Sort of like you've always had to, yes, the only difference being now there's no checkbox for subscribing while replying with the standard form.

Doesn't work all that well.

I select "Your Posts" and all I get is a 7 page list of the same thread 15 times where each link is the same and takes you to the first post and not your post so you get to manually go through all 30 pages of the thread to find where you posted to start looking for replies.

It completely boggles the mind that BioWare would actually look at this forum software and agree to pay for it when even the quickest glance of the features points to the fact that it is absolutely garbage.

You could probably hand "HTML for Dummies" to a random person on the street and pay him/her 500 dollars to make the same webpage completely devoid of any basic forum features and a major portion of the website being unusable (Character integration).

It's no wonder they overcharged on DLC and made it confusing so people would pay more for the game. They had to make up for the price of the forum software and the extra man hours it took to bring the software to an even remotely usable state.

Yes it wiped my entire post.  So I'm typing this again.  In note pad first.  And now I'm not as polite.

TO RECAP

WORST WEBSITE EVER.

I have an EA, Bioware and Dragon Age account.  NONE of them work here.

DAYS to create a new account as none of the above work and the link account function locks you in an invalid validation loop.

Account lasted long enough to take my game key for my collector's edition and guess what:

NO ACCESS TO TOOLSET
NO ACCESS TO BONUS CONTENT
NO ACCESS TO PATCHES.
No access to the pre Nov 30 in game item (the edge).

I'd love to know where under 'What's New, Profile, My Content, etc....' is the patches, bonus content, in games items, etc...are.  I checked every single link manually and NONE of them send you as this website CLAIMS that after you register you gain access to them.

Logging into my game NONE of the bonus content options are available.

And yes I'm playing this game even though it takes 45 minutes to enter a room.

Please help.  I cannot believe that developer of a game with such a high reputation (and fun factor when it actually works) created this craptastical apocryphal website that they force you touse in order to get access to nothing but more frustration.

Thanks!

Thanks. Now does anyone know if there's a "read thread from first unread post" button?

I can't even post on any of the Dragon Age forums - no post button, no option to quick reply, nothing. Apparently this is a common bug - hooray. Delightfully frustrating, since I would like to actually, you know, discuss the game.

Seriously, you paid for this crap? Why? You can get better functioning forums for free.

Yes. There isn't. It has been requested several times already.

Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy.  I would however like to point out several items:

  • Forum search has been re-enabled for over a week.
  • managing characters is expected to be re-enabled later this week, once the backend server issues at EA are resolved
  • 95% of the character updating issues we have investigated were due to the game not having uploaded the data - nothing to do with the website. Workarounds have been posted elsewhere.
  • 70% of the users of this site are running with < 1500px wide displays, and the layout is optimised for that group.
  • this forum software was purchased - BioWare is not reinventing the wheel, we are avoiding doing so.
Overall, this site is a work-in-progress, and BioWare is definitely listening to any and all feedback.  Thigns are being fixed/improved as fast as humanly possible.

Wow, that is so sad, you had a very good site with forums with good search features/dev trackers and you paid to get this piece of CRAP.

I'm not against change when the change is actually good, this one lacks many of the original functionality. Search feature is weak, no dev tracking button for posts and while 70% of your users may run with <1500px wide displays, why lock the other 30% out, your original site could be easily customized for almost any width.

I'm going to go on a ledge here and say this smells of corporate/high management edicts. I'm working for a large multi-national corporation and I see that all the time so maybe it's tinting my vision here, but it's almost like our documentation project, we've finally found a solution the sys-admins like for documenting procedures, we've been using Twiki for over a year now. It matches our needs, great for collaboration, good rev control, we've tweaked it to match the auditor's requests and it's open source so cost is minimal but now our VP is insisting we use the corporate document management solution. A bloated full fledged document management piece of CRAP, with exorbitant licensing costs as well as a horrendous interface and our VP's only argument is we've paid millions for this tool so you better use it!!!!

Anywoot, just want to add my voice to a lot of other folks here and say that until you at least match the functionality of the old forums, you shouldn't even be using this piece of CRAP!

And this beauty from the FAQ would make sense if you didn't shut down a perfectly working site/forum and try to force feed us this piece of CRAP!

Why doesn't the site/forum have feature ____?

We unfortunately have a limited amount of time and resources to spend on this site - many features would take too long or too many servers to implement, and will likely never be added. That said, we are actively looking for new features to add. Feel free to suggest new features in the forums - our developers do read and consider every suggestion!

Gotta agree. I fail to see the point of wasting money to move from a good forum that nobody had any complaint about, to something atrocious like these ones.

If it's only to throw money out of the window, there is much better way to do it.

Well, my first post on these here boards and probably my last post too: this website is too awful.

How anyone can pay money for a new website that has less functionality than the existing one escapes me - sure looks like some corporate idiocy. Anyway, if Bioware wants to throw it`s money out of the window and annoy paying customers they sure found a way ...

Excuse my...well...trolling basically...

I have nothing constructive to say about this but if Bioware wants to know what the customer thinks, then as a customer I have to say: I too hate the new forums and want daforums.bioware.com back.

You just feel lost in here without a proper search function - all the let's-act-like-facebook stuff all around and topics vanishing form the starting page within 4 minutes and no way to find them again should you have forgotten to subscribe or to remember the title word-for-word because you will not find it with this search function otherwise.

Actually I'm thinking of trying some fansite forums if this doesn't improve quickly...

More seriously, people largely prefered the layout and colour of the old forums. Why didn't you simply copy it ?

That depends on which colour scheme you are referring to. There's a general website layout, plus ones for  BioWare's games.

The patch is available under the 'my games' section on the left. You can view a character profile by going to the games tab and then clicking on the appropriate player profile. For bonus content, check 'your registered game promotions' under 'profile'.

First off, I'll let this image speak for itself: http://img412.images...owareforums.jpg

Let me explain whats going on. I use Opera, which is notoriously *the* strictest rendering browser out there, your HTML/CSS/coding needs to be 100% correct, if not we get errors with Opera. Awesome browser, only problem is, there are a ton of slacker web developers that don't know their ass from Internet Explorer. Notice anything with that screen shot? Let me give you a hint, there is an "[image]" in the middle of the textbox used for writing a reply. Why is it there? Because your coding is wrong. That's right: the basic core function of a forum: post a reply, doesn't work right.

Second problem, notice all that wasted space? This was taken from my cheap computer with a 22" monitor running at 1680x1050 ( hardly a rare format now-a-day, if anything, it is a dated resolution in the HD era), Yeah... that's crappy.

Furthermore, the search function sucks. I searched dexterity for the beta-hotfix George was working on... No where to be found, and the old site is all closed down *le sigh* /facepalm.

Character achievements?! Meh, who cares, 95% of us are cheating anyhow...

There is not one positive I can pull from this site.

Thanks for trying to help.

Patches under My Games: It may be for you.  It's blank for me.  I did manage to find the patches manually.
AFTER I did that...they appeared under My Games.

And here is my registered game promotions:

"

Your registered game promotions
If any of your registered games or promotions are not showing on this page, please visit Customer Support at http://help.dragonage.com.
Please note that only content registered from the Social Web Site and
in-game will appear - any content purchased through XBox Live or the
PSN will not appear on this page.
PC

Xbox

Any content purchased through XBox Live will not appear in this list.

PS3

Any content purchased through the PSN will not appear in this list."

I got zip.

I already tried that link above.  It's useless.  Although I did sign up for 'if this is updated' hopefully it will be updated BEFORE the deadline.  I'd really like to get all the things that EA/Bioware promised.  Instead I still have nothing.

What was your complaint with the previous forum setup that was so monstrous the only viable solution was to move to one that deleted all the useful features normally seen in customer service forums? You know... like a search function that could search beyond thread titles. Or a function that lets you click to the first unread post. Or a function that lets you click to the first developer post.

I've made my own post about it, but I seriously disagree with XBox 360 users having to 'Register' their games in order to use the site. Unlike PC games, XBox 360 games don't have Product Codes and most retail establishments that I know of do a lot of second hand retail meaning that if someone bought your game first, you're screwed. I have a first hand copy of the game, signed into the site previously and was able to post on all forums, got the free DLC etc but suddenly I have to register. I register all of my PC games, but not my XBox 360 games. Just seems silly as XBox 360 doesn't work the same way as PC game. I can't do anything with this site other than update my profile, etc, post to forums. I can't get DLC here because I need to get it from XBox Live. Two completely different formats.

Outside of that, the site is badly set up in that half the page is blank, but from what I understand this is because Bioware has it set for users with wide screens. I have one at home, but I access this site only at work as I just don't have time while I'm at home but I have a full lunch break free here...just saying.

I guess people just don't like Grey. I like the colors.

I like the "idea" behind the groups and projects.

I like the Character tracking thing from DA - Although it has issues but hopefully will get better.

What I don't like is the functionality.
* it is a pain to keep track of postings.
* On the "Whats New" page it shows the latest posted topics, but not what feed they are in, like the nwn site.
* Almost impossible to know if there is a new reply to a topic - the email notification is unreliable at best.
* 90% of the groups created are going to die off, simply because no one knows they exist.
* Most of all - I miss my "My Topics" where is was easy to track responses to a feed simply by going to the site. Now I have to check my subscriptions, then I have to go to my groups and check there. And if you forget to subscribe to a topic - forget finding it later.

Well, I've no problem with grey itself. But the colour theme in general is not pretty, and the worst is the "clear font on dark background", while the opposite is easier on the eye.

This is a myth established by a laack of alternatives as far as the printing press goes. This current layout isn't optimal, nor either is white on black, but black on white is actually not a very good combination either.
