There should be no gay romances at all, except female on female. Anders' advances made me shudder. Developers really went too far this time.

Wait why would that be less open to interpretation?

Because hearts can be taken as just more friendly rather than sexual. You can't really mistake the sexual symbols for male and female with an X through it as anything else.

A big golden glowing heart....is friendly?

Despite you know that being the function of the olive branch and the blue halo symbol?

The mind...it boggles.

How is that supposed to be more clear than telling someone male/female symbol with a slash? What the heck is that supposed to symbolize? You don't want a male? You don't want a female? And heck what is that supposed to symbolize for people who don't know what it means. It's just a giant blue thing with a slash. What is that?

The poor sod might think the female symbol means someone has breast cancer. What then?

I always feel a little weird replying to mods... so I will keep this brief... aside from this little explanation for why I am keeping my reply brief because of the weirdness... umm.

Sorry. Perfect opportunity.

So, what page do you think this thread will get to before lockdown? 40? 400? Eleventy-billion?
Seriously, this is going on like a broken record now and no good is coming out of it. The same points are being spun for the fifth time and it just proves that a good number of people here are proud and stubborn and aren't planning to see eye-to-eye.

So in fact DA2 is better for you, isn't it? Quit complaining.

The players who wanted this content complained non-stop, besides, complaining makes the world go around.

As has already been stated, your sexuality does not make everyone in the world automatically know it.
Unless you propose going around with a sign that says "STRAIGHT". You could hit Anders with it.

Maybe it is because I am an ugly bastard but I've never had a problem with this in real life. People just don't assume others are gay usually. Some people would be far more offended by this sort of thing than I am, so why isn't the option to preemptively avoid any issues a bad thing?

I have no troubles, unlike some.

Yep, positive reinforcement, that's the ticket.

It's a scenario you don't even have to acknowledge exists for two of the characters.

So what? It's okay if they appeared in DA:O?

Zevran, despite how annoying he was at least had a better explanation. Meanwhile Morrigan and Alistair were both straight which is how things work in the real world. Some people are straight and won't sleep with whomever.

Protip: Don't go into a brothel and expect to not be hit on. It's kinda what they're for.

Maybe the brothels we have over here are a bit different. Typically they presume you are looking for the ladies.

The universal symbol for romance in a soft golden glow is clearly too subtle.
I suggest fully animated silhouettes in the "act", and when you mouse over it, klaxons sound along with a voiced "WARNING. ROMANTIC CONTENT WILL FOLLOW. DESIST IF OFFENDED."

I'm talking about people who don't read the manual, or don't have a manual , like if you rent the game.

Those people who don't understand a heart will not understand a male/female symbol.

They just won't.=]

You would need to have a giant flashing neon sign that says "YOU ARE INITIATING A ROMANCE! DO YOU WISH TO CONTINUE? YES OR NO? YES MEANS YOU WILL INITATE THE ROMANCE? INITIATE MEANS TO START. IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT INITATE MEANS PLEASE REFER TO THE MANUAL YOU NEED IT. BADLY."

Yes it makes no sense from a business stand point.
Absolutely no one who is interested in this content has money and buys videogames.

Yet the number pales in comparison to everybody else who bought the game. I mean honestly how many gays could have bought DA just for said content? They were people who were probably interested in such RPGs to begin with.

Straight romances are just as much "pandering" as gay romances are. They're just to different groups.

Oh noes. Fanservice. Whatever shall we do.

The world just might explode. I think the devs should take out *all* fanservice. Including all the attractive characters that are willing to sleep with the PC.

Boy, do you need to be straightened out! Did you know that for many people, such as both myself and my school-age son, these video games are their only access to sexual interaction? Take away video game ******-romances and I guarantee the bullycide rate will go through the roof! I would venture to say that these video game romances are how 80-85% of the people here first experience sexual pleasure (this is not a made-up number but is taken from my own research). This is why it is vitally important that ALL video games include gay romances, and a few should be gay romance-only so that even homophobes experience them (but they should not be advertised as such).

I introduced my son to video game romances at a very early age because I wanted him to be correctly socialized, but at the time there were few if any good video games that offered climactic homosexual encounters. Therefore I was forced to game with him and say "this characterhad a sex change" and things like that so he would at least get a taste of what gay people are like.

Therefore I explicitly veto the idea that we remove gay and straight romances from video games, as they perform a function that would otherwise be unperformed if you get my drift.

I don't understand. How does making the Li's available to everyone, so all types of fans can be happy become neglecting the male straight gamer?

Each demographic has just as many options for romance as the next. A huge, and awesome step forward in my book.

Don't evade the point, you just basically said DA2 is in fact a lot less offensive to you than DA:O.

Maybe it is because I am an ugly bastard but I've never had a problem with this in real life. People just don't assume others are gay usually. Some people would be far more offended by this sort of thing than I am, so why isn't the option to preemptively avoid any issues a bad thing?

Anders doesn't assume. He takes a risk, because it's in his character to do so. Fenris will never assume anything.
The prostitute? He assumes.. because that's his job.

Yep, positive reinforcement, that's the ticket.

Oy vey.

Zevran, despite how annoying he was at least had a better explanation. Meanwhile Morrigan and Alistair were both straight which is how things work in the real world. Some people are straight and won't sleep with whomever.

Some people are. Some people aren't. 4 people (2 of which you never have to bring up) are. This is how real life works too.

Maybe the brothels we have over here are a bit different. Typically they presume you are looking for the ladies.

Every brothel in Thedas seen so far has been unisex. Deal with it.
