I just read IGN's preview of Arrival and am a bit confused with what I read.

Warning opening this link will expose spoilers...  ps3.ign.com/articles/115/1157464p2.html

So once you rescue Dr. Kenson, she lays out her plans of destroying the relay that links to Batarian space which the Reapers are planning to use to launch their invasion from with an asteroid. Ok sounds good (although I don't undestand how an asteroid can destroy a relay when a supernova can't but I digress) but then immediateley afterward she betrays you!? What was the point of all that??? Why does she explain her whole plan to destroy the reapers when it looks like she's currently working for them?

I suppose we're just going to have to wait until Tuesday to get all the answers but does anyone else have a thought on this?

Hmm. Let's see; the Reapers probably see Shepard as a threat. Kenson is an old friend of Hackeet; they use that connection to ensure Shepard arrives alone. They lure him in with their puppet, so on and and so forth. What I found interesting was the bit about the sedative. I'm guessing that has to do with Cerberus's upgrades to Shepard 2.0.

I can easily imagine how a supernova can push a relay out of place and not destroy it.  One example...

Supernova!! BOOOM!!!

Shockwave/energy/radiation/heat flies in all directions.

Hits a planet.

Planet breaks up.

One big chunk flies along with the shock, grazing the relay and keeping itself between the relay and the heat/radiation absorbing said heat/radiation.

Example 2:

Supernova Boooom!!

Heat and radiation go everywhere....

It goes farther... disperses more

It goes farther... disperses more...

Hits the relay with just enough force to knock it out orbit, a good chunk of its destructive force dispersed.

I like that theory LordAnguis, very likely that could turn out to be what we see on the 29th. Still, why would Kenson explain how she's planning on aiding Shep against the Reapers only to (what sounds like immediately afterward since this all takes place in the first of five missions) betray him/her to them? Why would someone give an enemy a explanation as to how they have this grand plan to aid them only to betray them basically right after you explain said plan? Seems illogical to me at first glance.

I like the fact that Shepard woke up earlier than expected. Nice to see Cerberus' Lazarus project actually have a bit of an effect on the plot other than bringing him back to life.

That's because you are supposed to be knocked out and taken prisoner. You get an achievement for holding out for a while, but you will go down no matter what.

Hmm yes interesting.

Also how do we know the Virmire Survivor isn't in the DLC? Perhaps they show up in a later mission?

Anyways I imagine the asteroid will be used to knock the Relay into into a planet or the local star so that's it effectively destroyed. I doubt an asteroid alone, unless it is very large could destroy a relay. I'm surprised you find out Dr. Kenson is indoctrinated so early and that you have to fight the indoctrinated. I thought the surviving waves of enemies would be towards the very end.

Also I'm surprised Shepard would do this solo. I mean yeah it's a stealth mission, but where exactly is Shepard's team going to be during all this? Chilling on the Normandy while Shepard does everything? I mean yeah okay they probably couldn't get squadmate's VAs for this, but it's not like we're not use to them being silent anyways during DLCs. Seems like this was deliberately done to avoid that criticism. I dunno perhaps it will make more sense in context.

This does make me wonder if Object Rho, the Reaper artifact, is the same thing that T.I.M.'s encountered being the Shanxi artifact. Does this mean T.I.M. may be under the influence of the Reapers to an extent as well? Or was T.I.M. strong enough to resist?

Also I'm surprised you can do this after Horizon...

Surely later parts of this DLC can only be completed if you beat the game? It'd be silly if you dealt with the Reapers coming back before even doing anything about the Collectors. It worries me that there might be blatant plot inconsistences with this DLC as a result.

Yeah. I play all story DLC after the suicide mission. It makes canonical sense to do it that way.

If you can do the mission after Horizon, and if the reapers as of speaking to Doctor Kenson are about 2 days away...

Then it seems like no matter how you choose to play, you're going to stop the reapers coming through that really regardless...

Cause I don't think the rest of Mass Effect 2 after Horizon can be completed within 2 days (in universe that is...)

Well yeah. It looks like they are just laying the frame work for ME3 and not kicking it off right here.

Um...if you can destroy Relays by slamming asteroids into them, then how come there are any Relays left at all? I mean over millions of years a lot of them are going to get hit... Also...retcon! Relays going from almost indestructable to 'well I just don't think anyone has tried to destroy them'... So in all of the Reaper Cycles nobody has tried this? In the million or so years... I hope to god that this DLC makes up for this with gameplay, cause I'm rapidly losing faith in the storyline.

1. Kenson has a point, nobody has ever tried to destroy one on purpose before, just assuming it couldn't be done.
2. Kenson is also lying. She might have made the whole asteroid thing up.
