Just curious how did they draw everything you see on baldurs gate? Like the stuff your characters walk on?

its all 2d. I'm sure almost all of it was drawn by hand, colored digitally, path mapped so you don't walk over buildings and things are transparent... saved in the correct format and imported into the game. all the tools to do this are out there you just need to look for them. sorry i cant help you more i don't have the correct hard drive in to tell you the program names and it's been a long time. good place to start looking and learning is http://www.pocketpla...d=137&Itemid=96 and the gibberlings3

All i know is it uses infinity engine... so if anyone knows how to use that, that would be awesome.
All i want to do is make my own NPC.

The area maps are just large 2D pictures associated with an array of "legal" walking coordinates. Someone who played the game long enough can easily spot identical recurrent elements (trees, rocks) the artists used more than once to compose the landscape.
The NPCs and other characters, including beasts, have a different way of creation. They appear to be 3D models, pre-rendered and saved as many 2D images to make up all possible postures and animations, including separating different elements of the body, to reuse most of the character pictures when changing the weapon for example.
