My first playthrough I let him live, then when shades killed Emeric I implicated he may have deceived me (because that's how I felt myself), so I figure the templars found him and killed him then.

What exactly was his role in Leandra's death?

Actually, he doesn't really have one; I think he's just extremely guilty over wanting to learn necromancy from Quentin. The worst he did was not reporting Quentin to the guard.

Do you guys think I should let Varric kill him?

I'd keep him alive.

I always end up killing him. Only way to keep him alive is by playing the game in a diplomatic playthrough. Everytime I bring him to face off against Quentin he ends up either dead by Varric or dead by combat because he joins Quentin.

Why should I let him live?

I used to kill him on the spot until I heard about the Varric scene, from now on I'll let him live long enough for the trusty dwarf to end him.

I know he's not guilty, but he's still a blood mage, and my mage Hawke only approves of blood mage Merrill (although I didn't actually build her as a blood mage ever xD) Plus he has a room filled with women's clothes, I found him with a woman begging for help, what am I supposed to do?

It was actually just a couple nights ago, during my fourth playthrough, that I let him live for the first time. I don't think I had ever killed him myself, but I guess I had always turned him in to the templars. So this was the first time I'd ever gone with him to Quentin's hideout, and subsequently let him live.

I played once and let him live, mainly to get some rivalry points.I don't care much either way, it's probably a coin toss scenario for me next time, just like that creepy sicko magister's son (forget his name, the creep who likes little elf girls). Generally, given that everyone else I've met in Kirkwall up to that point has been an idiot or psychotic bastard, Gascard didn't stand out enough for me to want to kill him. If anything, he was far less offensive than most people at that point.

Didn't know you could let Varric bust a cap in his azz. Might try that next time, that sounds like it would be a pretty cool cutscene. :)

I usually let him live the first time. But since Varric never leaves my team he always scores a bolt to the throat later.

Screw him. He can still turn on you and help Quentin, and he was wanting to learn secrets from a guy who goes around chopping up women for fun. He wasn't straight with Hawke in the first place, and then Hawke's mother went missing. Gascard wasn't searching for Quentin to stop him, he was searching for him so he could learn from him. Considering Quentin kills my mother, stitches her body together and reanimates her...I don't care if he wasn't directly involved. He dies. There is no way I would look past something like that concerning a family member.

Aggressive can intimidate him into fighting Quentin. It's really satisfying. Hawke asks him if he's crazy enough to side with the man that took his mother. DuPuis basically pisses his pants.

Because after the quest you can go find him and do the best *magical fisting thing* in the game...and then kill him if you like. Posted Image

4 things:

1. Does he deserve to die or live during the quest "All That Remains?"
2. How can I convince him to fight with me?
3. What happened to Gascard's mother?
4. What is the *magical fisting thing*?

1. Don't know, but you don't have to go through Lowtown if he aids you.
2. Have him help you track Quentin, don't bring Varric and be either diplomatic or agrressive
3. Nothing as far as I know.
4. If Gascard lives he is still in Darktown where you found him, bring Fenris to interrogate him.

That scene at Darktown afterwards is AMAZING. Some of the best VO acting EVER.

Indeed. I admit to letting Gascard live just to get that scene.

I always thought that what he said just didn't make sense and that he was hiding something. After all, he was a blood mage.

It's Kirkwall.  The tree in the alienage is probably a frickin' blood mage.

I didn't kill Gascard, I didn't see a reason to since Hawke can convince him (diplomatically or aggressively) that Quentin's necromancy is madness. My apostate Hawke convinced Gascard that Quentin's methods were insane, and he seemed to genuinely believe that - even writing to Hawke that he abandoned necromancy and was going to change.
