I heard there was some talk awhile back that a unfinished/buggy quest was found in the files of DAO where he took on a new name and helped refugees, but I have never heard that confirmed or not. Was that true, or just a rumor? I also heard that in the original development for DAO he was going to be a companion and become a Warden through the Right of Conscription, but it was later tossed out. But this could also just be rumor. Either way, it would've been interesting to see nonetheless.

I finished my first playthrough a few days ago and I was sad that there was no return of Jowan, or any mention of him. Especially if you told him to run so he wouldn't have to face execution. He was probably one of my favorite non-playable characters in DAO and I always hoped they would do more with him. I think the redemption seeking blood mage would be a interesting thing to play on. Or even if he went to the next level and became something of a sanctified blood mage- and found a way to turn his powers around and become a miracle worker of sorts. Taking the self induced pain inflicted on his body through blood magic to help others as some kind of punishment.

No, it's true. Jowan's working under the name "Levyn" and helping folks. You can get it to run on the PC. Dragon Age Wiki has instructions for that. Or you can watch it on youtube.
And I keep hoping for a Jowan cameo. Selling that bastard out and seeing Irving's resulting ruthlessness really screwed my Warden over. But, I guess, if that quest had triggered properly, his story would have (possibly) been happily finished. So a cameo isn't so much needed.

I loved him. And now I would totally like to see him in DA3 - maybe as a companion? Doesn't matter - I adore his VO!

Aww, I would have liked to see Jowan too.
And I almost miss Desmond Askew voicing every NPC in the game... lol!

Yeeeah.
That was always the freakiest thing. "Hey, isn't that -- Jowan? And that. And that guy. Oh, and him. This is really weird. Huh."

The best were the guys arguing outside of Lothering:
"I saw you take the supplies from my cart!"
"No I didn't!"
Just arguing with himself in the same voice. XD It took me a while to figure out what was going on; it was hilarious.
I always sort of liked Jowan's voice, though. Which is weird, but I do.

Oh man, I would have loved Jowan to come and tell Anders off - "You're an idiot Anders. 'I' was repentant. You're just some too bit zealot with a hard on for the Chantry."
Then they duke it out - Jowan kills Anders (twice) - and Jowan and Hawke hang out and drink mojitos.

Talk about VO. It took me a while to get over the fact that the male Hawke's voice is the same as many of the evil pricks I wanted to kill in Origins.

I wanted to like Jowan so badly. Especially since I played Origins as a mage. I just... I couldn't, he was too pathetic and had this whiny face and even more whiny voice. Still, with perhaps a redesign on the massive level of Isabela's, I think he'd make a great playable character in a future game.
I wonder what other random Origins characters they might consider for future games?

It's good that Jowan can keep his greasy haired self all to himself.
He's such a lame character.

This.
But about Jowan...why do people like him so much? I prefered that mage in the fade (DA:O) whose name I've forgotten. Neril? Nerm? Nermon? Neail? Munan?

Niall was cool but he also died, so yeah that takes him out the picture. Since I seemed to convince Eamon to send Jowan back to the Circle I doubt he's doing well. Even with the First Enchanter Irving alive there, I doubt he'd have allowed Jowan to still go about as a blood mage. Jowan by now would likely be a Tranquil or have been killed by the command of Gregor or Cullen who you left in charge.
If you let Jowan go free? I doubt his guilt would have let him just hide out. He'd have either hunted down his love who would have led him to his death. That or Jowan would have returned to the circle on his own accord. Jowan no matter what seemed to care more about all the trouble he and his blood magic has caused others around him than caring about his own life for survival.
