Third playthrough, and I can't seem to get it to trigger at all.

I watched youtube video where Varrick apparently brings up the topic of your romantic involvments at some point, but as I've said It never have happened to me. Have him at full friend too, visit hanged man often, talk and do companion quests as they pop up...

Anyone know the exact criteria for that conversation/quest to appear?

It should only require that you've slept with one of the romances and you've done at least one of the Qunari plots in Act 2.

Is it Lady Hawke only?  I've played through twice as a male!Hawke romancing Fenris and have never seen it.

No, it's supposed to be either gender.

Thanks, ms. Kirby... hrm, allright, this playthrough I've not yet done the qunari quests. I will and post if it works this time around.

Might it be something silly like a flag getting lost if you do qunari quests after the romance checkpoint? Or doing two quests in the row before it?

I'll try to recall the order I did things in previous playthroughs, will look through the savegames.

No, it's supposed to be either gender.

Hmmm...  I must be doing something that prevents it from triggering, then!  I'll try jiggering the quest order around a bit in this next playthrough.  Thank you for the response!

Hmm my Hawke slept with both Isabela and Merrill but didn't get anything like that even though game is in act 3 now. He didn't commit to either relationship though, could that make a difference?

It should still trigger. I specifically put in a response for the case where you either broke up with your romance, or (as in the case of Izzy and Fenris) you slept with them and they never called you again. It does sound like there's a bug here, though.

1st play through: I didn't get this with Merrill but I had her move in

Right now: Act 2, have slept with Isabela, and just started the quest with the missing qunari delegates. I gave Varric the signet ring and he's given me the quest to go to Bartrand's mansion.

I'm not sure how I'd know if Isabela "never called me again." You mean if she leaves at the end of of Act 2?

I never got it either and I did Isabella in 1 playthrough and romanced Merrill the other - chalk it up as another bug I guess

On the upside, if it's a bug it can be fixed! As opposed to a bunch of us just somehow managing to do things wrong all the time, which probably can't.

There's definitely a bug here. I used the game console to try to force it active to see what all the fuss was about, and something isn't being set right. When I use the debug script to activate it, Varric correctly notes that Hawke is with "the Rivaini", but then he says that Merrill is a sweet girl that's a whole bunch of crazy. This is in a playthrough where Hawke has never flirted with Merrill ever, and has only spent time with Isabela. I've tried playing with the romance flags on Isabela, but the Merrill script doesn't let me mess with hers.

Both Isabela and Fenris, after their sex scene, do a sort of, "Well, that was fun, but this was a one-night stand." talk with you.

You should get this conversation if you've slept with someone (whether or not they move in) once you have completed any of the following quests:

Night Terrors
Blackpowder Courtesy
Following the Qun
Offered and Lost

So if you've done one of those, and you don't get a journal update to talk to Varric, then there's definitely something wrong. Trying to track it down now.

That one, I knew about. The links got messed up at some point, and that's been addressed for the upcoming patch. Why the conversation is not occurring at all for some people, however, I don't know yet. I'll look into it.

Definitely a trigger issue then. I've done three playthroughs, and hit almost every quest I can, but I've never seen this quest trigger. I've also never romanced Anders or Fenris, which may be part of it.

On a side note, youtube videos seem to indicate that it correctly triggers for an Anders romance. I don't see any other videos posted for anyone else.

I can definitely say that it triggers for Anders, but not for Fenris. Had Varric very very very high up on points, all the quests done... nothing with Fenris, got it with Anders.

I can certainly add that, romancing Merrill, I've never come across this conversation.

I only (sort of...) romanced Fen on my playthrough. Didn't get this. Anders brought it up but I assumed it was because he was actually interested since my character flirted with him but didn't sleep with him.

Allrighty, Ms. Kirby, I've looked up previous two playthroughs.

They were both Fenris romances.
Accepted qunari quest, but did not complete them prior to the romance 'breaking point' where he talks and leaves.
Varrick's quest accepted after. Varrick also had his signet ring gift.
After completing qunari quest, no friendly concerns pop up.

This time I'm completing qunari quest first and I'll see if it works.

hoorayforicecream, what is the console command to activate the quest? I'd like it to play through it, even if i have to fiddle with console.

Anders always calls Fenris a beast and questions your relationship . Even if you don't flirt. He just hates Fenris that much or secretly totally has a thing for Hawke whichever.

Never got a scene like that either. Heck, the only one who talked about the romance was Isabela and Anders. I romanced Merrill.

I have the sneaking suspicion that it is only appearing when you romance Anders, because he is the only case that didn't have busted links, and I expected, once I saw they were out of whack, to see complaints like, "Why does Varric start out talking about my Fenris romance and then end up telling me about Isabela?" Tech design is trying to track it down now.

Has anybody gotten this conversation about a love interest other than Anders without using the console?
