Why woiould someone spre other to metagame? The guy is one of many assassins sent to murder you? He deserves no mercy, and you let him lvie he'll just murder others less skilled you. It's the moral thing to kill the bastard.

I did a play through where he betrayed me. He ended up dying and when that save was imported into DA2, the sidequest just never showed up.

I imported a save where I romanced her (the elven mage warden I wrote the story in my sig about), and found it painfully lacking at the end with no explanation whatsoever as to why she'd split from the warden and had no idea where he was/what he was up to.

My impression is that to give the illusion of continuity, the devs shoehorned in as many companions and major NPCs from DA:O as they could, whether it made good story sense to do so or not.

I'm not gay, sorry. Besides, even if I was gay, I wouldn't want to date someone who JUST TRIED TO MURDER ME! If Morrigan (or Isabella) tried to murder me, I wouldn't hesitate to slit their throats either no matter how hot they are (though I find a a way to use blood magic to reanimate their corpses...... i kid i kid... or am i?)

(not gay bashing either as i have no problems if gays don't care about the fact that morri is a HOTTIE either)

Morrigan and Zevran both have some of the funniest banter ever though.

I wouldn't know, but there's horrible people out there :(

I don't get it either. killing a potencial companion will end all future quests, conversations, banters, and romance... I just don't get it... It's like you choose to Not play a big part of the game, which you paid for....

For role-playing reasons, in some playthroughs I have Wardens kill Zevran because they just aren't the kind of people to let an assassin that just tried to kill them live, they are either fairly ruthless or just don't feel they can take that risk given their other problems.  Then the are other Wardens that hear him out and take him into the fold, it just depends on what their character is and how I feel that character would react to the ambush

Short answer as to why people you killed show up regardless. Bioware decided their decisions trumped any "choices" you thought you could actually make in DA:O. I rarely recruited Leliana because she had a whiny voice that grated on my nerves, but eventually did so just to hear her "story", and the way she acts so "goody two shoes" repulsed me after hearing her previous lifestyle of being an assassin bard type....she reminds me of many real life hypocrites that think going to church on sundays somehow redeems their craptastic qualities the rest of the week.
Zevran tried to kill me, so he died. Self defense.

Yep. In general, I enjoy BioWare games more if I do less metagaming. When starting DA:O I hadn't done any research or any background checks whatsoever, and didn't even realise Zev was a potential companion. 'Tis only natural to waste the slippery crow.

Still annoying how they make a big fuss about importing saves and then you get, like, an e-mail or something happens which shouldn't be possible.

They clear the anders bit up, if you have him meet nathaniel (he faked his death to get away from the gray wardens), and Zhevran coming back is an import-bug.

It's hard to fake a corpse with and arrow in the throat. I'd rather they didn't try to explain it.

To quote Anders - "let me guess, badly burned, in robes, all mages look the same to you?"

Because no one attacks the Grey Warden Commander and lives to tell the tale.  Same reason Nathaniel Howe was put to the sword for trying to break into my compound and I hunted down that Morrigan **** for abandoning us on the night of the big battle.

NO COMPROMISE. (soon as I read the preloaded story for DA2 I had to go back and play through it on DA:O) <_<

I like to keep him around to stay sharp - also a reminder to others who would send assassins after me.

Well in my very first playthrough, with absolutely no metagaming and even having no idea there could be romance with any character in the game, I let him alive. Why? Well, he begged for his life, was charming, and made it clear it was nothing personal, he had been paid for doing it and getting to keep his life seemed a better offer to both of us. I thought everybody deserves a second chance moreover when I had already defeated him and he would not survive a second attempt to do the same. And I had already recruited a psychopath Qunari who had confessed killing an innocent family, children included, without reason or hesitation... which seems even worse to me.

It proved to be a good choice, even if in that playthrough I didn't romance him. So it may be not as logical to kill him as some of you say.

Mmmmm... Zevran! Image IPB

Seriously, how could ANYONE slit that oh so pretty throat of his is just beyond me. Zevran is probably one of the most interesting and complex characters in DA:O. He merely comes across as very shallow when you first meet him... but you see, you gotta dig oh so much deeper to unravel the true gem that is Zevran. (I am trying very hard to refrain from using the good ole "Heavy risk, but the prize" line here and clearly failing miserably). Image IPB

I have never, ever had the heart to kill him, even on my first playthrough when my Warden was completely enamoured with Alistair. I simply found him very interesting and wanted to find out more about him. Also, I've never had a problem of him turning on me in Denerim but rather he remained by my side. I supposed it's because I always explored his character in depth that I never had a problem with him betraying me... Funny thing, that. Image IPB

So yes, there truly are some horrible, horrible people out there. Image IPB

And don't even get me started on the "Zevran" impostor in DA2... that sure as heck ain't MY Zevran... for starters, he certainly wasn't so squished! Image IPB
