This is a tutorial on editing game saves for Dragon Age 2 (PC/360*)

A. Character Model Swapping
B. Weapon/Armor Model Swapping
C. Weapon/Armor Effect Editing
D. Adding Abilities
E. Re-Unlocking Party Members
F. Friendship/Rivalry
G. 360 ONLY: FirstBlight (by CyberSam)
H. BUGFIXES: Damage Resistance/Attack Speed
I. BUGFIXES: Empty Storage Chest from Post-Campaign
J. Notes

------------------------------------------------
Requirements:
-GFFeditor
-ID Lists (All IDs in DA2.txt; Models.txt; Faces.txt; Weapons [INCOMPLETE].txt; Effects.txt) Compressed into .rar here (Mirror 1)
-If you don't have WinRAR then get it here
-Xbox 360 ONLY: This contains everything you need to get the saves working (Mirror 1)
-Xbox 360 ONLY: USB (Make sure the Xbox 360 has formatted it) or Xbox 360 Transfer Cable

0. How to get Xbox 360 Saves onto and working in GFFeditor or FirstBlight (SKIP IF ON PC)

A. Getting Started

I. Open Horizon (included in .rar)

II. Now it will auto load your device

III. Games > Dragon Age 2 >  then drag your save out, it looks like 0x5d2a6423_1_u!0 on the desktop

B. FirstBlight

I. Just open FirstBlight and then open your save, very simple

II. Once done editing make sure you save and then open your save in Horizon (drag into middle of program)

III. Now hit 'Save, Rehash, and Resign' and when that is done, just drag back into the Device Explorer in Horizon

C. GFFeditor

I. Open your save in wxPIRS and extract 'Savegame.das and 'Savegame.das.x'

II. Now open GFFeditor and open your save and edit until you are done

III. Open Dragon Age Checksum Fix and then first open 'Savegame.das' and then 'Savegame.das.x'

IV. Now open your save in Horizion and go to the 'Contents' tab and then click on 'Saves'

V. Right-Click on 'Savegame.das' and hit replace and replace it with the modified one and do same for 'Savegame.das.x'

III. Now hit 'Save, Rehash, and Resign' and when that is done, just drag back into the Device Explorer in Horizon

1. Open your savegame.das in GFFeditor

A. Character Model Swapping

I. First Select your character (Hawke: 'Savegame_PlayerChar' > 'Savegame_PlayerChar_Char' > 'Savegame_Appearance'; Party Characters: 'Savegame_Partylist' > 'Savegame_PartyPoolMembers' > Then choose the character > 'Savegame_Appearance'

II. Then open 'Models.txt' and put the ID into the boxes for 'Savegame_Appearance_Type' and 'Savegame_Appearance_Original_Type'

III. Now make sure the SEX (OPTIONAL FOR CREATURES) is correct for the model you are swapping for so go to 'Savegame_Appearance_Gender' and edit it correctly (1 = MALE; 2 = FEMALE)

IV. Now make sure the RACE (OPTIONAL FOR CREATURES) is correct so minimize 'Savegame_Appearance' and a little below that should be 'Savegame_Creature_Race' and edit it correctly (1 = DWARF; 2 = ELF; 3 = HUMAN)

V. This part is optional and is about the FACE. Open 'Faces.txt' and choose the face you want to use (em_orsino = ELF MALE _ First Enchanter Orsino; hf_mother = HUMAN FEMALE _ Leandra) and you need to edit 'Savegame_Appearance_Morph_Name' which is in 'Savegame_Appearance'

B. Weapon/Armor Model Swapping

I. If you want to edit items equipped then for HAWKE go to 'Savegame_Player_Char' > ‘Savegame_PlayerChar_Char' > 'Savegame_Equipment_Items' then select the item

For items equipped to Party Member go to 'Savegame_PartyPoolMembers' > Then choose the character > 'Savegame_Equipment_Items' then select the item

For all items in your inventory go to ‘Savegame_PartyPoolMembers' > 'Savegame_Backpack' then select the item

II. Open either 'All IDs in DA2.txt' and try to find the ID for the item you are looking for or go to 'Weapon IDs [INCOMPLETE].txt and then select the ID out of the ones that have been verified and replace it with the value in 'TEMPLATERESREF'

C. Weapon/Armor Effect Editing

I. If you want to edit items equpped then for HAWKE go to 'Savegame_Player_Char' > ‘Savegame_PlayerChar_Char’ > 'Savegame_Equipment_Items' then select the item

II. Go to the item then go to 'Item_Properties' and now open 'Effects.txt'

III. Now first make sure what you are swapping out by searching for the ID in the list and then search for a replacement and swap it out and continue to do so until you are done

IV. Each effect will have a number that tells of how powerful it will be. You need to go 'Item_Property_Powers" and this part can be a bit tricky. (1082130432 = 4x; 1097859072 = 15) For Xbox 360 players you can use FirstBlight

D. Adding Abilities

I. For Hawke: 'Savegame_Player_Char’ > 'Savegame_Playerchar_Char' > 'Savegame_Creature_Stats' > 'Savegame_Abilitylist'

For Party Members: 'Savegame_Partylist’ > 'Savegame_PartyPoolMembers' > choose character > 'Savegame_Creature_Stats' > 'Savegame_Abilitylist'

II. Now visit any of these links: Warrior Talents; Rogue Talents; Mage Talents; Companion Talents; DLC Companion Talents and then right click on any talent in 'Savegame_Abilitylist' and hit "COPY" then right click again and hit "PASTE"

III. Now edit the newly pasted ability and swap the ID out with an ID for a talent tree you want to add

IV. Now "PASTE" a few more lines into the Ability List and add talents and trees until you are done.

E. Re-Unlocking Party Members

I. This is to re-unlock any party member who has become inaccessible so first go to 'Savegame _Partylist' > 'Savegame_PartyPoolPembers' > choose character > 'Savegame_PartyMembers'

II. Now if the character is locked it will be show a “3” now you need to change it. (1 = Party Member is selected in game; 2 = Selectable via party screen; 3 = Locked out of Party Screen)

III. Now save it and that character is usable once again.

F. Friendship/Rivalry

I. This is to change how much a party member is to liking or hating you; first go to 'Savegame_PartyList' > 'Savegame_Approval_List' > choose character (refer to 'Savegame_PartyPoolMembers' for help) > 'Savegame_Party_Approval_Level'

II. Now just change the value for that. 100 = 100% Friendship; 0 = Neutral; -100 = 100% = Rivalry

G. 360 ONLY: FirstBlight

I. Open your save in FirstBlight (not Savegame.das but the whole save) and just edit away.

II. Once you are done use Horizon and rehash and resign it and it should work.

III. Bonus: Clips of FirstBlight |1| |2| |3|

H. BUGFIXES: Damage Resistance/Attack Speed

I. If you are on the 360 you can just use FirstBlight and edit the value, for PC you can do 'Savegame_Player_Char' > 'Savegame_PlayerChar_Char' > 'Savegame_StatList'

II. For Damage Resistance scroll down until you see the third number a 32, it should look like this, my damage resistance is 25

For Attack Speed scroll down until you see the third number a 42, it should look like this, my attack speed is 85

III. So just edit them to the correct number and you are done

I. BUGFIXES: Empty Storage Chest from Post-Campaign

I. This is caused by both storage chests using a different container and while this isn't a direct fix it will let you get your items back. Go to 'Savegame_Campaign'

II. Now you should see 'Campaign_CIF_Entry_Area_List' and 'Campaign_CIF_Entry_Area' and now change both of them from "dae421ar_player_home_nt" to "dae221ar_player_home_nt"

III. Load your save after doing what's nessary to get it working and now you should be in the Act II Hawke Estate so go and grab your items and go to the World Map and go to the Hawke Estate in the map and it should go back to the Post-Campaign Estate and now go back and dump all your items into the chest.

J. Notes

I. Sometimes, depending on conditions in-game, editing the friendship/rivalry for party members doesn't always work correctly so try changing things around in game and try it again.

II. 360 ONLY: Extracting the .das/.das.x from a Warrior character doesn't always extract correctly (make sure the .das.x is exactly 4 bytes) and even from editing these saves come out corrupt the most.

III. Swapping in models for large creatures such as High Dragons or Varterrals will make the character in game be invisible but still a large creature.

IV. 360 ONLY: Whenver you edit your save you MUST always rehash and resign for it to work on your 360 again.

2. Now you are done and if I can think of anything else to add I will be sure to edit the post

*If the Xbox 360 sections are against the rules then contact me and I will remove those sections

Modding a single player game on the Xbox 360 has no repercussions.

It will only have consequences if you perform hardware/software modifications to the console itself and/or you are impacting other gamers' online gaming experiance in a negative way.

Modding is NOT illegal in any way and I am really getting annoyed by people giving false information to other people.

When people have 0 gamerscore on their accounts after having much, much more is because they modded their PROFILES to have gamerscore they did not earn. When people have their accounts suspended and their consoles banned when they don't have a modified Xbox 360 is because they were using mods to cheat in an online multiplayer game.

I also want to remind people that this topic is STICKIED and isn't just floating around the forums. I 100% respect Bioware for everything they have done with their games and with stickying this topic to help and increase the amount of enjoyment with their games.

------------------------
TL;DR:

Modding a single player game is perfectly fine since you are just editing saves.

If say, you swap out a character model for a Dragon, what would the Sex need to be set at?

Or is that not possible?

It is possible to do that, but sex, race and face don't need to be changed for creatures

One thing with the creatures though is that the models for them will do weird things when using talents/spells that aren't normally affiliated with them.

Same thing applies for abilities that you add to Hawke or anyone else. Those abilities will function in weird ways, glitch to be uneffective, or outright just freeze the character for the duration of the would-be animation.

For example, a Mage Hawke can add the "Assassin" tree from a Rogue, along with the ability "Assassinate"---now, where normally a Rogue will do a backflip and throw a dagger, a Mage has no animation set for that....so the result is that the Mage will simply run over to a target and do a simple (but still powerful, like the ability grants) melee attack with the staff). This is an example of a modified animation set for an added ability. This doesn't work for everything though: some abilities will not work at all. For example, if you give a Warrior/Mage the "Duelist" tree and subsequent "Vendetta" ability from a Rogue, they will simply become invisible for 3 seconds: reason being that the Mage/Warrior does not have an animation set where they vanish in a puff of smoke, teleport, and stab an enemy with a dagger.

Adding any abilities that are outside of your class won't break/freeze your game (so far), but they can be hit or miss. Adding Mighty Blow or Scythe to a Mage works perfectly as they will swing the weapon in the correct animations, but if you those powers to a bow-wielding Rogue, they will just stand there, doing nothing for second.

Although the glitchy animation for a Rogue using Blood Magic --> Grave Robber looks a lot cooler than the normal animation, IMO (the Rogue twitches rapidly as if elemental blood is being forced into his/her body; kind of like a freak-out...pretty cool).

To get the saves working on the 360 you are first going to need a way of transfering them from USB to your computer and I recommend USB XTAF Xplorer

Then you will need a STFS Manager (wxPIRS, Le Fluffie; Horizon would also work. Le Fluffie's extracted savegames always tend to be corrupt for me so I use wxPIRS then Le Fluffie to replace the files) to extract the savegame.das and savegame.das.x

Then once you are done editing with GFFeditor you have to use repair the checksum so use Dragon Age Checksum Fix

Then you have to use a STFS Manager to replace the modified savegame.das and savegame.das.x with the originals so use Le Fluffie for that (by right-clicking on the file)

Then run the whole save through Hashblock Calculator and hit "Caluclate Hash Blocks' and then put it back on your USB using USB Xplorer

I put all those programs in a .rar that you can find here

its not really item model swapping, its item swapping while retaining properties/effects.

For the most part the result is the same but if you do the above method to a set item, you'll break the set bonus because your 'new' item has a different reference to that required by the set.

Changing an item's material properties seems to have no effect other than its appearance (which tint map is applied).

That is what Item Model Swapping is since you are only swapping the model (and name) out and not the effects.

I can see with the item set bonus but that is why it would be better to not use those items if you plan on keeping the bonus or you can just edit the effects to make up for the bonus.

I asked this in another thread but maybe I'll have better luck over here: Does anyone know a quick method to transfer/copy my Xbox 360 saves onto my PC (and back to 360) without that Xport 360 adapter thing?

Yes, a USB

go up a few posts to another of mine that has a link of a .rar to MegaUpload

It has everything you will need to get the saves working from 360 and back.

You will need a program that can read the 360''s file structure and that program is included in the .rar and it is called USB XTAF Xplorer

Yeah, but in order to copy the saves onto external memory from the 360, it needs to format it after which my computer won't read it.

USB Xplorer will pick up on it even if your computer won't read it. Your computer should at least see that it is there.

When you open USB Xplorer hit 'File' then 'Open First USB' and it will pick it up

Dragon Age 2's folder would be this:

Data Partition > Content > 16 digits and it starts with E (this tells you what profile it belongs to) > 4541090B > 00000001

your save should look some like 0x5d2a6423_1_u!0

Then open it in wxPIRS and extract Savegame.das and Savegame.das.x

Alright, thanks! BTW, that link that you posted ain't working.

And the only reason I want to mod the save is to get rid of the Isabella bug (by editing the animation speed modifier), which I'm assuming you can correct in the save?

Yeah, it seems too many people are downloading them at the same making the link go down from time to time.

I will get a mirror up on FileFactory asap

and yes you can edit the attack speed of your character

in the rar is a program called FirstBlight and just open your save in that without extracting Savegame.das and Savegame.das.x and just change the speed.

Then save and open CONcept 0.3 and rehash and resign the save for it to work

Edit-

Here it is

So I don't extract it first?

It depends on what you are doing

FirstBlight covers Friendship/Rivalry by using a bar, Attack Speed by a simple numbber, Effect editing is also much easier.

Now that I know you want to do the attack speeds I reccommend using FirstBlight which only reads 360 saves as they are and not the parts that are extracted.
