This is my first time playing as a mage.  On my first playthrough I was a warrior and I beat the game on normal.  For my mage though I had to crank it up to hard difficulty because I am absolutely dominating with blood magic.

Pretty much all I have to do is have Aveline taunt enough enemies tto get them clustered up, and then use hemmorage and they explode to bloody little pieces.
Aveline's stamina is so high that I have pretty much unlimited magic resources since I can just use sacrifice when my health is low.

It's pretty damn fun I have to admit, more fun than playing with a warrior.  Are all mage talent trees this crazy good or is it just blood mages?

Bloodmagic, IMO, is a wreckingball if you know how to spec your character properly. I'd go into speciffics, but I find far too much enjoyment in toying with diffferent specs that I'd hate to ruin anyone's fun by just blatantly saying "This is the best way to spec your Bloodmage Hawke..." That being said though, A Spirit Healer/Bloodmage combo is an unstopable force as the health regen from the "Spirit Healer" sustained ability isn't considered "conventional healing" and heals your character just as well as if Bloodmagic were disabled.

In a single player game, there's really no such thing as "over powered," but the fact that you're required to use heath as your casting pool is suppose to be a drawback, but if you use the game's mechanics to negate this (which is not hard to do), then Bloodmagic is thee closest thing to overpowered that you can get.

Blood magic is fantastic. Blood mage Hawke is much less overpowered than vanguard/reaver warrior Hawke or assassin/shadow rogue Hawke, though.
