I know that this topic will be locked down soon, but I thought you were interested in the opinion of one of our battle brother:

Interesting read

"It's bad enough that even the mainstream reporters have noticed, though they are generally quick to make excuses."

Guess that's a dig at all the other reviews that are out there.

It's more well written than anything I have ever seen you 'write' ... but you know that already. I haven't seen a single post of your add anything to any conversation ever. I'll go back to ignoring you now.

Say what you will of Codex, but that was a very fair review/critique of DA2 without just mindlessly bashing it (too much). The reviewer brought up a lot of very fair points and explained things pretty well.

This review is a must read for Bioware.

It seems very well balanced. In particular, it is not about trashing the game, but rather points out DA II's weaknesses in an honest way. On the other hand, the review doesn't fail to mention that DA II is not all bad.

In many way, it reflects my personal grievances with DA II. The sad thing is, there are many things about this game that I loved. I can see easily how DA II could have been a wonderful game. But instead it was a promise unkept.

I am left wondering: is it supposed to be awsome if you have to hack away at a boss for half an hour because he has thousands of HP? Or is it amazing when countless waves of enemies spawn out of nothing?

What was the target audience? The box says this game is supposed to be for adults. But it feels more like a product sprung from a teenage boys imagination: Violence is so over the top it can't be taken serious. Exploding bodies, flying heads, fountains of blood - a teenager might find this amusing, I find it ridiculous.
When it comes to sex, the pubescent character of this game is even more staggering: There is a lot of dirty talking, but when matters evolve beyond words the game gets incredibly shy. It is a strange contrast to the openness with which this game adresses homosexuality.

Sorry, I am starting to rant. But there is only one thing about DA 2 that truely amazes me: Was Mike Laidlaw truely convinced of DA 2's virtues or is he that good at pretending???

I'm not a fan of the Codex for a lot of reasons but yes it's very hard to argue with this review. He's pretty much spot on just with the usual hate-filled bile the Codex love to use.

I never got the hate filled bile from Mr. Weller. From the Codex forums? Meh, only if you easily offended I guess.

Check the DA:O review by the same reviewer:

Made me want to play Origins all over again.

That review certainly is entertaining, at the very least.

I especially like Stanley Woo's new title. And the crack about EA and closing studios.

This is an excellent review by a clear lover of Bioware's previous work.

There are quite a few of these through, honest reviews now. I pray thhat they have some impanct on Bioware.

A very fair review. Not everything at the site is a hate filled rant. (But a lot of the forum posts are. ^_^)

I'd bet the powers that be at Bioware will just ignore it because it's posted at the Codex however.

They are rather more colourful in their language than is nessesary although I am not easily offended I simply find it a little unprofessional. Like the little dig he made at Feargus Urquart when New Vegas was fantastic. Obsidian have a reputation of being Bugsidian but in the case of New Vegas it was largely unwarranted especially when you compare it to the utterly broken state Fallout 3 shipped in.

As for the forums well, yeah there are some rather strange individuals that reside there.

Very well written review.

And very accurate.

*edit - well, except for the fictional end conversation.  I see it more like this:

EA guy: And what did we learn?
Laidlaw:  That people aren't ready for our awesomeness yet.
EA guy:  true.  But they still bought it, right?
Laidlaw:  Yup, they did.  And eventually, they will see how wonderful it is.
EA guy:  Good.  Now, when will DA3 be coming out?  Christmas?

The review is pretty fair, well thought out and covers most of the game's problems. I'd also throw in a few words about the extremely badly written dialogues. Also not having played Chapter 3 made him miss all the bugs and miss the ending, which is disappointing and anticlimatic to say the least.

Thanks OP, a kind of funny and very sarcastic review. Someone really needs to put this line in a movie for an extra in a crowd to say.

"Don't mess with that dude, he presses a button and something awesome happens."

The part on play mechanics was the best part. Boss fights where there is little complexity other than killing the "HP behemoths" is actually kind of sadly true. I miss taking off layers of spells like in a classic lich battle in Baldur's Gate or having a nice puzzle type boss fight instead of pounding away at potions and the awesome button.

I dig it. Good review, very well-thought-out, says a lot of the same stuff I've been saying.

Love that they referenced the Firkaag fight. That one was one of the most epic in the series.

I totally agree, on my own site I would have added more venom and contempt in my appraisal of the game.
