A convenient excuse to not allow the player to have a proper conversation with Bethany/Carver, that's best saved for the quest that never triggers for me... Doubt it will be of much importance to us, just some generic Warden business, all of the really cool things can not happen (Warden Commander can be dead, Architect can be dead). Wouldn't be the first retcon in the series I guess, if it turned out to be something like that, but I'd like to think it won't.

Plus an excuse for them not to stick around. Got to wonder why they were put there in the first place, I guess..

The warden commander cannot die, as there is no choice to kill yourself in Awakening. The warden/Hero of Ferelden, however, can die.

There is certain dialogue in Awakening if you married Anora that heavily implies that you, the Warden, have either already left the Wardens and are just returning for one last fight; or plan on doing so.

And that means what exactly? Warden Commander is a title given to the player in Awakening, even if your character "left" the Wardens, he is still given the title and he can still go missing.

A king (albeit consort) as Commander? Seems a bit contradictory to me; considering the 'no politics' constitution of the Wardens.

Who knows? Maybe they just found out that one of the 7 old gods Razikale is missing during their Deep Roads expedition. I believe Razikale is Flemeth :)

Eh, talk about pedantic.. I considered writing it differently but I didn't think anyone would actually... Nevermind.

They're trying to figure out how the Architect  is apparently immortal.    Nathaniel, I killed the guy myself.  You were there.

Well the name of the quest regarding the Grey Warden letters is called Dark Epiphany, so I imagine something terribly blight-y

Personally i figured it was linked with a future DLC

I think it's the hunt for the Warden Commander, that's the only thing that fits with all the possible outcomes with the Architect. There also may be something that the Champion stumbled upon in the Deep Roads in Act 1 that's important to the Wardens. (What they thought was a Thaig was actually the home of an Old God from an earlier Blight).

On second thought, could it be something to do with the harvesters? Not technically the wardens' place to fight them but if there are a load of crazy flesh-golems killing your members in the deep roads you can't just ignore them. It's also something set in canon (regardless of what the warden does or even if they're still alive or not, the harvesters still exist), unlike alot of the other possibilities, making it alot easier to write.

Damn, having a DLC/Expansion following up on this would be awesome. It could fill in one of the missing years post-year 4. It probably won't happen, but I would be stoked for this.

Big Warden party in Starkhaven, they were already running late.

On a serious note I rather suspect it's something we don't really know anything about yet. I wouldn't be surprised if we find out the state of the Wardens for the past however many years in DLC or the next game. Something Darkspawn related would make sense as I would imagine the writers want some way to bring them back into the plot without the need for another Blight (unless they are changing the rules a bit in regards to Blights). Plus it must be something that isn't connected to governments and politics or their whole spiel about not getting involved in the Qunari crisis would be a bit daft.

A warden commander has gone missing, and they are following up on a lead.

If you imported your Warden to Awakening then I don't think it fits, mainly because of the King Alistair cameo in Act 3. It implies that the Warden Commander is still around by that time.

So, most likely something else. Probably the Architect - or if you killed him, his subordinates.

i think it may have something to do with the idol from the primeval thaig. cassandra asks varric something along the lines of "she had to have known what you had taken" (or something like that). i think it's too coincidental that you find nathaniel down there investigating as well... but maybe i'm wrong. i just think that pure lyrium would be of interest to everyone in thedas be it for power~mages, monetary gain~dwarves and humans, addiction~templars, or simple mystery surrounding why the idol and lyrium were found in such depth and not included in the shaperate's memories~wardens. plus, it seemed as if the idol had been tainted considering the way it made everyone lose their friggin minds and hear things. it's just a theory tho :)

I don't know, and I can't say I care.

There's about a 50/50 chance that we'll find out in a game, comic book, novel, net-show, or whatever. But judging how many loose ends from DA:O and its DLC there's no way of telling if we'll ever find out because it's not the story that BioWare wants to tell.

I'm not being overly rude either. It's just like the ME2 dark energy tease except you can read about what dark energy is and does and come up with some small and probably wrong guesses. We're just not given enough information to really let speculation run wild.

Same here. We know the Wardens have pressing concerns in Orlais. So? That's not enough for a tease. It may pay off in the future and we can all go, "Oh, that's what that guy meant." But it's not enough information for us to all just have these crazy theories about it.

It's likely Darkspawn related, because they're Wardens.

I would say it has something to do with the darkspawn and a certain missing Grey Warden commander, but looking at BioWares track record it's highly doubtful we will get a 100% answer to this, period :<

Near the end of the second act where the Qunari are invading, you come in contact with the Grey Wardens. Instead of helping you, they leave since they have "more pressing matters to intend to". What do you think these "pressing matters" are?

"Apologies, friend, but we have a much more interesting story to attend to in Dragon Age 3!"

(That's just how I interpreted their response, anyway. Something in Orlais, I guess? French darkspawn?)

It could be a lot of things, it could involve the Archtitect and his disciples, maybe the Hero of Ferelden/Warden from the first game, something in Orlais, so many things...

They sounded serious about it though and said some other lines that were a bit creepy so I can imagine it will be put into a DLC or sequel.

Probably has something to do with those other architecht type darkspawn.

There have been other blights than the one in ferelden after all so naturally for each corrupted old god there could possibly exist be another darkspawn of same type as the architecht and possibly not as friendly.

Obviously they left the candles on in their keep and just realized it and then had to rush all the way to Fereldan to turn them off. It's either that or the schleets have taken over their keep.

Just joking, these are the pressing matters:

Warden: "Apologies friend. We have pressing matters to attend to...Maker watch over you."
10 minutes later in The Blooming Rose.
Warden: "Oh...lower...lower! No. The feather...use the feather!"
W*ore: "Shouldn't you be out there, fighting against the Qunari?"
Warden: "Why? This is a more pressing matter!"
