Disappointing.

Its too bad we likely won't ever see the Warden again in a future Dragon Age title. A cameo at best, which, even that is quite unlikely given the circumstances. Best we can hope for are the tiny little references to the "Hero of Ferelden".
Disappointing.
While I think you're right, I think that the third game's protaganist will be the son/daughter of the hero and Morrigan. But then again, some people would not have taken her up on her offer... I reckon that that's how it is, anyway. Or something close to that. I know it means we wont be able to use our wardens but we might be able to create a new character who was born with the soul of an arch demon! Unless he/she is the antagonist of the game... or a non playable character... Sorry, I'm rambling.
On topic, however, I like both characters for different reasons; My Warden because I can project my personality onto him and Hawke because he has a great peronality of his own.

Voiced protagonist > silent one.
Usualy that is. It was fun playing Warden and I really liked the first game, but if I had to pick one I would go for Hawke. I don't really care, as long as dialogue is good and interesting, which it has been in both games.
I don't really miss Warden, his story has been told.

Voiced protagonist actually detracts from the game when there is no choice in voice type and your voice often sound awkward with your appearance.
The Warden feels more like MY character. Hawke feels like a premade character that i have some influence over.

I suppose it'd be different if DAO had a voiced protaganist (like Shepard in Mass Effect).

I prefer non-voiced protagonists. While I think it's technically better hearing what your character says, it's impossible to accomplish this for me without sacrificing too much on the player-input level. In other words, until they (and by until, I mean likely never) include 4-5 different voice actor soundsets you're allowed to choose from at character creation, I will not be on board for a voiced hero. I hate playing the "how will Hawke translate my dialogue command?" guessing game. Whether it's a wheel or a tree, I don't care. So long as there are a variety of options and I can actually SEE WHAT MY CHARACTER'S RESPONSE IS GOING TO BE. Also, I was under the impression that having your main character actually join in on party banter regularly would be part of the "voice actor" package, but even that turned out not to be the case (like 98% of the time).

sure lets support the hero's journey archetype without ever changing formulas. i mean its worked for the past thousand years! surely it can work past the obvious story end. /sarcasm off.thenemesis77 wrote...
The true Hero and that is The Warden, not Hawke a cardboard cutout of Mike and David's mad mind. I can't even think as to why they would do away with The Warden, you had a great story and character, **** bank off of it and you had such a good score of the game from all sides and yet you go against the player base.........I use to have respect for BioWare but they have thrown the Warden and the player base under the bus, if this is what David thinks is good Story.....please.
you could see what would happen from a mile away.
point is the wardens story is/was over with the story of the archdemon/architect. If the series continues on focussing on heroes across the land rather then sticking to one i'll be happy.

So it'd have to be Hawke.

Hawke, mostly because I personally favor fully voiced character.
That is how I feel. I liked my Warden, but I usually don't get attached to silent main characters. They're just a body and a blank stare. Hawke, on the other hand, I feel an emotional connection to. The voice work really helps.

I liked my Hawke but I didn't feel as in control of the things that she said and did.

for a lot of reasons already listed. Loved shaping my own character rather than deciding which of three ways she was going to vocally reach the same conclusion. Loved her allies, loved her backstory, loved her story-story. I still feel like she could easily take Hawke in a fight (if Aveline wasn't there to step in).

Hawke was Bioware's character.
Vidarr Cousland was my character.
