You people have literally never been hit on by someone of the same sex at least once in your life?

Nope. Never had any straight people hit on me either.:(

Unless I've just been completly oblivious.  Wouldn't rule that out.

Well, let's say you do set your sexuality at character creation. How is Anders supposed to know that? You're trying to bend him to your will, instead of letting him be the bisexual lover-boy that he is.

I find it difficult to believe that all of these characters were intended to be bisexual lover-boys/girls to begin with.

Okay, well, that's your issue, because it's a point that the devs have addressed several times. And you still didn't answer the point.

How many times must I repeat myself? Becaues it is easier to suspend my disbelief when people don't just presume Hawke wants to sleep with them.

You mean Anders attempting to flirt with you. Once.
That kills your suspension of disbelief? That one single man dares to hit on you?

All of the LIs being bisexual was over-the-top, this isn't.

Something you are perfectly able to not have to deal with.

Stop claiming you have the moral high ground and I may.

I claim nothing, the facts speak for themselves.

It is pretty obvious what you meant there, and I don't find explanations for how every LI just happened to be a bisexual very convincing. Is Bioware supposed to come up with similar absurd scenarios for all of their future games now?

What, pray tell, exactly prevents them from being bisexual?
Moreover YOU don't have to deal with it for the most part. Anders hits on you once. Rebuked. The end. Fenris never does. Merill doesn't either. Isabela is the one who flaunts it. Why don't you complain about HER.
Oh wait, she's a woman and promiscuous, that makes it okay?

And why should I care if you think it suspect? As I said it is easier to suspend my disbelief when people of both sexes don't just presume Hawke wants to sleep with them.

Again, they don't.

The objection I have is that I don't want Anders near me. But he's forced in because he's part of the story and he has the best access to healing, in fact in some cases the only access to healing.

Make him more optional like Zevran was and people will care less what his sexual orientation is.

This is what privilege is all about--thinking you can have certain types of people not be near you. For some it is blacks, for others it is Jews, for you apparently it is flamboyant homosexuals. You should be forced to have sex with one in my opinion. Only then will you understand that homosexuality is a perfectly normal expression of love (as I have told the parents of my son's friend).

Ehm... I get the sentiment, but forced sex is not a normal expression of love and would only serve to make the problem worse.

My Hawke would have some colorful words, along with Merrill's, for pinching his bum during combat.

DA 2, from portions I played, had alot of dialogue wheel ambiguities where characters reacted in bizarre ways that were not indicated either by icons or the sometimes inaccurate paraphrasing. I have also heard from other players of this. I have nothing against same sex romances between characters and was just trying to play devils advocate for people who might end up being forced into such scenarios where the dialogue wheel fails. Creating a strawman arguement out of misinterpretation and labeling me as stupid won't win your arguements for you and it's not very nice. Posted Image

The only way to flirt (have Hawke flirt at least  some of the helpful dialogue options in my mind were a little too helpful sounding *looks at Anders convo*) / sleep/kiss with a character was to pick the choice with a GIANT HEART GLOWING.

There's no way getting around that .There is no way of getting around that at all. You could only start a romance with the giant glowing heart.

Well, I'm of the opinion that a giant glowing radish would be more helpful.  I mean I send my best friends text messages with hearts in them all of the time so maybe the people playing DA2 thought, "giant glowing heart, i guess that means I'm being extra friendly  Maybe this icon initiates a best friend relationship."  I can see how this could get confusing.

Bioware, here's my request....In the next game, implement giant glowing radishes.  That way no one will be confused because no one will expect a radish icon.  They're the new black after all!  This will in turn require gamers to stop, double take, and then look at the little booklet in order to understand the mystery that is the giant GLOWING radish. Doing this will aid the unwilling in their quest to avoid the "horror" of a same sex romance.  >.<

Though I am glad that you support people of all sexualities, I would suggest you keep away from stating things like you support forced sex. Because... I think you know why. And that's just... No. Even for homophobes.

Also, I sincerely hope that you don't actually believe this.

Cold comfort when they could come up with some equally absurd scenario for everybody being bisexual in future games, just to pander to a very outspoken minority who now is offended when they don't see such content.

The tone icons are explained in the little book that comes with the game.

Absurd in your opinion. Perhaps the majority of players does not think so.
That'd make you the loud-mouthed minority, wouldn't it? Irony.

Anyone who tried that with me would not be a very healthy person.  I'm free to chose my friends, I certainly would not hang out with someone who tried to hit on me the way Anders did.

What I don't understand is the following, and it's something I see very often in real life and something I think has surfaced a few times in this thread. People claim they are not homophobic and yet seem deeply disturbed by the mere mention of homosexuality.

There's just something about this that doesn't quite add up. If you are not really opposed to it, why is it such a big deal to just not click the heart in that conversation with Anders and just move on with the game?

My mother does this... "I'm not homophobic, but I don't see why we have to see it on tv?" "I'm not prejudiced, but isn't that just typical of asians?" "I'm not a racist, but I do love me a good lynching."

Ok, that last one isn't a real quote, but still... ugh. Ugh.
I don't have a problem with bigots, but I do think they should all be loaded onto a spaceship and flown into the sun.

I agree with John Epler.

My only problem is that having played games for a long time, their "mechanics" can be very apparent, and something like this, where a character can quite literally be seen to be a variable so blatantly is really jarring for RP purposes.

I do like the idea that a character is fully formed, definite, and could be projected out from the screen into real life without such nonsense :P

Not just that, but you had similar scenarios in DA:O with Zevran and the brothel in Denarim.

Nothing but the entire scenario is extremely unlikely and seems to have been tacked for all of the characters but Isabella.

I've never said I'd be offended by the lack of such content in the future. Don't treat me as though I've said everything that everyone's said.

Has it ever occurred to you that it's not pandering? That, maybe, the writers and other developers actually think that it's important to include s/s content?
