This is awesome to say the least, it's possible to keep anders in the group, with a 100% rivalry and siding with the templars? I have to try it!! precisely in my current character, I have a templar with a 100% rivalry with anders and I'm on the act 3 right now.
Won't work.
At the current moment it's bugged. Defaults to friendship.

Here is the quote I am refering to in the thread by Luke Barrett.
On Anders' issues:
- "the endgame rivalry part is currently 'fixed' in the packages for the next patch so assuming nothing crazy happens that requires it to be cut (or it just breaks again without anyone noticing) it should be in the next patch"
So now we just need to wait and cross our fingers it works come next patch!

...and nope, nothing coming to mind. Good thing I've got time before the next patch.

I may actually have to side with the templars and rival Anders just to see this. It'll hurt me to see him so devastated, but at least I can keep him alive and get him to admit blowing up the Chantry might not have been the greatest move. I'll just have to figure out someway to justify siding with Meredith...

If you come up with something please share, because I am struggling with that myself.

The reasoning I use is that if the Chantry sees this rebellion they'll come down harder on *all* mages. In the Circle and otherwise. So it becomes a needs of the many vs the needs of the few situation.
That might be the easiest way to go Meredith... gah... =) I know that next Hawke will be pro-templar. Just don't know if I'll rivalmance Anders or romance Fenris because I haven't tried either of those. Guess I'll see when I get to act 2, if we get any date on the next patch. Might be safest to start of with Fenris and wait with Anders until the patch is out. There is always Sebastian if I get some extra time =)

Yeah, I'm leaning towards something like this merged with Hawke's desire to protect himself, his family, and his friends above a bunch of people he doesn't know. I think I may let Carver go to the templars, too. Then Hawke wouldn't want to fight against his own brother. Still going to be hard, though.

This rebellion lead to the emancipation of the mages from nearly a thousand years of oppression. If they win the struggle for freedom against the templars, the mages could maintain their independence.

Anybody know what the proper dialogue choices are to get this?? I got anders to full rivalry by the end of act 1, he killed the girl in the Dissent quest in act 2 and I got him to admit hes a monster and that he shouldnt have merged with justice. what dialogue choices do I need to make during act 3 to ensure he sides with the templars??
You can't get Anders to side with the templars because it's apparently bugged. Maybe they'll patch it in 1.03.

Key word there is if and it's a pretty big if.
And the templars are not the only thing going aginst the mages. Themselves as well as the common people are both obstacles they'll have to pass.
It takes far more than winning a war (and this is assumming they'll win) to change a 1000 years of a culture.

Sorry, but it looks like they are still working on it. I believe Luke doesn't give approximate estimations because if he's wrong, then people will jump all over him if it ends up late for some reason. I'm waiting for the patch as well because one of Varric's dialogues is bugged (for Merrill romance), one of the quests can't be completed in Act III, and the "Architect is alive even if the Warden killed him" bug with Nathaniel still needs to be addressed.

I'd say that it's better for the mages to try now than wait for another thousand years for things to change.

Then you and I disagree.
Trying now can backfire spectacularly.
They have no true leader and they have no gameplan. They have no foundation and who exactly are their allies other than themselves?
An army marches on its stomach. I'd love to know how the mages are going to give themselves supplies. (Lyrium, food, clothing, shelter [or if they don't use lyrium them using bloodmagic? Instant ally losses] ) without taking it from others (especially considering the average mage doesn't seem to know *how* to take care of themselves). How many people are actually going to feel sorry for the mages after learning about the inevitable bloodmages/abominations attacks? Not many I suspect.
No. They should've tried when they had an actual foundation in place.

And doing nothing can provide another thousand years of the status quo that mages clearly don't want if they are willing to rise up and break free from the Chantry and the templars.
