A simple cut scene when you're seen casting spells would have been enough. Templars rush you and you either bribe templars to turn a blind eye or intimidate/fight them into leaving you be would have been enuogh.

They managed to do it in BG2 where you either payed the high monetary price to be able to cast spells in the city of Athkala or fight waves of more and more powerfull mages untill they let you go because you pretty much beat the best they had. Why was it suddenly too hard in DA2. Oh yeah i forgot ... it was rushed.

Your right but in bg2 it was something different because the town was a place to mostly  adventuere and talk and not so much fight like in dragon age...

I like running around the gallows casting spells. Oh bioware, you so crazy. That should be an easter egg, if you cast spells in the gallows it just cuts to Varric explaining how Hawke was captured by the templars and died during The Harrowing. Then Cassandra saying he's lying and then a reload of the latest save.

Haha! Now theres a missed opportunity :D

They just didn't put enough time into this game though, there are so many plotholes I could drive my van through them (and the templars still wouldn't notice).

Who cares you have faster paced gameplay that more than makes up for any plot holes/story problems...

This is why the Templars leave you alone. They are so annoyed by the "faster paced" exploding body combat that they refuse to engage in combat for fear of annoying themselves to death. B)

Well Duh!  The OBVIOUS reason the Templars do not care that Hawke is a mage......

They never played Baldurs Gate 2 and thus are unaware that arresting unsanctione use of magic is possible.

Yeah I gave up on it making since once they disregarded the choices you could make in DAO. And the shenanigans regarding blood magic didn't help either.

Because:
#1) You can be very useful to them doing tasks that they can distance themselves from.
#2) They are smart enough to know you are no run of the mill mage and have a tough group to back you up and you can probably kick their assess
#3) Before they really perceive you as a threat you become a rich noble and then the champion of Kirkwall, the people love you and it would not be smart politically.

We can all dream up reasons why the Templars don't care, the fact remains that the production team didn't add content to that effect. I wonder why .... oh, they must be aiming to empower our rich imaginations. Or maybe this is just ANOTHER calculated quality cut to lessen production time and increase the profit margin.

well they could always have a $7 DLC that shows during one of the "missing" years why the templars don't care right?Posted Image

Wow, I was thinking the exactly same thing before you posted this.

The story had possibilities but in the end it was very bad writing, the only way to get through the game is by putting a part of your mind to sleep so you don't think.

*Spoilers*

Dont the say numerous times that people are looking out for you? The red irons at the start? Then when your a noble your pritty much famous enough and useful to the city to resolve the qunari issue? Then your a champion? That pritty much leaves you untouchable. The only reason meredith start killing everyone is that the artifact drives her nuts.

My only complaint is the frikkin bugs....argh!

Yeah this really bothered me too. Add to the list of major issues with the layout the story and design of this game.

Because for most of the game you hang around with Anders and he could just conscript you if he wanted to. You have diplomatic immunity!

Can anyone imagine how useless a mage would be if they couldn't cast spells in Kirkwall?

And can you imagine how interesting it would be if BioWare had attempted to incorporate that into the gameplay and story? But they didn't, too much work I guess.

Hey,  that'd be great... but,  playing a mage would be pretty dull until you paid off the equivalent of the cowled wizards.  Just saying,  and you'd have one beat up Hawke.

I agree. But shouldn't this fact have been a HUGE red flag for the writers and designers really early on in the development in this game? Hey, we want to have a story about the ruthless oppression of mages and yet... Hawke/Bethany get to run around Kirkwall blasting fireballs with impunity and no one notices or cares? This a huge plot hole.

And yet Bethany, to whom this equally applies, is taken away. And the templars are even considerate enough to wait until you return from the Deep Roads, so concerned are they about that ass-kicking...

So, it seems that the reason you can get away with using magic is... Hey look guys when you press this button something awesome happens!

So the game would be more fun - http://social.biowar...1/index/6716182

Q: Blood Magic is a forbidden art in the world of DA2, but the main
character uses it freely during the game against civilians and Templars.
How is that logical?

A: Well, sometimes you have to give up
perfect inner logic to make the game more fun. This is one of these
cases. Anyway, this can be explained by the fact that the champion is
someone who can do whatever he wants. No one is bold enough to lecture
him about that. This is kind of like when the authorities ignore certain
crimes because the criminal's aid is of great importance.

I had a similar thread earlier. The time you "save" Knight-Captain Cullen as a mage, he doesn't even realize that you're a freaking mage. Complete BS.

BioWare you officially screwed up.
