Yes.

That's probably the most common resolution nowadays, so I would be absolutely flabbergasted if it didn't.
No, the most common resolution is 1024 x 768, though gamers skew higher.

A few weeks ago I bought a 23.5" monitor (1920x1080) for $159. They're cheaper now than they're ever been.Achromatis wrote...

Me too, I didn't want to buy anything bigger I'm happy with that resolution although I could have bought a larger monitor if I'd wanted to.

back when i was a kid, it was a wonder if we saw 800x600. hell 640x480 was a rare sight. the usual game came in320x240 and that was epic. *note: i'm from 91*

me too I was born before there where home computers...though not that long before I started gaming at the age of 11 in 1985 and can remember when 640x480 with chunky sprites of more than 2 colors was considered great graphics.
I guess that's why I consider 1280x1024 plenty high enough resolution & have never felt the need to buy a bigger monitor.

19-inch with 1280x1024, 19-inch with 1440x900, or 25-inch with 1920x1080 on the other hand will look rather crap compared to the combination mentioned earlier.

With LCDs there are only 1 or 2 good resolution on it (at least the one I have). Anything less than 1680x1050 looks blurry. I am waiting on my HD 5870 to arrive before getting a new LCD with higher resolution so I can run the game on its native resolution without slow downs.
Depends on your monitors native ressolution with LCD screens mines 1280 x 1024 so it doesn't look at all blurry on my screen. If I play at 1024 x 768 it looks blurry this is because the monitor has to scale the image at non-native resolutions (or but a black border round it).
I bought a screen with this native resolution because I though it plenty good enough & so I could enjoy the latest games with all features turned up and good frame rates for some time to come. I have a nVidia 295GTX.
