There are so many ways Bioware could have injected more choice into this game, just with minor tweaks.

For example, take Anders' blowing up the Chantry. That happens whatever you do... help him distract the Grand Cleric or don't, help him get his materials or don't, heck send him away after killing that Mage girl and he still gets the job done.

Easy tweaks that would have made the whole thing more satisfying:

- Make it possible for Hawke to get Anders to confess his plans right at the outset - get past his lie about the potion, and get it out in the open
- Make it possible for Hawke to change Anders' mind and actually have him try to stop what is going to happen
(Both of the above would have really been welcome whilst in a long-term living-together relationship with the guy)

Then, even if you win him over, just introduce some random Mage or two from the underground movement he's been nurturing for 7 years and let them actually set off the Chantry bomb in his name. Anders can then just angst about it.

Another tweak:

- Make it possible for Hawke to get Anders to confess his plans... and then actively help him. The easiest and most obvious tweak of all!

Even more fun:

- Get Anders so worked up Justice completely takes him over (as he does if you Rivalmance Anders and actually convince him briefly to call off his revolution, before Justice comes out and warns you off), and sets off the bomb in the Chantry.... Same result as current storyline, but so so SO much more satisfying to have the option of going that route.

---- All routes lead to the Chantry going boom

There must be loads of examples where more choices/paths could have been worked in without derailing the storyline too much.

Suggestions? :?

I wanted there to be more of a dangerous element to being with Anders in a serious relationship. I mean, it HAS to damage at least the credibility of "The Champion" that she's known to be shacking up with the town's most revolutionary apostate who has defied capture for years. Some more harassment by the powers that be would have been realistic, and help align main characters with Ander's anti-templar point of view - who we are otherwise never hampered by until the end.

That, or give Justice some teeth. He doesn't approve of the relationship, so why does everything seem like smooth sailing until Ander's makes things go boom - and even THEN we didn't see Justice for more than a millisecond in the big blow off speech, and not at all after that. I'd love to see Justice get pissed at the main character for NOT killing Anders - since that would be just wouldn't it?

It's like they took Anders from Awakenings, changed him by putting Justice in him - but never got around to changing what Justice was in Awakenings: a bored confused spirit from the Fade who was unlikely to find anything worth more than a comment or two. Justice became Vengeance so why aren't we seeing that in Anders in a relationship?

I'd have liked to see more Justice. In a friendlymance, having him come out and Hawke being able to agree with him would have made for interesting results.

As much as I love the game and don't mind the ending, there really should have been more than one way to start the riot. Maybe Orsino picks up where Anders left off. Hell, I'd like to see Elthina finally trying to broker peace and having Meredith AND Orsino create merry hell. The Viscount ending, imo, should have been a third way- Hawke and Co trying to save Kirkwall from the cluster**** that was mages versus templars.

I greatly dislike Anders, but I'm not interested in neutering the character to the awesome might of Hawke's persuasive skills.

In fact, I don't think Hawke should have the persuasive skill of Shepard, who managed to convince Saren to blow his own brains out. One of the reasons I like Dragon Age II is that Hawke isn't as powerful and awesome as previous BioWare heroes.

Hawke can't fix Anders. On a fundamental level, Anders doesn't exist anymore.

According to the guide, if your dominant personality is aggressive, there's a choice in the Act 2 qunari questline to murder the delegates yourself and then agree with Patrice's decisions.

I love your idea to try and convince Anders to tell you about his plan :).

It is a bit too late to change this however, cause many people have already finished the game and it might make a lot of people upset about their game in DA3 (especially there are a lot of people out there who play games through only once).

yeah that's true I did get that choice actually...I mean in act 1 - sheperding wolves...when she first asks you if you will help her there is the green checkmark choice in the upper right and the reject red x in the bottom right...yet when you select reject she simply acts as though you just agreed to help her...it is actually kind of bizzare...I honestly though I had hit the wrong button the first time and reloaded a save only to find out I really did not have a choice in the matter...

slightly off topic - with the enemies among us quest - do you know whether Hawke  resisting the apostitute is based on being a mage or on personality type since it leads to a quest...
