why couldnt i say to anders we dont like your kind around here and kick him form the party after his gay announcements, that would be realistic

or maybe someone else doesnt like gay in my party so he leaves after he found out hawke is gay?

Oh, yes! That is a great idea! Let's have homophobic party members who hate gay people leave/and or insult homosexual people in our video games! That will make Bioware so much more popular!

Actually I agree with Bobrikuh here, as it adds realism.

Of course, there needs to be an option to hit said partymembers across the head if they speak their hatespeech, and to kill them if they do it again, because this, too, adds realism.

You have that kind of opportunities in real life. You just can't power play them like in fantasy games.

So it's not entirely based on reality on the subject of "Homosexuality" BUT only partially... partially being set on a positive note exclusively... Ok Got it!

Anyhow... 'WHERE'S MY SAMMWICH!!" Dammit..

You can be an assh*le without being a homophobe. Shocking, is it?

also how come nobody form outside of your party is gay?

why dont viscount or arishok go around with their boyfriends? or did hawke collect all gays in town?

1. There are gays outside.
2. The Chantry allows homosexuality, but does not appreciate it being made public, on the basis of sexuality being private and supposed to stay so. So, even if they were gay, they wouldn´t tell you. Only your friends would.

1. who in da2 is gay besides your party members?

2. so how come some people in da2 are married?  nobody says this I am Karl and this is my boyfriend John, but some people say they have a wife? shouldnt they keep it private?

Skipping over most of the 40+ pages of replies preceeding. Bravo to David Gaider. Keeping all romances open to everyone was an incredibly fair way to go. It was quite easy to avoid any relationship that bothered you.

And I say this as a hetrosexual male with no intention of romancing Anders on my playthroughs of either gender.

I think there are so many gays in the world that BW could specialize in

buying BW games (which I though don't do anymore because combat and
overal quality is just too bad).

Excuse me! Gay people like you say don't like to be marginalized. This kind of comment is simply discriminatory and tactless. BioWare games are for everyone, not only for the so called open-minded straight people. Also, saying that BioWare specialze in making gay games for gay gamers just show that you lack maturity when it comes to facing the world and its people. I'm not the kind of user who will flame or insult or others, but this was too much. Grow up.<_<

I am not a gay.

I said BW could specialize in making gay games for gay people, if gays would unite and buy those games.

So you did not have any arguments but you felt some sort of need to toss ad hominem - to further make it obvious you don't have any arguments.

I also think that some character should be bi and some straight, like it was in Origins.

Morrigan was straight, Alistair straight... Leliana and Zevran Bi... they can even make only gay characters if they wish.

Just don't make every character bisexual, it's just lazy and non-believable.

And no, it's not an excuse if the men are straight if your character is female or if the women are straight if your character is male. That can only be a some kind of an excuse (still lame though) if there were romances between the party members.

So what you're saying is that it's ok to have "Heterophobic" Anders Character that no one has disaproved that he does indeed react with some hissy fit when rejected PLUS your Hawke looses some point of friendlyness towards rivalry, but yet, you think it wouldn't be a good idea for the PC Hawke to give the same treatment to Anders OR one of the other NPCs?

Sounds like double standard to me.

People of any gender flirt with people of any gender in real life. People get rejected over it. People feel discomort or get hurt because of it.

It happens.

People get also fired because of it.

The way I see it, I dont mind either way. But they at least should randomize it and write it in a way that is believable. In example, not every playthrough should yield you the same romances. Maybe in one play through Isabela is explicitly straight in another she could be lesbian only and another she could be bi-sexual. Its about immersion.
You cant possibly expect someone to believe everyone in an entire planet is willing to swing both ways. Some people have preference's.
Someone in the first page's stated that assuming Merril was straight was prejudice? Why? How is it prejudice? Sexuality is in the body language is it not? You can meet a friend and assume and swear your entire life he is straight, and not find out until he told you or you heard it from someone. If that person has no apparent affinity toward's you in a sexual nature then attempting to surmise their sexual disclosure is pointless because you will never be 100% certain.
I have only ever played as a Male Hawke. In my view Merril is timid and almost romanced early on so she tends to turn to the character when he speaks as well as blush or stumble on her words. This make's it seem as if she is interested in Hawke. The same can be said from the other sexual standpoint. So a player who assumes Merril straight is not being prejudice they are just basing their point of view on their own experience.

As for bioware, they should think about diversity. One thing I loved about origins that DA2 lacks is that the companions and even the characters around the world are more sexually vocal of themselves. In other words flirt with Alistair all you want he is straight threw and threw and will never touch you male hero. Not to mention that character's also got quite angry if you were found two-timing them. While all I got from Isabela was a, "Dont you hurt her but we can still have fun on the side." Kind of aspect.

Erm... what? Elves are clearly NOT looking like teenagers......

In my humble opinion they do. And that's just it, my humble opinion. They have the bodies and faces of 14-16 year olds. This is, however, much more an issue with the elves of DA2 than with the elves in DAO. DA2 elves just reek of lolicon to me.

While I like the idea of all love interests being viable for either gender, which is a good way to avoid the mess we got in Mass Effect 2, it would be interesting if each companion had their own view of falling for the player character.

Like, Isabela is openly bi, but with Merrill it could be interesting to hear more of her thoughts on both falling for a human and perhaps falling for a woman... if she usually identifies as heterosexual.

To quote Aggie from the web comic Penny & Aggie:
"But... what does this mean? Am I gay? Bi? Straight plus Penny?"

Dragon Age II is a good first step on this front for BioWare, and I look forward to seeing them craft even better and more powerful experiences.

I resurrected an old account just to show some love to David Gaide.
It is so good to see a game that treats its audience equally.
The next step will be having female dwarves again and old women that don't all fall in the MILF category. ;)

in my face and down my throat also in the games I play which is a way to escape reality. Don't get me wrong, I respect gays and career women it's just that...

While I go hunting(Work), WHO is going to bear my children, take care of them... and prepare me a sammwich?

Now that's the kind of Hencmen I want in my games!!

Said henchman (henchwoman?) would also be dead in the first three seconds of any combat. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
And if you feel challenged (threatened?) by gays and career-women - you seem to have issues. Notably with your self-esteem.

Marriage is encouraged because it allows to procreate. And, for the Chantry, sex to have children is the ONLY business they encourage. Sex just for fun is private, even in hetero couples.

I actually like the way the romances played out.

The companions orientation/romance dialogue was based on the gender you had chosen as a player. I played a female the first time through and Fenril and Anders did not come off as bisexual at all. Heterosexual yes. Isabella? I knew she swung both ways from some of her comments almost immediately. Merrill? I couldn't tell - she was so innocent and cute I didn't know if she was a romance option at all...so, of course, she was the one I tried to pursue on my first playthrough.

Second one was as male, and that's where I noticed how Anders changed quite a bit and I could tell he was gay. Fenris.....couldn't really tell until later. Isabella and Merrill remained the same, and I think that was a decision made by the writers due to both personalities.

I like the freedom in the romances, so no matter your tastes, there is an option if you want to pursue it.

About the complaints of companions hitting on same-sex players....really? You can't be that insecure, right? Its a game. Get over it. And to go through your entire life without being flirted with (even lightly) by a same sex person that you just met or have known for a bit? Really? Its going to happen unless you live in a cave. Just take it as a compliment and move on. Same thing in the game. They are interested in you. Smile and move on. :)

I totally agree with Bioware and Gaider. There is no reason to cater to the "Straight Male Gamer" when the game has options for everyone. One group, just because they are the majority, does not have any more special rights over the minorities, or deserves something "more". This speaks to a lot of things in life.

Gay hitting me is not annoying because I would be insecure. I just don't like someone wanting to do to me something I don't enjoy.

I bet if Ogrehn would try to hit gay women the some of the said women would not appreciate it and some of those women would possibly feel disgust big time, possibly to a point of wanting to do physical violence to Oghren.

Some men and women would feel it was righteous if Oghren got verbal or physical assaults by gay women she tried to hit.

Hypocrit much? Double standard more? Anyone? Oh, everyone lol.

Wish I could see that too. Merrill is awesome already, but as loli she would be even more awesome:wub:

But sadly, I really don´t. Besides, her bosom is way too big to qualify as loli, objectively speaking.

Yes! And maybe an LI for the ladies who isn't a whiny brat or an alley-cat. I'd like to see a mature, complex LI for once. My DAO mage was pretty miffed when she couldn't romance Loghain. The whole former enemy thing would have been awesome.
Valen Shadowbreath from HotU is still unsurpassed, in my opinion. The only LI I've ever liked.

On this matter, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't. When Bioware limits romance options to certain characters/genders, people whine they can't romance their favorite one (Tali anyone?). When Bioware makes every character romanceable, people complain they don't want all that gayness/lesbianism around them. What gives? And to people up in arms at the thought that a homosexual may make a pass at them in a video game, I'd suggest a little introspection about why it bothers them. Frankly, it says more about their insecurities than about Bioware's intent.

perhaps people dont need to have every character romancable and for those that do perhaps it says more about thier insecurities than anything else..
Perhaps people are just tired of having homosexuality in everything they do from watching films/tv to listening to the radio or reading a magazine and now implemented in gaming.
Perhaps they just want to have fun..
I personally dont want a man making a pass at my character in game it holds no intrest for me and when Ive openly flirted with only the females it makes the man look as if he cant recognize what I want in a releationship and openly makes a fool of himself.

One thing I never liked about the gay straight arguments is that everyone assumes a person is insecure because they do not like a sexual orientation. We all must remember that this backwards thinking and programming has been happening since the beginning of time. Old habits die hard and all that.

Personally I would be rather uncomfortable with a gay male hitting on me, why? Simple, I am not gay. This does not mean I am simply a hate parasite who is ignorant and prejudice it simply means it is an uncomfortable situation for me and I would much rather do without.

So this nonsense of people being criticized for not wanting to be flirted at by a gay guy or girl is just ignorance at its best.
