Now, I have seen that there are obvious consequences of Hawke taking his sister with him as shown by your mum in the little family reunion before you depart, as she is obviously concerned about her children and the possibility of them contracting the Blight - which Bethany can do. Now, if Anders is in your party you have the option of sending Bethany to become a member of the Grey Wardens, as this is the only cure for the Blight.
I thought this would be a pretty cool thing to see a family member become a member of the Wardens, especially with Bethany since she seems to me to want to take the middle ground between hating the templars (obviously) but also cautious about joining the Circle. However, upon reading a bit further into the consequences of her joining the Wardens if she joins Hawke in the DRE, you only see her again once for the rest of the game unless you can play the Finding Nathaniel quest - which I unfortunately cannot do since I am a first-time player of Dragon Age and have not played Origins.
So - it seems that I am being forced into leaving Bethany behind and seeing her being forced into the Circle, just so that I can have the opportunity to re-recruit her later on...why have a pretty interesting optional path for a party member blocked by an optional quest that can only be played if you played the original game!?!
