dogs name and haste issue?

i dont know if anyone else on 360 has tried using haste on their hawke mage but mine casts it and it almost instantly wears off and i have haste and great haste unlocked. it works fine if anders casts it so its gotta be hawke and for some random reason my dogs name keeps changing back to dog!! ive done the little mission to change it at the start and this is my 2nd play through where his nname randomly changes anyone else run into these issues/

I read somewhere that magic resistance counts against Haste's duration.
After beating the game with a mage!hawke and a high-magic-resist Aveline I believe it. By endgame my upgraded haste would last like four seconds on Hawke, and not much longer on Ave, but would persist for some time on Varrick. This would seem to correlate with their magic resistance.
No problems with dog names so far noted though.
