three years of not talking about the elephant under the carpet. Just a light, fluffy, no-strings-attached fling that gradually turned into a solid relationship as they got to know and trust each other. To me, it seems far more likely for "friends with benefits" situation to gradually develop a caring committed relationship than it is for a guy with a long history of emotional avoidance to suddenly plead "Take me back!"

Honestly, I would have enjoyed a N-S-A fling that wound up growing into something more. It would be different. So seeing the Fenris X Isabela romance play out in game works well for me because it is the kind of relationship I would have liked for Fenris and Hawke. Vicarious enjoyment?

Agreed!! :D

I was mad is was only fenris and isabela. I like having all that conflict and drama  I think it would make the game more realistic. I mean, check all the hot pieces of ass you get in this game! How do they NOT get involved with each other??

That's kind of how the friend!Isabela/snarky!Hawke romance runs, provided you pretend the postcoital dialog isn't bugged. Funny, though, in fanfic it's much more common to see it written with Hawke falling in love very early and angsting along until Isabela catches up. Makes me think they could have written the Fenris romance a bit differently to allow people like you to read it as more casual-and-slow-blooming and still satisfied the fans who like the more dramatic arc.

It would make the Isabela/Fenris hookup a hell of a lot less freaking bizarre, too.
