They made no reference of it later in the game, nada, nothing, AT ALL!

what do you guys think it is? Someone from the Fenris thread brought this up and it got me thinking. It can't be information on where Danarius because who leaves info like that in a guarded box? Plus Fenris got his info from a slaver magister (that looked a Sims 3 character)...and Aside from that...I can't think of what It can possibly be!

He was obviously expecting something that he wanted inside it, but it's not there... hmmm......

thoughts?

No idea about the box...  My main thought for that sequence was "how in the heck did Fenris figure out where Danarius is staying?" since he cannot actually read.

Maybe it was map with a big "X" marks the spot? That's the only thing that I could make work.

The other "continuity smash" moment for me was that Merrill explicitly states "she's never met a human before" ... and then talks about Duncan's squirrel-beard a few hours later. Oh well.

The way I understand it, Fenris could probably read simple words, like every day notes or even business letters. But when it comes to complicated literature or academic studies, his reading skill is not competent enough.

I kind of took as him having the literary skills of someone very young; can comprehend basic writing, but you wouldn't ask a five year-old to read Lord of the Rings.

well, English is not my first language, so I kind of remembers how I learn it. It's not like you can't read a thing and then out of blue, you can read Shakespeare. You start with simple things, short articles, shop signes, food/product descriptions, then you move on to more difficult stuff, news report, editorials, magazines, then you move on to literature and academic research.

So I figure Fenris' reading wasn't enough to read historical biographies, like the slave book you give him, but probably good enough to read maps, letters, and other simple daily stuff.

Illiterate people actually can do pretty well. I've heard a lot of stories of people who either had poor education (or none) or who know a different language that can remember shapes of words, but not actually read.

English is not my first language either, but I seriously do not really remember how I learned...it was a difficult process and that's all I know. I do remember knowing the alphabet, but that doesn't help me within forming words or sentences. I remember the first sentence I was able to do all by myself was to write out numbers in words. Like instead of 1234, it would one thousand two hundred and thirty four. It was great LOL

That's how I took it. It's not reading persay, but you learn to recognise certain patterns mean certain things. It's the same reason why we (at least in most western countries) tend to stop for any sort of red sign; we've seen enough to be conditioned to respond to, in this case, a specific colour- we know what to do even without reading the sign itself. Fenris can probably recognise certain names and words enough to get a general idea of what's going on.

Read it again. If it still doesn't make sense, that's ok. It's probably better that way.

The box in Bait and Switch? I thought Anso said it contained lyrium.

I was under the impression that he was hoping it was something of Danarius', a means of figuring out where he is. Instead, he found it on the man's corpse and as a result didn't really worry about it again. But that's just how I figured it.

Maybe Fenris was afraid that Danarius either set a trap in the box or placed a note in there that says "Kill Fenris and I will reward you".

Kill Fenris? I thought Danarius was trying to recapture Fenris! He says Fenris is really valuable.

Fenris was hoping his family was in the box. :(

that's what Anso said, but that's not what's suppose to be in there because Anso "is not what we believe him to be" or whatever. If it's just lyrium, why would Fenris be interested, you know? he would've known that...and having nothing in there is just a bit...weird when "it supposed to contain lyrium"

doesn't seem like it. It's kinda odd to keep something that tells people your whereabout in a random chest located in a place that's not exactly the safest part of town
