Because the intention with Shadow Broker and Arrival are to bridge the gap between the end of ME2, the suicide mission, and the beginning of ME3. If it were me in charge neither one would be available to complete until after the suicide mission.

It's because after horizon the VS goes on a secret mission. This mission is the arrival dlc

I think the fact that an actual bioware rep has not confirmed the VS is not in the game in any capacity tells me they are...that and they fact they are being really tight lipped with this dlc...by the way I say this as someone who is NOT a VS fan...

It's probably set in a system unlocked after Horizon, like LotSB.

It's the Xbox disc change. I don't think you can access Arrival before Horizon because the location isn't on disc one.

Arrival doesn't take place in any previous location in ME2 (I'm mostly sure).

Why can we play arrival before the suicide mission?

Why can we play Arrival before Eden Prime mission in first ME?

I wish it was because of the VS but I think it's just because, as others have said, the rest of the map opens up then. While it would make sense to me to have it post-SM only we have to remember there might be people out there that lost their crew *and* their Shep. Probably from a RP pov they would want to do all DLC prior to the SM in that case.

But yeah as to why it takes place post horizon it would make sense if the VS is involved in the mission...but...you know what..I actually cannot think of any other story based reason for it it be placed after horizon.

BioWare did confirm in the 10-minute GameSpot preview that the VS would, in fact, NOT make an appearance in Arrival.

Actually JKoopman, you are mistaken. At no point during the ME2 Arrival DLC preview/live-demo with Gamespot does Mr. Houston confirm or deny that the VS will appear.

I believe given the popluarity of the VS and the idea of VS DLC for ME2 coupled with the fact that Arrival will only be accessible post Horizon (i.e. after the initial VS meeting); it's quite possible for the VS to reappear.

It's messing with the consistency. Just force the player to do it after the SM. And if they can't bother to complete the game at least once, they are not worthy.

AFAIK it's been confirmed that he/she WON'T be in it, and I agree the reason Arrival isn't accessible before Horizon is probably simply because the starting point is a location that's on disc 2 of the X360 version.

Also, I'll probably have to avoid this board for a month or two after Arrival comes out because of all of the howling from VS fans...

I though the IGN preview only made it clear that the VS does not appear in the 20 minutes or so they got to play?

I don't think disc space is the issue. Like other DLC it's in a brand new system that won't be there unless you install the DLC anyway. Actually the Arrival systems stand out even more because they are on the complete other side of the Galaxy Map all by itself from the rest of it.

It's a storyline thing it seems although that doesn't mean VS will be involved. It could be Harbinger that appears so you can't get into it until you've had your first encounter with him at Horizon. Or something like that.

Isn't it because we become sure the Collectors are working for a certain ageless race during the mission on Horizon? Since the DLC is about that same race returning, it would kind of mess up the early part of the story if we did Arrival before Horizon?

I could also be confused about what we know when. :-)

Actually it seems like Shepard and Illusive Man know about that from the start of the game. There's no big confirmation scene as far as I know, although they have definite data after you're done with the Collector Ship.

I am quite sure the DLC will be more epic than LOTSB and be a nice epilogue to ME2. I don't know why some people here are saying it won't be a bridge. Just because it is enabled after Horizon does not mean it won't lead up to ME3; that was done just for convenience. However, if the VS is not in it, I agree with your predicition. The BSN can lack class sometimes (or most times) and so there will be a lot of complaining and Mac hate going around.

That said, I find it hard to believe it won't at least mention the VS, as it seems we will travel to Arcturus (yeah!!!!, that was on my wishlist for DLC) as indicated by the end dialogue by Kenson at the end of Gamespot's preview of Arrival (I could be wrong though). Being the HQ of the Alliance, the VS must be mentioned somewhere there.

It's almost a certainty that we'll end up on Arcturus Station. That's where we'll meet Hackett, I guess.

Given that it's cheaper than LotSB, I don't think that's particularly likely. I'll be pleasantly surprised if this is big, but I'm keeping my expectations low, at least as far as quantity goes. In terms of quality, though, it's got quite the legacy to live up to. Kasumi, Overlord and LotSB have all been excellent, so this better be good too.

Yes, it's less expensive than Shadow Broker, but I think it's also fairly safe to assume that we won't be getting another information hub like the broker's ship. Squad-mate power respec, mining locations, dossiers, videos, etc. All of that stuff took time to make and added value to the dlc. I think that we might get a few minor nuggets of information, but this mission is going to be more in keeping with Overlord than LotSB. Which I'm really ok with, so long as it makes sense. Something I feel dubious about at the moment.

Didn't the guy in the demo for Arrival say you can play the new DLC right after Freedom's progress (if you choose to)?  You can play this anytime in game.

I really don't understand why Bioware shy to do that. Is there any people who deleted all their saves and are going to install ME2 just to play Arrival?

I wouldn't be surprised. Also, don't forget that LOTS of people don't finish their games at all.

It probably requires you to go to an area that is only on disc 2. Basically everything (besides the suicide mission) is on disc 2 after Horizon.

Shadow Broker is a good example you have to speak to Liara on Illium, which is accessable after Horizon and is on disc 2. Arrival probably requires the same thing.

That is a really good point. Isn't Horizon where we first see the Harbinger "take over" the Collector?

**SPOLERS**
From what I saw at the end of the 20min preview this is significant.

SPOILER!

The scene in the gameplay preview I saw pretty much mirrors the scene with the VS and Harbinger
