I never could dream I will say this but Hawke for me. I was heavily biased thru him before DA 2 released, didn't like playing a pre-made character idea.

My current Hawke has very interesting feeling. Warden felt more personal but this Hawke (the one in my avatar atm) completely different. DA2 (even with bugs and flaws of game) has that lovely feeling of playing a good novel. So Hawke become one of my favorite protagonist. As a gay guy I have never interested with m/f romances in games (even on DA:O I just bed with ladies for achievements sake than deleted that run) but Hawke has that interesting feeling so his romance with Merrill feels okay. Path that leading to their love has a good novelity... guy tries the protect the lady he cares deeply from a big evil. Lady despises him, hates him but in the end she realizes he was right all along and finds herself madly in love with him. Charming...

Warden changed many things, effected many lives but Hawke effected people close to him, trying his best to make their life better instead his shatered life.

So in short:
Warden --> Another game character I played and loved
Hawke --> One of the favorite fictional characters.

The Warden is the second best RPG character of all time (after Revan from KotOR), Hawke is just an ok character.

For me, I choose the Warden. I like DA:O a lot better then DA2, really disappointed that I pre-ordered DA2 as I feel it in no way compares to DA:O. Hawke wouldn't last 10 seconds to any of my Wardens. Well back to Origins, bye DA2. That's my 2 cents.

I would say it is a 50/50 split, they each have their own charm.

Always the warden for me. Hawke was too pre created for me and after how her life ended up I dont blame her for disappearing.

Hawke was cool and pretty much a B.M.F., but he's no Warden.

Hawke for me over my warden. Having voiced character over expressionless warden was a definite improvement imo.

That's a hard one. I'd say I prefer whichever one I am playing at the time ...

That said, there was more to Hawke's like than the Wardens, so if I absolute HAD to choose, I guess Hawke would win by a very tiny margin ... bug again, that's probably because I'm currently playing that game.

My Warden, hands down. Kai was a fictional character in a book I got to play. I felt the same way Asperius does but with opposite characters.

Hawke was pre-made, and I never really was her. I doubt, for instance, I will ever write any fanfiction based on Rhedyn. She is BioWare's character and I liken her to the cars on the rails at Disney Land back in the day. You had the illusion you were driving, but not really. Kai is like the bumper cars, yes there were boundries you couldn't cross...but I got to bump into other cars causing a reaction, and drive around (even if it was only in circles).

I like Hawke but don't love her and the tell tale thing for me...I am not inspired with stories in my head of her. I have written over 300k for my Warden, and still counting. And I much prefere being able to pick what my characters says rather than the not always happy surprise. IMHO I find the dialogue wheel dumb, boring, and I hatet having my hand held (heart, diamond, halo and wings, angry fist).  Give me six different complete sentences like those "choose your own adventure" books. Ohhh, page 98, "You get eaten by a Groo."  Dammit! *flips back in the book.

 Hawke :wizard:

I never felt connected to the Warden.  To me, Origins was Alistair's story.  My warden was just along to put him on the throne in new and interesting ways. :D

Having Jo Wyatt's stellar voice acting, especially the humourous tone, (see favorite quote below ) just made me love my character.  I cared about Hawke more than I ever cared about the Warden.

I'm already on my 7th playthrough. :o

Definitely Hawke. (especially male Hawke) I never wrote fanfiction for my warden because I automatically felt like it was a Mary Sue. Ugh. Now, I'm knee deep in a Fenris/Hawke/Anders fic and I'm totally in love. I loved sarcastic Hawke. He (and she) is awesome. He's this real, full character for me. With the warden, there were no facial expressions to be had. When the Warden was happy or sad or sarcastic or whatever, it was the same blank expression. No life.

But Hawke! Especially on The Long Road, with the raised eyebrow and the wtf face and the vicarious embarrassment. Just. Yes, Hawke.

I'd say Hawke. I think the whole idea of establishing a character tone adds a lot to the character feeling real.

Plus in DA:O, try as I might, I couldn't pull off the smarmy hero-type like I could in DA2.

The Warden. She is my little girl and everything she said and did made me very proud. Hawke at this point hasn't done anything that amused me terribly...I actually like more Varric than Hawke in general lines.

To me, this is like asking, who do you like more, you, or also you?

I like them both, because to me, they're basically the same person.

My vote went to the Warden. In DA2 we were promised that Hawke's decisions would "shape the world" (listen to the BW podcasts), but any major decision in that game turned out to be totally unimportant to the point that I didn't care anymore. The cake was a lie and the main story played out the same, no matter what. I think it has to do with the impact being cosmetic. And after you play the game several times it becomes a kind of background noise which you only miss when it stops. Hehe. So, if you don't find the angry elf at the Wounded Coast then you think "Oh, the Warden must have killed the elves" and prepare yourself for the qunari waves that are about to pop up. :P

I like them both! Human warden vs hawk= equal love.

Wich one would I prefer playing? I like my dalish elf more, it was hard for my dalish elf to find a way to forgive humans until she meet zathrian, then she realized that anyone can be evil and do despicable things to another human being. if we would had had more adventure with the warden would have been great! But I don't regreat playing as hawk at all, it open the world in so many multiples way is just fantastic.

The Warden, simply because their are more background options and choices that can be made.

My personal favorite warden is the Dwarf noble exiled from his house who crowns himself king in front of the senate. Oh wait, you can't do that.... :(

Hawke. I was on the fence about the VA, but I have to say it made a big difference. I definitely felt more emotionally committed to Hawke than the Warden just because of his ability to emote. I also found the story more personal, so there were more opportunities to connect with my character. Origins had an epic story line, but that also meant the Warden was personally tied to some of the action. In DA2, there's a personal motivation for just about every quest, which means more chances to relate to the PC.

I love my sarcastic Hawke. Her personality came out perfectly and I loved it. Agree with what you said about the quests being more personal as well.
I never felt involved in any part of the wardens struggle except for killing Howe and her relationship with Leliana. Whereas I felt much more involved in what Hawke was doing.
Now granted if my Warden could emote and have a voice I might feel more involved, but I dunno. I really like Hawke.

Also Im probably in the minority in that I /hate/ the Grey Wardens. I liked fighting to save Fereldons but except for railroading I'd have never joined them.
