I got in a discussion about a certain bastard of a ranger, started looking up NWN2 quotes, remembered how much I love a certain wizard and officially have the urge to play again.

Thing is, I've always been utterly atrocious at builds. My characters are always weak (maybe my concepts are weak, but we'll gloss over that for now :D). I was wondering if it would be possible to do a successful:

1) warlock with
2) the ability to pick locks/deal with traps?
3) as a tiefling

Basically I want the ability to do rogue duties but have a nice demonic flavor on the side. ;) Any suggestions? I know there's a character build database but I don't know enough about them to know if they're any good or not.

:?

Any help would be appreciated ^_^

EDIT: This is...kinda...what I'm going for I guess. But they seem to take the rogue skills way too late (I'd assume I'd start out as a rogue) and...I don't really care about the whole hiding thing. I don't mind it necessarily, but it's not a requirement. I'd also be very open to a caster warlock vs. a melee.

You're right, the First Rule of Roguery is Roguery First.

That is, take your first level as a Rogue. You throw away way too many Skill Points otherwise.
As a Tiefling, you can stop at one level of Rogue and go all Warlock, if you like.

And there's no reason to take Luck of Heroes - your saves will be pretty good anyway and there's Devil's Own Luck to boost them.  Able Learner would serve much better.

As I look at that build, there's a lot of weirdness there.  Shield Proficiency?  High STR instead of DEX?

I'm sure you can come up with something better.

Thank you, those were the main questions I had. <3 I was thinking able learner as well. I do want my conversation skill (bluff, of course), too.

What would you suggest as my starting stats? I'd assume I'd do a charisma dump mostly as I go along (if I'm playing caster-y)?

That build uses Warlock for buffs, but fights at melee. It's a viable option if it's well done, but that one isn't.

As for your original question, a single Rogue level and the feat Able Learner will let you deal with traps and locks, and open some other skills.

For stats (I'll assume you'll be an offensive caster), go with decent (14-16) Charisma, Dexterity and Intelligence. Shield Proficiency is actually good, if you don't want to take a third class to get it for free.

This is a pretty basic Warlock build. Add a Rogue level at the beginning and Able Learner, and you're set:
