What part of pimp cane don't you people understand????

Er ... now you've done it. I either lack the vocabulary or the pop culture reference to understand that one.

Pimp Cane, for instance.

P.S Cullen is a L.I.F.E.R. Twice, he's on record being rescued from an abomination. Twice! The templars need strong leadership and overwhelming numbers to take on level 1 mages, as shown by an Act 3 cutscene for instance.

makes it even more important to gang on hawke with overwhelming numbers. templars are not depicted as cowards or indecisive. anyway, whatever their motives for not confronting hawke - they are NEVER mentioned at all.
Just a big fat ignore.

Templars know better than that.  Although, there could have been a silly Templar or three try to capture Hawke or try to extract some lyrium from him.

Hawke was totally protected from the templars for a year via bribes.  Templars are buying smuggled lyrium.  One of them quit and hangs out at night smuggling mages for lyrium money.  Another one hangs out at the hanged man and sounds like Cheech and Chong.  Another one is torturing and "lobotomising" mages for fun.  Meredith is nuts then goes totally nuts.  What does all that say about the kirkwall templars?

Then there is the Qunari scene with the Saarebas to illustrate what could happen if the templars got serious.

Part of what I like about DA2 is that not everything is spelled out directly.  Lots of stuff is implied or conveyed through notes and books and NPCs.  Flemeth for instance, she doesn't kid around.

P.P.P.S. I'm on sabbatical from NWN2 while I sort out these forums and give DA2 another run through or 2.

I admit the DA2 rogue would make a good Kaze no Kama. Hell, speedwise even the 2H warriors would!
Try archers on your 2nd run. Surprisingly effective on nightmare.

I've seen them in vids and they looked slow.  Do bows have a strong kick like Bianca?  Annihilate from a bow must be fun.  Does Vendetta work with a bow?  I didn't have much luck with archer's lance with Varric.  The opponents don't line up very often.

So let me get this straight. You guys are now whining that the game doesn't force you into the circle? Do you also complain that there is no meter to make sure you eat and drink water too?

ME2 had an NPC making fun of you guys I hope you realize.

BioWare could have had a lot of fun with this as a running gag, much like Legion when you take him to the Citadel and talk to the security clerk in ME2.

They missed a lot, sure... but the only reason we care that much is because BioWare used to give out AAA games, and now it's just average - good.

Was just playing the game and was talking to Cullen and he openly acknowledged Anders as a mage (in Act 2, thus you can't argue that it's because the Champion gets special perks) without any intention of doing anything about it. Wtf? A sad day when Bioware no longer prioritizes writing as much as they used to. Oh well.

No need to force you into the circle. There are many ways to explain why the player (as a mage) isn't apprehended by the templars. This is just blatantly lazy writing and you know it.

They don't care - for the same reason that for seven years, you don't care that you have an unstable terrorist hanging out with you.

Because it would be annoying if every time you casted a spell a mini army of templars joined the fight.

Happened in Baldurs gate, but, they were wizards who killed your entire party in a few seconds unless you paid a certain amount of gold ot be able to cast spells inside the city.

And thats why it wasn't included in DA2.
Games are meant to be fun, not frustrating.

That was one of the points I mentioned in my thread here. It was immersion breaking...

i try to max auto attack damage and damage on stunneds. zero points in archery for the first 12 points.
i think the kick comes from criticals.

three archers + tank or two + tank + haste mage with cc. seems to work fine.

and templars shouldn't object. :)

You could kill them untill they stop spawning or you could pay for the license to use magic.

BG setting was very excellent. It was immersive and complex with plenty of FREEDOM. DA is just bad. Vomit quality. Zombie approved.

Edit: And of course you could just not use magic on the streets. You could do buffing indoors and move out to PWN stuff.

There is no such license to use magic in the Dragon age Universe. And going indoors and outdoors just to buff is tedious and annoying.

Would you have preferred not being able to play as a Mage?

I stopped playing after I killed tons of bandits in Kirkwall, recruited Anders (an abdomination), made a butchery of Templar HQ, recruited Merrill (a blood mage and elf), and ran around in Kirkwall without none giving a s* about maleficar, abdomination, me (mage too), and captain of the guard running around. How it is explained is that Aveline holds godly amount of power in the city, which in turn does not make sense.

The lack of immersion was bigger than in any other game I know. I still say DA2 qualifies in RPGs as what Plan 9 from Outer Space qualifies in movies.

Edit: Oh it could be explained too by saying Hawke holds a big shiny Mark of Destiny over his head and everyone seeing is just "ZOMG play cool now or else they press a button and peeps begin to explode." However for some reason some don't see it and keep trying to mess with me.

You wear robes.
You have a magic staff.
You shoot fire.
You cast spells.
You use blood magic (some do).
You kill templars in droves.
All mages in Kirkwall are either prisoners of the circle or on the run - You have a mansion.

Complete story fail.

You go get a stereotypical blood mage elf and she rents a house from Kirkwall. She have fixed clothing but for some reason it is fine for her to look like Dalish Mage instead of city elf commoner.

-_-

Why is it that so many people seem to think this way and assume that just because it wasn't approached in a very plausible fashion that the only other solution is to remove the chance for the conflict to ocurr  in the first place?

Something about Bioware's idea of "If it can't be fixed, it'll be removed" ala ME2.

Don't suppose it's occured to anyone that there are mages kicking around Kirkwall? It's a big city and if the templars don't mind someone who's obviously a mage then maybe they think that the person in question is a sanctioned mage.
