Right, I'll ask again then. Why should people react exactly the same way to female homosexuals as they do to male homosexuals?

If you don't like Anders hitting on you, TURN HIM DOWN. Like you know... you would in real life if someone you didn't have any interest in started hitting on you.
But to suggest that, "hey its okay for this group, but not okay for that group" is hypocritcal.

Yes they are both homosexual but their difference is extremely important. Men and women are not at all equal in terms of how we relate to each.
""hey its okay for this group, but not okay for that group" is hypocritcal." That's fine, but that doesn't invalidate people's reactions to Anders. You're basically telling people it is wrong to feel a certain way. What gives you the right to dictate people's values?

Because we're real people too and don't merely exist to satisfy straight male fantasies, perhaps? It should be that people react the same to lesbians as they do to gay males, bisexuals, and heterosexuals. Sadly, that's not true.

No. Not at all. Just like it's not wrong for me to be offended if some random dude came up and hit on me.
That's not the issue. The issue is the way people are reacting to this.
Instead of saying "blah blah blah Bioware caters to the non straight gamer" what they should do instead... take that dislike of being hit on, and remember. IT'S ONLY A FREAKING GAME. And it's telling a story. And in that story, you have the choice of turning Anders down. If you can look past it, and be friends with that fine. If it feels like you want your character to now be hostile to him, do it. But don't come onto these forums and whine because a bunch of polygons shaped like a male told you that you looked rugged.
Anders hit on me. I turned him down. Guess what? He's now my Mage's best friend despite that. It's called tolerance, kid.

Still take it as fun and cencentrate on Isabela because she is pretty hot for a fictional woman and sure got my heart rate a bit up in the "love making" scene ;o).
My only addition to this whole debate is that a game like this shouldnt get political with every minority group covered, just keep it simple and focus on the plots... After all, isnt the D&D gaming sessions with the pals what we fondly remember when we play games like this?

Absolutely. At least then we could play characters the way we wished without it being a political statement. >.>

Dunno about that. In D&D my Half Orc was too busy slaughtering goblin children to worry about the politics of a city

That's largely my problem with this. The game itself and Bioware's PR on this issue has made it feel like this was a deliberate political act. I don't really want to have modern progressive politics shoved down my throat when I'm playing a fantasy rpg. I have reddit for that.

When I say, tolerance, I mean for everyone. That also means Bioware should be able to put a game out without some homophobic adolescent raging that there's a gay guy in the game. It's called respecting your fellow human being. YOU might be straight. Fine. Go romance Isabela or Merrill. If none of the LIs interest you, don't get an LI. If a toolset is released, make your own. But how dare you try and say how Bioware should cut down the options for people with different tastes then your own.
This wasn't a political act until some little weasel came in whining that a character hit on him that he didn't have any interest in.

I agree that no decision to include features in a game should be based on politics. That's just silly. However, due to the nature of the content, in this case, I don't think it could be avoided. They could have slipped it into the game without so much as a word about it but, because people are complaining about it, it's become political. I look forward to the day when a fuss will not be made over this. >.>

Giving minorities options is not political, it's just fair.
What people like to call "minority groups" is just the reality of their life for other people, nothing political.
So if I play a game, I don't think "Oh, ok, they wanted to keep politics out of this, so I as a minority am left out", I just think "Hey, I can't do what I want in this game. That sucks."
That said, I don't know if Bioware had political reasons for their decisions (and neither do you), but a lot of people out there can now enjoy the game even more. I would think that's a good thing.

Western societies are now tolerant of *certain* aspects of sexuality (I'm not going to go into a debate about the difference between orientation and fetish), namely homosexuality in general. As this moves more towards the norm (it's not all the way there yet obviously), it will begin to be more prevalent in our cultural mediums. This is an example of that. Soon Hollywood will risk an openly gay leading man. Cartoon characters will be openly gay. That's the whole point of something being normal - it's supposed to be a part of everyday life.
Either that or Bioware were aiming for a cheap grab at controversy to boost awareness of the game.

I know, the fact that I'm a lesbian seriously limits my humour. I do what I can though.
But, no, you are not alone. Many people who are accustomed to seeing only the heteronormative are shocked by being exposed to 'the gay'. This I can understand, I can even sympathise with it to a degree. It's not your fault that society has evolved the way it has, after all. But perpetuating intolerance is another matter.
Let me put it this way, I'm exposed to straight imagery and media every single day. I'm, perhaps, a little fed up with being left on the outside and made to feel abnormal. I would like to find entertainment that caters to my needs. That said, I can still find enjoyment in a game that only depicts heterosexual romance or none at all. If the story's good, it doesn't bother me too much. It doesn't mean I should be excluded though.
There's still a huge plethora of games out there that aren't 'gayed up' so I think you're safe for now.

If you get hit on, say no. But just because the option is there to cater to someone else, don't be an idiot and rage about it.
