Hi all,

I was just wondering if it is possible to get Merrill to give up the blood magic without being rivals wither her?

I don't believe it is. In Friendship, you support what the character does and who they are. In Rivalry, you challenge what they do and what they think. If you're going along the Friendship path, you're not condemning Merrill for using blood magic or trying to restore the Eluvian.

The problem is that you can be consistently anti-blood magic and still end up on the friendship path.

Remember. Friends don't tell friends to give up blood magic.'

If you were really her friend, you would know that.

Wow I hope I'm never on drugs and its runing my life and your my friend.

You can romance her and befriend her down the romance path, hell you can rival pretty much ANY of your teammates and still be on good terms, minus a couple of things. I went down the Rivalry Path with Merrill as my Hawke cared for her. The mirror already killed on person, the demon in it has possesed her keeper, and was aiming to get her. Making her see the error of her ways is being far more of a friend than letting her to as she wishes.

That isn't a friend, thats a usser or a person with no spine.

That's all based on the assumption that blood magic is inherently bad.

I like how powerful she is as a blood mage. Does that make me a bad person?

Absolutely not. Merrill being a super-powerful badass witch only makes her sexier*.

Can she still use "Blood of the First" if you rivalry her into giving up blood magic?

*So what if I had a crush on Willow?

She's the easiest to rivalmance. Take her on the Forbidden Knowledge quest and destroy every single tome. Then don't give her the tool to fix the mirror... BOOM, serious amounts of rival points with zero effort.
