Oh lawd, can we please refrain from using/abusing the bible, it's a sacred text at least to me and I'd rather not see people use it against others or for that matter people hating on it, it's very disrespectful. That being said, have at your conversation

Even though we live in a new millennium, we didn't suddenly leave religious practices back in the 19th century.

Expect we mostly did in Europe at least. Thank Pallas Athena, or some other pagan God for that.

So what, we should carry obsolete dogma into our videogames?

This.

If you feel nothing should be forced on you that crap shouldn't be forced on me. I already have to deal with it being shoved down my throat at home. Don't want it in my games.

Bleh. My goodguy Hawke is apparently a forced Andrastian. Bleh.

That's far more upsetting than being hit on. Especially considering I can shoot the person down. Can't make Hawke stop saying those stupid may Andraste guide you quotes. Not without a toolset. =]

Yes I can refrain from abusing bible, if people keep it out of this thread.

Or don't hide their prejudices behind it.

To say nothing of the fact that nothing in Dragon Age is compatible with hardcore religious values.
Murdering, thievery, money mongering, magic, consorting with demons.

I don't get it...if you don't want your character to pursue a relationship with another character of the same sex, then don't flirt with that character? Sure the dialogue wheel leads people astray more often than not, but you can always reload.

It can get kind of goofy if every character is bi, I tend to play both male and female characters so on each playthrough it does end up kind of wierd to have NPC-A, B and C flirt with my character regardless of gender. Sexuality is part of a character's identity. I know Bioware is trying to appease every player with the option that all romancible NPCs are bi option, but it can get a little rediculous. But, I understand why they did it. Perhaps in the future there will be more romance options where some can be selectively straight, bi or homosexual? Who knows? Either way, none of it will keep me up at night wondering.

This is the text book example of privilege that the designer is talking about.

"There are 2 gay option?!? The there should be 4 straight ones!"

There are as many straight options as there always were. But because now there are equal gay options, you deserve more stright options?

This is why I believe these homophobes should be forced to play games where gay characters have sex with them. They are privileged bigots and until they are forcibly made to encounter gayness as it was meant to be, they will cling to their guns, religion, and heterosexism. Avoiding homosexuals can no longer be an option. I really truly wish they could be forced to live with homosexuals, and possibly have sex with them. It's the only way we are gong to stomp this bigotry out! Also they should all be banned from this forum.

I have noticed it is acceptable in BW forums to attack heteros by calling them with names like "homophobic", which supposedly is something very insulting.

Heterosexualism is sexual orientation too.

If you noticed Epler didn't actually call any particular person homophobic. And those sort of people do exist.

In fact, my policy has always been 'be civil above all else'. If people are offended or upset by what someone else has posted, they are more than welcome to message a moderator and let them know, at which point the situation will be dealt with.

Certainly I have my biases, but I try to put them aside when I moderate. I'll give my two cents where I can, but I don't believe I've been any more or less forgiving of one side or the other. When people start throwing out insults, regardless of the motivation, they are warned and/or banned for 24 hours.

However, I am not omniscient, and the forums move at a brisk pace. So unless I'm told about a problem, I can't do anything about it.

Then I report right here Rafe34 for writing:

"just look at his signature, he thinks that he's the one who is getting
wronged in that conversation. He's a homophobic moron who doesn't know
the first thing about logic or English
"

Indeed. Those who would be offended because they're so devout wouldn't be playing the game in the first place.

The thing is, with the 4 bisexual characters we have, there is nothing in their history and identity that in any way prevents them from being bi.
Their upbringing has never taught them it's particularily wrong, their histories and events leave them with the need for a soul mate, whatever the gender. It works perfectly fine, so why shouldn't they be?

Well, you really did not understand what was going on in the thread you have linked in the signature. And having that around under your posts, especially with the inflammatory messages does not help anyone.

If that is where your beliefs are from, then honey, you should consider getting in touch with the modern times.

I'm going to let those comments hang for a moment. According to what you both just said, "Dragon Age II" allows the player to practice diverse behavior that is 100% acceptable by society.

You also said that religion is an obsolete philosophy, which has no basis for existing in modern times.

Both of those statement are wrong.

No.

Just like someone shouldn't be forced to play a game where straight characters have sex with them.

Basic respect should be on both sides.
