I think the glitch is probably zoning-related (i. e., you are out of his native zone, so his special creature properties aren't triggered), but I can be wrong, of course. If I am correct, it can be easily fixed by positioning Bysmor a bit further uphill.

I really want Luke Barrett to see this one. He usually reacts to glitch reports here. Besides, if my memory serves me well, he's especially fond of this part of the quest

That's the only instance this glitch occured, indeed. I think my testing can be considered quite thorough, as during a solo archer run I've hit a whoooooole loooooot of different enemies at maximum bow range (usually to separate them from the minions, etc.).
