1) The rules are convoluted-seeming for someone who's new to the game and hasn't played anything D&D-based before. Don't worry, if you don't understand something you can post here, and you'll pick it up.
2) The Original Campaign (OC) is relatively easy - as a new player, you may still have problems at certain points, but in general it doesn't matter if you make a mistake building your character due to lack of rules knowledge because it's not going to make the game incompletable.
3) Check out the NWN2 wiki. It's actually pretty lacking, but most of the basic stuff you might need to know can be found there.
4) Check out the stickied threads on these forums. There are certain frequently-asked things and whatnot on them.
And welcome!

To connect to a persistent world is fairly easy as all the custom content I mentioned will generally be automatically downloaded for you as you connect and placed into all the proper directories. To learn more about them, they usually have a website where you can read up on the lore and changes/features.

Those PW's sound like they work a bit like an MMO, basically you have a world and you go around doing whatever you want right? But the custom content offered, is it heavily party based or is there good solo fun? I'm asking this because none of my friends even have this game (they play WoW) and while i'm okay with teaming up with "randoms" in certain occasions, between that option and soloing, i'd prefer soloing.
Basically it's how much the online has to offer to someone in this situation that will be the main factor in whether i end up buying it or not. Sorry for barging in on your thread OP but i thought that you might also be interested in whatever reply comes from this!

I'm thinking about buying the game on Steam, and instead of making a new thread i'll ask this, in relation to dethia's helpful reply:

Well, I just bought it on steam, and while I cannot answer any of your questions, I can tell you that the single player (all I have yet to experience) is great fun. I really love the game, while the controls are my only issue. If you do get it I will play online with you. Add my steam "Aiomon"

If solo play suits you then find your way to the vault. There is a huge amount of solo play there to suit all needs. If you like the sandbox approach of the PW then perhaps White Plume mountain is for you. If you fancy something more story based then there is an awful lot of playtime to be had. When you come to buy you will need to have all the expansions installed, certainly for the more recent mods. I think the steam offering packages them but I have not looked.
Welcome to NWN2 to you and Aiomon.
