Why should she be bi because your Wardens are nice to her?  I'm nice to most people, but I don't expect their sexuality to change because of that

Yea but you are real and the Warden is in a game. I don´t want to have disappointments in a game, just as I don´t want to have a graphic simulation of having to use the toilet during my travels in DAO.

Both are very real things, and both have no place in a game.

I play an RPG to be awesome and to have everyone bow to my will. These sh!tty b!ches some call companions are not supposed to disagree with me.

And some players have expressed a desire to NOT have men hit on them in game... you don't want disappointments, or toilets. How are those two things any different? They're both about what the player wants.

I can't see that the homophobes have a single argument of substance.

P.S. and a warning to EA who have such talent for PR-fumbles: If you think the mass of Bioware fans crowd, (or even gamers in general) is anything at all like the religious right, you're going to have another disaster blowing up straight in your face.

100% Agreed.

Just keep yelling "ur homophobic if ur not want gay sex". Morons will hear you.

Not wanting to do gay sex? Fine.

Forbidding others to do it? Quite retarded, as it is not your business what they do.

"No gays" button does not forbid you to not do it. If you want to do it, then you just don't press the button.

So they got paid like slaves do.

And to get into to the position of power you had to be appealing butt sex provider for someone having status.

You have butt -> your butt is appealing -> you get to join to insiders.

Great system, not. And people saw through it and with the help of Plato destroyed it.

Ahem, excuse me....

BWAHAHAHAHA!

Plato? You actually get Plato into this? A Greek Philosopher who had the opinion that true love can only happen between men? That women were just good for bearing children, and are incapable of true thought and emotions? (just read his work about the ideal state, it's all in there...)

You just shot yourself in the foot big time, dude.

As for Tigrion, he's absolutely right. I used to study Ancient History at university, you know. Erotic stuff between an Eromenos (that's the young guy) and his  Erastes (that's the influential older guy) only happened if the eromenos consented. If the Erastes took advantage of the Eromenos, he had to bear the brunt of the boy's father. There were even slaves (paedagoges) whos job it was to watch over the Eromenos so this wouldn't happen.

With all due respect, you're talking nonsense.

Certainly went that way. There is no doubts of that. You know it first of all because you have studied Ancient History at university, I hear.

Edit: Especially when she can't even understand how full of parody Ideal State is.

Do you know what folks. After seeing the way the pro-alternative movement has responded, within this thread, I am taking an indefinite hiatus from buying BioWare games. Since this mess has turned into a massive political debate, I would rather walk away than put up with this garbage.

When it comes down to it......anyone who wants a "No homosexual" option is straight up homophobic. End of question.

I completely understand now. "Dragon Age II" is not ment to be played by hetrosexuals. Its meant to be played by hetrosexuals who are not really hetrosexuals.

I can understand why people might not want characters to bend to their every whim, including that of sexual attractiveness. However, can you imagine how much rage there would be here if an attractive female LI was wholly lesbian?

I was wondering how long that would take. Suprisingly long, maybe the game ban thing had people not expressing it.

Please do it BW. I will buy the game even if the combat would be even worse than in DA2.

Wait - parody? No. The Ancients kept different forms of literature strictly apart. And everything my professor taught me, and everything I read is nonsense, of course. Yes, I see that now.

Just ... you know, next time I meet the Doctor, I'll just ask him to pop by your house, take you aboard the Tardis and take you to ancient Greece so you can see for yourself. I'll even ask him to leave Captain Jack somewhere else, because you don't like to be hit on by men.

Feels to me that in terms of character personality, sexual preference has little impact on the characters where this is a concern. Isabela is bi, so she's not a problem. Anders seems to be bi, too, even if he doesn't say so to a female LI.

But Fenris and Merril ... Fenris doesn't remember anything before getting his markings, so I don't think he's really had that much time to ponder whether he's into guys or girls. And then Hawke comes along ... and it works out fine whether or not Hawke is a guy or a girl.

Fits with Merril as well, I think, since she doesn't seem all that experienced either, and is pretty shy as a person in general.

Sexual preference doesn't have to be a core attribute of a person's personality. Changing it doesn't have to change the personality of a character as a whole. It depends entirely on the character in question, and whether or not this works. It works with Merril and Fenris, imo.

Would it work in future games? Maybe. Depends on what type of characters they're gonna have. I really like the idea, since it gives people a chance to play the game whatever way they want to. And as long as it works fine ... I definitely think it's a good idea.

I can see it now...

"Liliana's New Song"

"Do it now,
You and me baby ain't nothing but mammals,
So let's do it like they do on the discover channel,
Do it again now,
You and me baby ain't nothing but mammals,
So let's do it like they do on the discover channel,
Getting horny now"

*Dragon Age characters start dancing in erotic fashion*

This topic is too damn serious for a game.

So you say switching sexual orientation of NPCs from gay to hetero does not change anything and it works very well in DA2. Do you understand that it is effectively the same as "no gays" button? So why so much hate for the said button?

Just sayin'.

I am very sorry but I did not read what you wrote about Ancient Greece because I am not interested to discuss it with you. At least not in BW forum. In some other place I could do it, maybe. Or I could do it in BW forums if I would want to. However I am not interested of real world discussions.

A perfectly valid attitude, but then please do not start with real life topics in the future. After all, it was not ME who started with Greece, i just responded to other posts.

The core problem here is that I expect a certain amount of consistency in characters. Having a character be bi, gay or straight is fine. But I think that a character shouldn't change who they are based on the protagonist. If I wanted a army of sycophants who mindlessly do everything I want them to do, I may as well just be playing with a party of clones. Or just make it like Icewind Dale and you just create the whole party yourself.

It also goes towards realism and immersion. You might see a guy/ girl on the street you find attractive, they don't change their preference on the spot to suit you. When you make parts of a characters personality variable, you lose part of the realism, immersion and sense of character.

Imagine a Baldur's Gate where if you played a wizard with a high inhtelligence, Minsc suddenly had a high intelligence too. Sure, Minsc can now have in depth conversations with you about string theory, but he has lost part of his original charm. A better route is to simply introduce a new character that has a high intelligence to start, and leave the original Minsc personality intact. You can't be everything to everyone, why should characters?

I think of course this can be answered by your own comments that you want everyone to bow down and agree to you. I however, find the mixture of traits add depth and intrigue. By altering personalities to be what I want, they lose a portion of their uniqueness.

This is true enough.

I would actually prefer if the romance options in DA2 were REALLY bi instead of changing, but oh well....

Making them open for everyone is a start. the details can be worked out later.

And I wasn´t suggesting it would. It was more a general statement on whether or not yelling "homophobe!" is appropriate.
