I have read a lot recently and wanted to try a rogue.
Can anyone who has experimented with both builds give some feedback on which is both more powerful and more fun? On Nightmare?
The "Archery" skill tree seems kind of boring =\\
Which one is better at basic attacks? I am playing on a PS3 and obviously do not have the luxary of high control, so I want to focus on melee attacks and single target talents.

I think both bows and daggers are fun, on nightmare you probably have a little more survivability with bows and if you go bows ignore the archery talent tree all together, it kind of sucks in my opinion.

My personal favorite is DW to be honest. I've tried both, and bows get REALLY dull, REALLY fast.... By lv 10-12 yo ucan be doing easilly 1k damage with Dual Fang, 250-400 with that skill wher eyo ugo behind the enemy(Brain fart, sorry), and about 700 with Exploding... thingy...(another dagger skill that I REALLY just cant' think fo the name of...)

Back-stab and explosive strike?
I played an Archer build my first play-through it was fun and you did a lot of damage.
But I have to say that DW seems more fun and involving and I will play that later for sure.
I like that whole being everywhere aspect of DW ninja.
I wonder if there is a good way to be more resistent though, in regards to stuns and knockdowns?

regardless of which talents you choose, all rogues can use both bows and daggers and can benefit from using each in the right situation

I would go for DW with basic archery skills. For the DW, I found the assassin's talents especially useful.

Build i am using. Pretty fun. DW is too bouncy.. Archery is great this time around.

Well the thing is that with bows, your gameplay is not at all that different from Varric's. He's a damn decent archer rogue after all. But it is *far* more comfortable and easy to play with than daggers. Note that I don't speak out of experience, I haven't made an archer rogue yet, but I had an entire playthrough of Assassin / Duelist dagger rogue in Nightmare to check the trees out and draw my conclusions (it's the same tree that Varric has, so not much variation there).
Going for daggers requires a whole lot more micro management, is a huge hassle, and in general as an experience cannot be replicated by any companions. No, Isabela doesn't come even close. But my Assassin / Duelist build was some kind of a marvel. It was a completely different kind of experience of anything I had tried before, as you get plenty of experience about warriors through Aveline and Fenris, and of mages through Beth, Merrill and Anders (even though the whole Force Mage spec. does change the gameplay experience quite a bit).
But the result is that you'll be warping all over the battlefield, doing feats of damage you never thought you'd see in other playthroughs. Singleshotting assassins and lieutenants, completely raping bosses, and just having a blast in general. I'm *always* a mage player. ALWAYS. Yet DA2 is definitely the first game in a long, long while where a rogue was so damn fun it even exceeded the mage. It's highly reactive, highly skill-based, and has its whole personal pocket of 15 minutes of fame that no other toon can intrude upon. But I have to warn you this'll only start in mid-game when you start getting the proper talents.

Well part of that reason Zan Mura is mages in this game are kind of gimp in the DPS department compared to rogues and warriors. In this game mages are more a support / situational class.
