Purely anecdotal, but why don't they strip the colonists? Wouldn't their clothing made from artificial fibers pollute the reaper paste? Mmmmm, reaper paste.

If I had to guess, I'd assume that the nanobots shuttled any non-human material into a different tank before filling up the Reaper with us-flavored Soft Serve.

And okay, I'll give you the 'The collectors have been active' thing. I'm not too incredibly deep into the lore myself, so I just assumed they hadn't been all that active until recently.

I still see the Reapers as the type to have several plans going at once, though, rather than a "let's implement all our plans one-at-a-time until something works" type deal, which is why I still think that they were already on the move -- or at least, SOME of them were on the move -- when Sovereign was trying to open up the relay.

Still not quite sure what the purpose of the baby reaper was if there was another force of Reapers just a few days out, though...

"Second, why do they refer to the process as ascension - rising to a higher plane without death? Its a clear term. We don't say we're ascending a cow when we turn it into steaks."

I disagree. Steak is the highest plane of existence attainable by a cow.

People are forgetting that the Reapers are in SPACE. You don't need thrusters to move. Get a good enough momentum and you're sailing in invisible water. Energy is not needed. The only waste would be minimal to see that they are in the right course to reach the Milky Way.

Hey, you just supported my argument...now I'm confused.

I was never against anyone here, just mentioning my points of view.

Okay, but what about the steak?

If I recall from the codex, FTL travel means that you have to keep a mass effect field going which does take some energy, that's why starships have to find planets to dump their excess charge at after prolonged FTL travel.  Gas giants with small gravity wells are perfect for this.

Also, well made @Wathever, a lot of good points there. I'd say it's speculation, but it's very well summed up.

It would be nice to know exatly how for beyond the galactic rim the reapers decided to park. And I just thought of something, if no ships can safely traverse the omega 4 relay, then why don't the reapers just chill there?

Presumably because it's at the galactic core, and is too s'plodey for it to be safe. Keep in mind, all those ships you saw in the cinematic? They weren't killed by the collectors, they were killed by the constant explosions and black holes the galactic core generates. S'why the collectors had to stay on a (presumably manueverable) space station.

I don't know, if I'm going into "hibernation" I don't think I'd pick the area of the universe that's the most active.  That's IF they hibernate.  Maybe they don't "chill" maybe they roam from galaxy to galaxy on some unknown agenda.

Well, they wanted to warp into the citadel and kill everyone from there but they could have made the other side of that at the core instead of darkspace. But why is the core better than darkspace? The core looks like a lot more dangerous place. And if you ever did have to hoof it out by FTL instead of a relay, the radiation and gravity of the core would make tha a lot more difficult trip.

I don't think it's smart to "chill" next to a black hole. Maybe they'd drift towards it. Also, the Reapers needing to discharge they're cores can be a simple plothole since there are no planets in dark space.

Yes, that's true, but the bigger the element zero core, the farther you can travel before having to discharge. And to throw out some total speculation of my own, who's to say the reapers don't have a technological work-around for that little problem? Maybe they could discharge all over each-other.

...ewwwww

Just a thought people. Yeah, it doesn't make a great deal of sense, just putting it out there. So then, why don't they just have a relay out in dark space that they can use whenever? It. Does. Not. Compute!

They do.

it's called The Citadel.

*Edit* Or rather, the other end of the Citadel. Each mass effect relay has to have a connecting point, remember.

They probably do. The big primary relays can only connect to a paired relay, though. And there relay was the Citadel, which was turned off.

Arrival probably has them re-aligning to another relay, which they probably modified to give it the power to open the corridor.
