I just turned on my 360 to finish up Leliana's Song again which I had restarted last night to unlock all achievements now that I have the 360 connected to this Bioware account.  Everything was fine last night, and I unlocked a few achievements before going to bed.  Turned it on just now, and I needed to accept and download an update.  I did.  Then DAO came on only the option to load saved games is unavailable.  I went to Dashboard, and my DOA achievements have been erased.  It also reset all of my changes in Options like disabling Persistent Gore and messing with volume settings.  Is it possible to get my saved games back?  How do I keep this from occurring in the future?  I do not want to lose everything each time there is a new update I need to install.  Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

Updates shouldn't do anything to your save games; though that's not to say they can't mess things up. You don't mention what sort of update it is, because seeing that you have Leliana's Song I'm thinking it cannot be a new patch for DAO (or even 1.04). Is it a firmware update?

Things to consider:

(1) have you checked your HD (I assume you have one) for your save games?

(2) are you using your previous Gamertag? (Have you signed in to your Gamertag?)

That's what I thought, but nevertheless, DAO stuff we deleted but my DA2 and all other game stuff is still there. I did check my hard drive (included in my particular 360), and my DAO stuff was all gone though all my other game saves were still there.

As far as I know (I am fairly new to XBox live - I wasn't going to do it because I didn't want my kids getting online without me knowing about it, but I finally broke down to play the DA2 demo and get the bonus things by signing up for email newsletters, etc.) I am signed in to the correct Gamertag and everything. I have played so far today - Darkspawn Chronicles and now Leliana's Song, and my achievements are showing up here on Bioware's site.

But I have a new problem since this update this morning. For some reason, I am absolutely unable to assign a talent/potion, etc., into one particular slot on any character. It's X when you hold RT. When I try, it either does nothing at all or puts the talent I want on X without holding RT. Very frustrating morning. *sighs*

Sorry to hear that; that is indeed strange but it also seems little can be done to get the saves back.

You can set parental controls on the 360. If you're concerned about your children using the 360 (online or off I believe) I would suggest checking out the manual for the relevant options.
