When have we ever seen a "normal" romance in a game? What is "normal", for that matter?
The exotic, sexy witch from the swamps, who is a shapeshifting apostate? The innocent-looking bard who's really a tough spy with a dark past, and who also has crazy dreams about the Maker? The promiscuous assassin who'll sleep with everything that moves? The troubled bastard child of a king who's joined some Order dedicated to fighting Evil?
The elven druid/fighter who lost her husband to torturous experiments, and is old enough to be your mother? The wicked drow priestess? The religious fighter noble with a depressing past that catches up with him and has to be dealt with? The Jedi with a secret bond to a Dark Lord?
Those were all more or less interesting romances, depending on taste. Dating the average farm girl with no particularly interesting past or attributes that sets her apart wouldn't be all that fun in a game.
I wish there was a normal woman to romance.

"Normal"? No.
Well I can relate her to one person I knew closely, a woman that was, too, found of her work and did't know much about relationship. I feel comfy with Aveline in my party because I can relate her so someone in real life. Can't do that with Merrill and Isabella.
I think we all can agree that Anders is't normal woman.Well, when I romanced Anders
I hope.

Isabela's premise is she is basically like Morrigan as a romance goes. They think they can just sleep with whoever and not get attached but if you keep pushing the relationship they end up caring more than they wanted to. A real relationship? No but it is a game and she is easy to sleep. Just Isabela didn't put out as fast as Morrigan.
Think of it like this compared to Origins.
Merrill and Leliana were the good girls with a dark side. Just one was a paid thief/killer and the other using blood magic for what she thought was a good cause. Both are nice at heart and mean well. Just it costs them greatly.
Morrigan and Isabela are the bad girls with a secret. One has a plan which will probably come to flourish in DA3. The other was keeping secrets knowing the destruction it was leading to. Both are more informed than you are. Both keeping secrets. Both thinking they can have sex without a price to themselves.
All relationship wise.

LOL! It was in reference to 'marriage' never being mentioned.

Hm, seems missed it. I did't really talked with her after "office giggle" scene much.Aveline talks about it.
Sad she is not romancible, then.
They don't show any actual scenes of them getting married, but when you catch up with Aveline at the beginning of act 3, one of the options to discuss with her is about her 3 week honeymoon in Orlais. If you do Aveline's Favor and Fault quest in act 3, they refer to each other as husband and wife.

I wish anyone would say "marriage" in this game at least once, and twas be not Hawke's mother. Maybe then I would't be so alienated by the way romances evaluate in Dragon Age world.
Well, when I romanced Anders and ran off as fugitives with him, during the final battle he declared that our children and our children's children would be free to love each other without a templar tearing them apart. That's about as close to a proposal I've seen. My Warden proposed marriage to Alistair in DAO, but she totally sprung it on him during the Council - lol.
Oh hell, if you bring up DAO you can ask Zevran if he just proposed (which he kind of did and was hopeful that the warden would take it that way).
In DA2, I think it's obvious that you have a commitment from your LI. Fenris makes it clear that the worst thing in the world would be a future without Hawke. And yes, Anders talk before the final battle does make it sound like he's thinking long term as well. I would imagine the females are the same.

Not so much, actually. Isabela's pretty noncommittal, she just wants reassurance that she won't lose Hawke. Still, it fits perfectly with her character, as even her love confession is fairly noncommittal.
Merrill is actually similar... there's only a reaffirmation of love, and the assurance they'll get through it.

Bioware will release a DLC in which you'll find Sebastian’s long lost sister who doesn't dabble in blood magic, doesn't even know what the fade is and never set foot on a ship in her life. She'll be fully romanceable by a male PC, but they'll be a catch...
Like her brother, she will only accept a chaste relationship with your character.

I'm pretty sure that for all romances in any Dragon Age that Normal just doesn't apply...except maybe to Alistair, but even as sweet as he is there are human flaws.
As far as DA2, I just completed an Isabela romance w/ my male Hawke and it was actually really cool. Why not try giving different choices/storylines a chance and see how it is?

As someone pointed out earlier, would a normal person want Hawke? Most mothers would not approve. As Aveline says at one point, wherever Hawke goes, Hawke is like the eye of a hurricane.

You can actully by taking Merrill on enough quests with blood magic gone wrong, and a bit of rivalry, she'll come to see that what she did was wrong. Will even openly admit to it, course for gameplays sake she still uses blood magic, but I think in any game based off of that she'll lose the ability to use it, or should. Then again you can give Anders blood magic, yet in game he's way against it and such.
Thats what I did at least. So I liked Merrill, hate the pirate hooker though, well maybe not hate...shes just not my cup of tea.
In DA2 Anders can't learn blood magic. In DA Awakenings sure he can. But DA2 it's not possible unfortunately which I find weird.
Anyhow I like both Merrill and Isabela equally. Isabela is a complex character and so is Merrill. You just need to look past the surface and also play the romance long enough to find out.

I know a good character is like a real person, full of flaws, baggage and emotion.
Am I asking too much by wanting someone bland and normal? What do you think? Did you like Isabella and Merrill?
My similar thought with the male romance options, too. The only normal one was the dwarf, and he wasn't romancable! In all my years playing RPGs, this was the first time ever I was hot for the dwarf!
This. Even with the blaring chest hair and slab-of-meat head, I found myself thinking about the practical implications of a Varric romance. That said, I was in the middle of being manipulated by a CERTAIN magical terrorist with a dissappointing lack of earring.
