Just finished DA2 , the game was very fun and I enjoyed the hell out of it but after watching the credits roll ...I just felt as if it shouldn’t have finished yet and I think I know why I felt that way.

3 acts just made the whole experience feel rushed, by this I don’t mean the game was too “short” (took me 40+ hours on my first play through) rather that the story didn’t feel like 10 years had passed. Just saying “and then 3 years went by” doesn’t make it feel like it did.  When I first heard of the game’s time span I instantly thought that I would see Kirkwall constantly change and grow over time, that my decisions would influence what parts of the city would flourish or suffer/rebel against me.  I also thought that since it would be 10 years, the relationships you build with your companions would be incredibly deep, that length of time would give the writers the opportunity to make us feel very attached to them.  10 years also allows for so many plot twists and secrets that your companions and the main story could have had I guess I was just a bit disappointed the game wasn’t like I thought it would be.

3 acts just didn’t make me believe that amount of time had passed; it might as well have been 3 years.  I guess I was expecting more chapters, shorter chapters that gradually told Hawke’s story, that gradually let you build relationships and showed how much Kirkwall had changed because of your influence.  I suppose I expected it be broken up better? I enjoyed the game very much but the whole “then three years passed and then ANOTHER 3 years passed” thing was a bit of a let down.  The game felt like it wanted to rush through the time line as soon as possible.  I would have also liked Hawke to do things during those time skips that took her briefly away from Kirkwall so that coming back would be a shock or a surprise.  Something that wouldn’t make it seem like she just twiddled her thumbs in Kirkwall for three years at a time you know? One more thing that could have had great potential was Varric asking Hawke what she wanted to do, I actually thought that I would have the choice to own a business or become a political speaker or whatever at one point in the game.

Anyway this is just an opinion but did anyone feel the same way I did? What were you expecting a 10 year time line to be like before you played the game?

I expected a lot more interaction with my companions.

And yes, I expected them to change clothes at some point, too.

They do that, once you bed them. Which leads me to believe, they simply wear the same for seven years because they can't unzip their pants.

Fenris doesn't change, he wears a red sash around his wrist the and family emblem on his waist, but his clothes remain the same.

Not in my game they didn't.

I slept with Isabela . . .she never changed clothes.

Slept with Merrill . . while she had that interesting lingerie in bed, when I tossed her out in the morning, she went right back to her old clothes.

Isabella not changing is a bug - respec her with one of the potions from the emporium and it works. As for Merill - once the moved in with me, she changed into a rather nice suit of armor.

Oh, well, I don't want any of them to move in with me.  To be honest, I'm not sure how I wound up in bed with either . . . didn't really intend that to happen.

So, yea, if I have to complete the romance to have them change clothes - not worth it.

Isabela armor change is bugged, you can do two things keep reloading the bed scene over and over til it triggers correctly, or buy a Maker's Sigh potion from emporium and respecc her (she will change armor instantly, but be aware that its a very minor change) Merril probably has the most radical change of clothing, going from Ghetto equipement to bloody Holy Jesus Armor in a instant.

Anders simply get's dumped in tar for his armor change. Aveline changes when she joins the guard, so the only one staying the same is Varric.

Indeed looks like Anders feel face first into tar and kinda forgot to clean his armor, Varric has a very minor armor change if you let him keep the lyrium idol if i remember correctly (i might be totally wrong though)

The game experience certainly felt rushed. That's probably because it was. Amazing thing is that even with excessive recycling of envinronments, it still felt rushed.

This game needs an expansion for the core game. New "unique" locales for each year of the game, not just the same damn warehouse you visit every chapter.

Just so that you won't mistaken me for a hater, this is pretty much the only issue I have with DA2. Lack of frigging unique content. Reason it takes 40 hours to finish the game is that you visit every available map a dozen times with added minor cosmetic changes. I definitely didn't feel like I was shown all of Kirkwell in those 10 years.

You didn't like that cave you went into 40 times even though it was located in different places? Something the matter with using the same entrance in Dark Town to go your house then some place that looked like the Deep Roads. All the trapdoors are magical....That's what happens when you rush and that's what we have to look forward in Mass Effect 3. Can't wait....

Well.... What would have been awesome (and somewhat hard to impliment correctly) is a Diablo style Dungeon Generator.... so for those random sortie into the Deep Roads, or the sewers, it would have been diffrent.

However aside from that... It DID feel a bit weak. I don't mind the city not changing much, as in reality, a city does not change much (I think there should have been more damage and things after the Qunari attack, but thats it)'. However, in truth, there was little purpose in most of my decisions. I mean, my biggest gripe, was the Bone Pit Mines. I knew that almost all the people were gonna die. That was obvious. However, why is it, once I became partner, I could not hire guards, or make rules, or hell make MONEY. Also, Time is something that most modern RPG's bother me with..

Old RPG's like Arena and Daggerfall, have time limits on things. If I do not complete quest x by day y, then it does not happen, and something could be a consiquense. This would have worked great with some of these quests, such as Mother, or some companion quests like Avaline or Fenris.

BUT, most RPG's do that now. Not sure why persay, but has its uses I suppose.

Yeah I didn't want to come across like a "hater" either but like you this was pretty much the only gripe I had with it apart from the rushed pacing, everything else was fantastic (combat was fun, dialogue was top notch etc).  I think if the game takes on such a long time period it needs to make the most of it. I know it would have felt a lot more satisfying to finish if I played through multiple acts and not just 3. I was just thinking  today how I first felt when I finished my first play through of origins,  "is that it?" never entered into my head for an instant. I felt like it had been a long epic journey, everything I did had built up to that final moment and I really believed that a whole year had passed since my warden started her journey. My companions behaved like friends I had travelled with for a whole year , and when the final battle came...I was so moved when each of them told my warden how they felt about her, you really felt the strong connection between them. DA2's companions were supposed to be 10 year old friends yet I felt closer to the origins group. If there had been more acts , each gradually letting you build your relationships and each of them ending with a "big moment" or cool plot twist that built up (and had proper significance) to the finale it would have felt better to finish.

You have to remember now though that the npc's have no emotions to anything you do. The environment isn't as reactive to your actions as in say.. Well i don't know. Daggerfall i guess. Thats just the way the Dragon Age games are. Whatever it is you do it doesn't really affect much. But thats now good to hear. I was griping when Isabelas' armor stayed the same. Bioware wrote a great game down but it is just really affected by all the bugs in it.
