I tried doing the rival-mance (100%) and going to the templars but Anders refused and I let him go..
assuming from what Ms. Hepler said, does that mean that there's going to be patch? or there's a specific way to get him onto the templars side... :S

There's going to be a patch yes. We just have to wait a while longer.

I'm doing the Anders rival-mance in my current play through. Truthfully, I feel a bit dirty sending all the mages I find to the circle considering it really is oppressive and cruel in this story (and I'm playing a mage...). I wish there was a way to disagree with his extremism without having to side with the templars at every turn...and all to just get the kiss during his crisis at the end. Oh the lengths we will go through... Considering the ending seems to be broken at present, I may restart my game again and save the current play through for when it gets fixed.

Couldn't you just leave Anders behind anytime you might free mages? And then bring him along if you side with demons while also being a jerk to him during his personal quest and talks? I pretty much do the opposite on a pro-mage playthrough with Fenris and it works just fine. (Like you, I have a hard time siding against mages, and an equally hard time being mean to Anders, which means I'll probably never see the rivalmance. After all, I don't disagree with his cause, just his methods).

I'd feel just as bad - if not worse - being a jerk to him while trying to romance him, actually.  That is just a bit too dysfunctional for my tastes.  Bleh...I really don't like either option. The more I talk this out the more I feel I'll probably have to settle for the youTube videos of his rival-mance ending.  But I'd like to see his admission that merging with Justice was the wrong thing, too.  Dammit Anders!!!  Why do I have to like you?!?

You can convince anders to join the templars against hte mages.

...and the templars accept his help?

The only reason the mages are going to be slaughtered anyway (and it isn't untill far after you pick sides you're given an indication they intend to spare any mages), is because Anders did something. So basically, we go punish the circle for something Anders did....with Anders at our side.

That doesn't make ANY sense.

From what I've seen and heard it seems like Anders agrees to help on condition that you kill him right after the battle's over.

Hmm. I tried the rival romance with him. Got it to 100% and then in the final 'Questionning Beliefs' conversation, questionned him about lying about the potion and Chantry, etc. He got angry, then started to agree, then Justice showed up and told Hawke to sod off, and then Anders admitted that it was all a mistake.
But he still wouldn't help Hawke when she sided with the templars. Am I doing something wrong, or is it bugged?

Same here. Patiently waiting for the patch. Although if it is true what people say about Anders asking to die after the battle, I am not sure it is going to be a happy ending.

Anders doesn't have a happy ending regardless. He either asks you to kill him or gets swallowed up by Vengeance. Either way Anders ends up dead.

Yeah, it's pretty tragic no matter how you play it.  In fact, I can't really find a happy ending at all in DA2.  It doesn't have the warm-fuzzy option that Origins had.

I've put my Anders rival-mance game asside for now and have started a new game.  Once they patch, I'll pick it up again, perhaps.

I just wish I knew which bit it was that I was doing wrong. =) I've gotten Justice to come out and tell me to sod off, a couple different ways. He did say he was wrong to merge with Justice and hoped I could forgive him for his weakness, and I was at full rivalry + romance. No change at the end of the game, though, he still wouldn't side with the templars. I'll keep trying.

It is definately bugged. There are so many bugged lines that don't show up regularly. :(

I guess I should've guessed there'd be no happy ending with Anders. Maybe killing him is more merciful? Image IPB
Forgive me for being dense, but would this patch only available for PC versions, or do console versions also get it?

If we spare him and be on run with him at the end, we will have to make the decision between making complete Janders or supprting Anders to be the domiant personality as long as possible. I'd rather face this decision instead of killing him. Even the struggling is too hard to bear, it's still so much better to live than to die.

If the patch is the official one, it has to support consoles as well.

He's such a troubling fellow. Maybe with time and support he can overcome corruptedJustice's influence. I can hope.
I'll be looking forward to the official patch then, and put the rivalry romance on hold for now.

One line he has in the talktable, which I assume is for a Hawke who rivals him but does not romance him, he says that he cannot live after he helps the templars.

And he says well before that some thngs are worse than death. I think being trapped in your body with a spirit who is opposed to you would be one of those things. When you add his guilt over the bombing AND compound it by making him commit an act of genocide, letting him live at odds with Justice is probably the worst thing you could do to him.

I don't like forcing him to side with templar really. I just want that KISS. It's so wrong that he doesn't kiss you in friendmance ending while he talks about his and hawke's future. :crying:

Yeah, but it's like a kiss good-bye? He seems pretty resigned to death coming and he's mentally in a place that can't be too healthy, since he's aware that Justice is angry at what he's doing and he has his own doubt about killing the mages.

Of course, I'm opposed to Anders kissing anyone at that point in the game, under any circumstances. It just feels like something that wouldn't happen at a time like that, and after what he did, unless he really was saying good-bye.

I see your point but still, every LIs but him kisses Hawke. It seems unfair that "victory to us" is the last line he speaks. Not so romantic.

Actually I think the "some things are worse than death" comment was regarding tranquility, not his situation.

It was, but the fact remains that things are pretty horrible for him at that point if he's rivaled. His body was used to plant a bomb, Justice is fighting him for control and now he's committing an act he never thought himself capable of. I'm just saying that, to him, death is not the worst outcome. Especially since David and Jennifer have both stated that he wants to die after the explosion.

I think its rather humorous that even if you choose not to help Anders with his final companion mission, he still nukes the chantry anyways...

He doesn't plant the bomb when Hawke distracts the Grand Cleric; he steals that sweet ass Black Coat of Foreshdowing from the Chantry vault. He just drops the bomb in the tithe box before The Last Straw begins.
