I'm not a fictional character from a fictional game made by a developer who makes fictional games?

That's AMAZING.

Of course I'm not Shepard. I'd ****** my pants if I met a Reaper, and would consider Garrus a violent criminal with a twisted sense of justice if he actually existed (contrary to the goofy sexbeast I see him as in-game). I'm out of shape, I don't have freaky techno-implants, and I would never, EVER consider gunning down a room full of people or setting them on fire with magic bullets.

However, I am pretty good with a sniper rifle.

OP's post was rather long so I'll summarize it:

Shepard is not gay like you, you gay person; Shepard is heterosexual like me. I hope Teh Gay never arrives to Mass Effect because it would destroy Bioware, but if it must, let it be through DLC so I don't have to see such abomination.

Is that what he meant?

Oh snap.  Well, he's never met Joanna, then.  She's like, Super-Lesbian.

I never play as male Shepard hell I hate playing as male heroes in RPG games
I mean he'sa guy like me but he's soo different it would feel like I'm masquerading as someone cool if I play as a guy like him :P
not that I suck or anything... we're just so different plus my personality type is usually an NPC in the game haha but that's fine

And I thought that I was Shepard...
In that case, I must be Hawke.

The user who is the Original Poster is not you. As far as I am concerned, you are not supposed to be anything.

We need a show called "I am Shepard" starring I am Weasel. We'd make millions!

@Cheez: Who cares what he thinks. remember when we talked about that topic? There will always be people who think they're right, even when they're dead wrong. You're still a human being, nothing will change that. Let's bash this thread and make him go cry to mommy.

It's good to see you back in the forums, Admiral. Actually, I don't think I was being sarcastic. That is what the OP really means, but he won't say it with those words, because it would make him look bad.

What is the problem here? I think it comes down to a matter of preference. The way I see it I'm not actually controlling and therefore am not Shepard. More like, I'm that gut feeling or instinct that tells him/her what to do or how to respond to a situation. The dialogue wheel makes sure of this; I choose a particular kind of attitude or feeling and then Shepard takes it from there.

But if players relate to their Shepard(s) on a more personal level, what's wrong with that?

You're not Shepard! Not with that attitude, you're not!

Actualy, I'd just like to say that it's good of you to stand up for Bioware's creative rights. It is their character; they wrote him/her. But that doesn't make him/her any less of a personal hero for the players.

But my Shepard is an ugly, miserable bastard. He's often sarcastic and like to ****** people off. Another's Shepard might be a galactic hero who cares for everybody. I play mine so his personality is more like mine! That makes him my Shepard.

Of course I'm not Shepard. If I was I'd be spending a lot of alone time in front of the mirror. Or at a club. Or with a Kaidan in bed with me.

Are they all supermodels like the one in your avatar? I hope so.

Seems an obvious point right, but I think it needs repeated. Bioware writers created Shepard and gave us a great game series with he/she as the protagonist. You are playing through selected slices of Shepard's life not vicarously recreating your own in the fictional future ME universe. They could never make a game that open and believable to facilitate that anyway.

So any people Shepard meets is romanceable for his/her character. This is entirely up to BW to decide as it is their character and not ours or an avatar of ourselves, but merely a great video game Intellectual Property (IP). They are only ever going to have  a few options and people should not take it as a slight if they don't get what they personally want. If they gave options for everyone then it would become a dating simulator and little else. They would have to spend so much time and money to make everyone happy in what is supposed to be a little bonus part of the game to make it seem like a movie of Shepard's life and tribulations.

I am nothing like Shepard nor will I ever be. His/her character has nothing to do with my real life. I enjoy stepping into his/her shoes (yeah I play both genders) for many hours for entertainment. I think we all need reminded of that. It is entertainment not make it my way or else. I think BW for the most part has done a great job making entertaining games. So even if I dislike most of the romance options, they still have given SHEPARD many choices which then you decide among. It isn't meant to mirror your personality, but Shepard's. None of us will ever make out with an Asari. Sorry everyone. Image IPB

So yeah I can understand disappointment in not getting preferred choices, but not ranting make it my way or else to satisfy what I want that goes on at these boards. They are going to always go for LCD in games and such. They would rather hit the target for 80% of gamers than 10%. Are you suggesting they should focus on the very small minority at possible detriment to the company as a whole? If they lose sales and then they have to shelve things or spend less on their next games which makes a spiral of bad games and maybe the demise of the studio.

I would hope they work on some romance DLCs, because then they'd be able to determine if it is worth it saleswise. At least they would recoup some of the money they spent for fanservice. Maybe everyone can win with that method. It is up to BW and not I.

Well I hope ME3 is the best of the bunch and I get entertainment out of playing as Shepard once again.

Get out. Whenever I play ME, Shepard reacts to each situation as I would, so yes, in a sense, that Shepard is molded around my personality and thought processing in the situations of ME.

For other playthroughs no, since I like to RP different kinds of people.

But basically, this is just an indirect attack at the gays who are upset at the lack of gay/bisexual LI's in ME, and while I'm a straight male and thus don't give a darn either way with that situation, I can still see this thread is in poor taste and will do nothing but cause trollin' and flamewarin'.
