Weird, prototypes always seem to give me an error message when I get them wrong, though usually the only thing I forget is if I add an argument and forget to add it to the prototype. Personally, I think it's just nice to be able to see all the function declarations at the start of the file without having to scroll - I guess you could keep these in comment form but you'd have to keep them up-to-date anyway, and you'd lose out on the pretty colours. Plus there's the issue of declaration order as mentioned before. I guess you can always comment them out if searching for an error, and it'd be obvious if they were causing the issue.

I haven't had any problems using prototypes and generally put them at the top of the script. This allows you to call any function from within any other function. So it is a useful thing.
The standard includes are a mess though. There are just too many include files that include too many other include files. Imho this makes code even harder to read than goto ever did.

Just one question ... Can includes be of any size? I only mention this because I find my generic functions include is becoming very large and can sometimes get very slow to respond when I edit it.
They can be huge. Get a better editor, not the toolset.
