So I have this area I have not worked on in a while. I tried to open it today and ...crash. Toolset closes. Hmm, this area must have gotten corrupted some how. No big deal, I'll just import a copy from a backup file. I open a backup file and try to load the area ...crash. toolset closes. What? restart computer, open even earlier backup file, load area ...crash. toolset closes.
After several more tries, it seems that every version of this area crashes my toolset. It's been a while since I opened this area, so quite a few changes have been made to the mod. Any one know what might make something like this happen?

Well since it has been some time you should try to recall if you used any custom content to make the area that you no longer have. That is merely one possibility, it is of course possible the files were corrupted somehow though seems unlikely.

hmm, it's the darndest thing. It seems to be just the one area. It is a 16x16 exterior. No custom content. Every version I have makes the toolset crash. I also tried duplicating, and changing the name. I exported the area to a new mod and it crashed. I went over my list of changes and I didn't do anything major in the last 1 1/2 weeks since I last opened it. Last time I opened it all I did was remove a few items from a store. I don't understand what could effect all previously saved backup files and make this area crash.
The area works fine ingame, except for one transition I need to change. Otherwise I would just leave it.

Sounds like you may be running out of memory or disk space.

well, I free'd up a bunch of disk space and increased the virtual memory. Still nothing. I have several exterior areas that are much larger than the bad one, that open fine. I guess I'll have to rebuild the whole area. bummer.

edit-
after some trial and error, I've narrowed it down to the .GIT file.
GIT - dynamic area information - game object instances and sound properties.
I'm not sure what that means, but I'm on the right track.

I got it! After racking my brain over what might effect the whole toolset, I remembered that I briefly tried out the FLIP scripting plugin (didn't like it). I don't know what it had to do with my problem, but after removing it, my problem was solved. whew.

I had the exact same problem...I had also forgotten that I had installed the same plugin, too! Removed it and now everything works fine. Very frustrating...I was on the verge of completely giving up. Thanks!
