"Imports that have half the crew dead are relatively rare and usually intentional"

How do you know that? Have you done some polling or something to back this up?

I've cited this statistic like five times in this thread, so why not six? WHY NOT SIX?

Apparently bioware released some stats for ME2. Among them was the fact that 14% of squad members die in the end game, on average. This means that most people have only one or two dead squad members. I'm not going to do the rest of the math here for you again. Math.

Edit: haha, crosspost! <3

Like five times or five times?  Image IPB

I will give you this, your source is very good.  Much better than Mr.Cheese's polls.

Cults?

Ok, let me get this straight.  Mass Effect has been called the "Star Wars" of video games.   People who are attached to Garrus and Tali are attached for the same reasons they got attached to, say, Han Solo. The people that wanted Han Solo, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, C-3P0, R2D2, and any of their other favorite characters to come back in Return of the Jedi were...

cult members?

I don't know, I was two at the time of the first movie's release.  Even though I wasn't there, I don't recall hearing any stories about internet forums clogged with obsessive romantic thoughts of Han Solo by both sexes.

That may be because the internet didn't exist at that time.  Since you were 2, and I was older, you may not understand how popular all these characters were at the time.  And that's the point.  The characters are popular and people want to see them again.  It's going off the deep end to call them a "cult".  But that often happens in a debate - you start to see insulting terms for groups of people that don't agree with one another.  That way you get to dismiss their point of view and make yours look more rational or right or important.

Calling people who like Tali, Garrus, or any other character in Mass Effect a "cult" is silly.

First, I was partly jesting when I called them a cult.  Cult was a bit of hyperbole.  Secondly, I wasn't referring to fans who simply want these characters back.  Heck, I want to see Tali back.  Lastly, even the game makes fun of Tali fanatics.  There is a conversation between a Quarian and a Turian in Eternity on Ilium that totally mocks Tali fans

Interesting isn't it?  That Bioware throws a little scene like that into a game acknowledging the fans and yet Elite still holds the opinion that even though Bioware knows that characters are popular they would scrap them all anyway...

Don't get me wrong...they pretty much scrapped Ashley and she was extremely popular.

Bioware hates you and all of their fans and is writing out all of the characters in favor for more Liara.

edit: This bear is affecting me in many ways.

And here I thought the Shadow Broker DLC and potential romance (assuming you romanced her in the ME1, which I didn't..at least through the save) was a response to the Liara fans who were pissed that Liara's cameo role was as bad or worse than Ashley's.

Must this thread pop up so much?

It really isn't that much work to bring in all the surviving teammembers: just assume they are all alive and write ME 3 like that with a few new faces. If they're dead, they don't show up. Do you really think it would be easier to build a whole new squad from scratch, find a bunch of voice actors again, and still have all 12 or so surviving team mates in cameo roles? Absolutely ludicrous. Besides just ignoring the entire team is a huge spit in the face to storytelling and what they are trying to accomplish here where your actions matter.

And whether or not they are loyal is hardly going to make a difference, outside of maybe a line or two of thanks from them.  The only one that should matter is whether or not Tali is exiled.

Are you sure they scrapped her?  As far as I'm aware they kept the VS out of ME:2 because they wanted a big role for them in ME:3.

They scrapped VS for ME2. We can only wonder what ME3 will look like. But I'd say the photo on the desk is probably a good sign.

You have failed. We will find another way.

I got a better one.

You struggle against inevitability. Dust struggling against cosmic wins.

I'm waiting for the inevitable 'Bioware caved to the Harcore Fans/Old Fans/True Fans'

If nothing else it'll be good for a laugh.

Also these bumps are cool because it draws attention to just how silly a certain poster looks stating his 'Facts' and 'Logic'...

Bioware wont sell ME3 on 3 or 4 disks. The Royalties that Microsoft would demand would make it too unprofitable. Especially with EA running things. Even than ME2 didn't even come close to filling the Max Compacity of both Disks combined.

If ME3 is just as long or longer than ME2 than it should fit on 2 disks just fine. Especially since Bioware doen't rely as heavily on CGI as many other large disk games tend to do.

According to Bioware (and the deleted material that was found on the discs), ME2 had several pieces chopped out to barely make capacity on both discs. The whole concept of being able to go for any squadmate at any time (including Legion, who could apparently be gotten right off the bat) was scrapped in order to squeeze all the content in.

I don't believe Bioware would make a 360 game that spans three discs, but I wanted to mention the point about disc space.

Didn't we establish that variables don't and constants aren't?

Either way... Midget... I..

Wilson was a squadmate. Ponder that before jumping to conclusions.

The variables still exist and there is a lot of room for BioWare to screw the pooch if they were to try to make a full-time squadie out of, for example, Garrus. Wouldn't you be upset if he was back, but all he wanted to do was calibrate? Or he was back. but acted like your night of awkward and ill-advised sex never happened?

Don't get ahead of yourselves. We don't know what this means and we don't know if it will be a good thing or a frustrating thing.

Sure, because Bioware would give Garrus the Wilson treatment...

What could go wrong with that?

Yes, if you're wondering, comparing Garrus to Jenkins is completely laughable.  If you're not wondering, well, I'm telling you anyway - completely laughable.

Jenkins = guy we knew for all of maybe 5 minutes.
Garrus = squadmate for potentially over 80 hours of play and has a rabid fanbase in ME society.
