Oh, in Finland homosexuals can marry, but not in a church. They do it in one state department. Those who do not belong to church do it in the same department. Both groups then get benefits of marriage like they would had been married by church.
In 5 of our states and in our capital (Washington D.C.), any two people who have reached the age of majority (18) can marry and they all have the same rights. Some churches here also allow homosexual marriages, but of course it depends on which sect of which religion they practice. Everyone has the right to marry through the state instead of through religious ceremony, of course. If I were to marry, I would not choose a religious ceremony because I am an atheist.
Not long time ago one magazine hired a new chief journalist, who happened to be homosexual, and then fired her because of that (never though admitted homosexuality was the reason). She sued and won and got tons of money.
Some of our states still don't protect sexual orientation, but many do and I believe that the federal government does too.
Adaptation etc. is a little bit complicated thing since it affects third party, so to say. A child. A child can be bullied a lot by other kids if he have homosexual parents. However kids can be bullied by other kids for whatever reason or no reason at all, so it hardly counts.
The argument often put forth here is that a child needs a mom and a dad and that anything else is subpar and will result in the child having issues later in life. Of course, we let single parents adopt. We also let unmarried people, abusive people, drug addicts, and just about anyone else have children. Kids will pick on each other for something or other even when they all have more "traditional" parents, so you're right that it doesn't matter. Personally, I'd rather let a loving gay couple adopt a child than have them grow up with no parents at all in a foster care program or an orphanage.
Sorry to say this, and even more so because this is no sarcasm, but your country sucks.
Nah, this country doesn't suck. We've got some work to do on the equality and human rights front, we have some serious gun control problems, and we need to stop electing war-mongers to lead us, but overall we're not so bad. Most of us are actually pretty decent, peaceful people! Promise!
