They used actual numbers. You're just making it up.

And I'll pose the same question to you as I posed to somebody else. How many of gay/lesiban players would have bought the game anyway?

And now you're just off on another tangent. Quit moving the goalposts.

I suppose they outnumber the gays by far (which is of course only an assumption).

So I'm expected to believe that making content for gay players is more important than making more content for the larger community as a whole?

Funny, last I checked Bioware was a game developer. They had better stop throwing out these stupid political messages if they don't want to lose business.

Political messages? Wha?

Would you kindly make an argument already and stop whining about what I'm doing? Thanks.

Given that such material is so rare in Western games, I have little doubt that DA:O and DA:2 gained market share from the decision.

DA:O was one of the few computer games I can ever recall having full-length reviews, commentary, and promotion in a variety of gay lifestyle magazines and websites.

I would have. I also would have bought the game if any number of other things weren't in the game. If you're really suggesting the the game be stripped to the bare minimum to be salable, then... alright, I guess? But the majority (*gasp* that word again!) of consumers probably enjoy the multitude of not-entirely-essential aspects of the product.

This has obviously stopped DMA from making Grand Theft Auto games filled with political satire.  Hell damn game you just run around an no-one talks!

A game developer should always include political messages, as long as they are liberal ones.
This makes them seem to be artists, thus increasing sales.

If they only go for the mass market like CoD and WoW, this proves they just hunt the profit. People dislike that.

The whole game is made for you, there is like 30 seconds that might for whatever reason give you an icky feeling, this is not a mountain its a grain of sand for F's sake.

I'd bet the number of gay/lesbian players is as large or small as in our society as a whole, about 10%. And since they are gamers, and since BW has a tradition of including romance options for them, I guess it's a rhetorical question?

But then again, your point isn't no s/s content at all, it's that you want some straight LI's?

What?

Developers should put whatever messages they want in their game. Liberal conservative or otherwise. Their right to choose.

I really don't understand this forum

damn thing is like trying to navigate some trenches, however you think you are near the enemies lines, but you end up stepping on a card game that is being played by a couple of British officers.  Hard to feel comfortable in this combat

Yes. Not to mention that straight players might want to have same-sex content too.

In fact, I think it´s even more important for those. As a straight player, you have straightness in your everyday real life. Why would you want it in a game?

Personally, for example, being a relatively straight man I prefer playing as lesbian / bi women. Just saying.....

No. Since you're just yelling at everyone at this point, this is much more fun.

Political messages? Wha?

Not everyone is quite as "enlightened" as you or David Gaider. It's not a good idea for him to start bashing fans for their views, considering that he's a story writer and not a political commentator.

They designed plenty of content for straight males.  And they also have content for other groups.  The majority of us don't need a game to be tailored just to us.

Once again, I feel it necessary to address the fact that I don't see the way we handle romances changing dramatically because of some people being uncomfortable with them. They are optional content, and it is rather easy to avoid them.

Is it a fair criticism to say that you did not feel that the romances offered were to your taste? Certainly. This is likely true of every game, and will remain true no matter what their orientation is. Some people just don't find anything to like in a particular personality type, and if they can't find someone that they do connect with, of course they'll feel a little shortchanged.

This is a vastly different argument from 'I feel uncomfortable that I was presented with same sex romance', however. The former is a matter of taste. The latter is a matter of believing that same sex romance must somehow be squirreled away, hidden from anyone who doesn't go to seek it. Some people are more forward than others - they initiate. I'm sure everyone here has gotten unwanted advances from one or both sexes before, regardless of their sexual preference.

If it's deemed appropriate for a particular character to attempt to initiate things, then they will intiiate things. This will undoubtedly make some people uncomfortable, and that's unfortunate, but this isn't an area that's likely to change for any reason other than 'it doesn't work mechanically/it doesn't make sense for the character'.

Having a game that recognizes gay people exist isn't "political", any more than a game that recognizes black people exist is.

Equality isn't a left/right plotical issue. People of the left are as pro-equality as people of the left.

The only place this isn't true is where specific religious groups have gained political power, or where parties are pandering to gain religious votes. That in itself is pretty exclusive to the US. In most of the Western world, treating gay people a lesser human beings is condemned by the left and the right equally. The only people who do so are on the poltical fringes, and the mainstream condemns them.

In WoW male Blood Elves are so gay it makes you wonder how they as a race can sustain its population.
