Why doesnt any of the vanguard builds use assail? it gives extra damage and lengthens ur arc horizontally which makes sns or 2h more useful and provides more damage against surround foes and while using talents. and how does might lose its usefullness after certain levels? It is stacking damage and critical damage how is that useless later? if the goal of builds are based on damage and what not, then how is not using something that adds dam not useful? Correct me if Im wrong im just wondering.

I didn't know Assail increased your arc, I thought it just gave you more physical force so you could knock back enemies. I might be wrong but thats how I understood it.

I believe the upgrade increases the size of your arc, while also causing you to do more damage with it. Would be more useful for SnS than 2H due to their smaller arc, but it's nothing special either way.

Anyways, I agree that Assail is worth using, but later on and mainly because there's nothing better to do with the points. It only increases your damage by 10%, and knocking enemies around is not as important as killing them, so other skills with larger damage/DPS increases come first (Cleave, Barrage, 2H active talents, strong passives like Fervor, etc.). I still found myself picking up Assail in Act 3 though, once again not because it's amazing, but just because I had more ability points than I knew what to do with.

What's the case for Might losing its usefulness? I don't remember seeing that anywhere.

I use it and knocking around enemies is not why i use it thats just a bonus. Using it for the damage increase and arc increasement but yes i agree it shud be delayed when being picked, however i notice that noone ever uses it nor ever says bring it later

Well, you've found at least one person who does say "bring it later."

I got it and love it specially Assail+Cleave+Assault when they are packed together lets me kill anything non elite Im targeting while damaging anything next to it pretty badly (Hard Mode)

Though I guess it would be kind of redundant for 2H since they already have a wide arc of attack and can knockback

All the ones i've seen your getting enough points for vanguard and then going for reaver and templar/berserker. Generally assail is picked up but the specialty trees are so much shinier they take precedence and so its not generally mentioned as its a leftover points thing.

The ability can be helpful to a SnS warrior but I found it more useful with my 2H warrior. Getting the Besiege upgrade for it makes it much better. Stacking that ability with Cleave/Claymore really makes a difference in the damage output plus being able to kill multiple enemies at the same time can come in handy when dealing with large groups. It looses its full effectiveness when dealing with single targets or during some boss fights. I normally use it against big mobs or while Cleave is on cooldown just to maintain damage output on a tougher enemy.

The knockback is obnoxious and counter-productive, is the short of why I don't get it, or tell others to.

I had it on my last play as a s&s, but I found it it wasn't very useful. As already said, the knockback on every hit is not too useful, rather annoying. Usually you end up throwing one opponent far away from the rest before it dies.
It's totally another matter if you have an elemental weapon though.

Two handers have giants reach. They dont need assail at all,not even upgraded because they get it for "free"(without using stamina for it)
