Still working on my first run through of the game and I'm just about at the end of Act 3. Whenever I buy a new RPG of any sorts I play it on easy and don't use a guide and try to do everything possible. I decided that I was going to ramance Anders and because of that decision I always did his companion quests as soon as they were available. BIG MISTAKE for act 3. Anders became my main healer after I sent Bethany to the Wardens, ok, no big deal, he can revive the dead, heal us pretty good, sweet, that means I can play as my rogue without too much worry and bring the power houses to battle without too much fear of everyone dying. Act 3 comes along and my rogue is head over heals for Anders so of course I'm going to help with the super sketchy quest to find you what you need! Oh, I help you and you don't want to adventure with me anymore? pfffft, fine, be that way, I've got the power house crew and plenty of potions anyway. Doddling along, decide to go to the bone pit to see if maybe that's where this elusive lyrium vein I can't find is and----DRAGON. Holy crap I got whomped. Ok, no big deal, I'll go get Ande...oh wait...I can't. Crap. Spent an hour setting up tactics, whomped again. It took me 8 hours to finally set everything up, have my crew actually use potions like i asked them too, and beat the dragon. Albeit I found a little glitch that saved my tushy at the end or it would have taken even longer. Ugh.

So, In conclusion to my little rant, if Anders is your healer, I would suggest waiting until after you fight the High Dragon to do his quest.

Wait. He won't join your party? Has he disappeared or become unselectable in the party selection screen?

He's just unselectable. And if I talk to him in my house (he's moved in), he just keep ssaying how my support has meant a lot to him blah..

I think that may be because you romanced him, usually he'll stay with you even after his mission.

Remember kids: Love hurts, but so does not being able to resurrect someone.

There's the resurrection bombs. Mythal's Favor or whatever. If you're playing a rogue, just stealth, find your buddy's body, and toss a bomb at them. A magical healing bomb made from the tears of real elves. And by "real elves", I mean Merrill.

Yeah this is true, but, argh, I'm lazy haha, that would require work, whereas I could just set regroup to Anders tactics menu and voila, no thinking involved.

Maybe it's a bug? I romanced him and hauled him around pretty much everywhere. I don't remember him ever being unselectable.

Is he in black looking robes for you? He's wearing this ominous clothing that pretty much says he's gone to the dark side, but it looks like it's got feathers on it. I did his quest right off the rip in act 3 and haven't been able to use him since.

This definitely sounds like a bug, especially if you actually helped him with the quest.  I've romanced in almost all of my playthroughs so far and he's gotten the black robes and continued to travel with me in each one.

oh what the heck, Somehow I didn't get the Isabella, bug and I high-fived myself. Somehow I haven't run into any of my cinemas glitching and again I high-fived myself. No bugs no glitches, now Anders bugs out. I haven't even seen this mentioned as a possible glitch anywhere and I've looked all over to see if that was the case

Even after you do his Justice quest, he is in black robes, and you have romanced him, he should still be able to join in any quests in act 3. It must be a bug.

Sometimes characters have issues and wander off, unselectable. Try going to their home/base and talking to them there, that usually brings them back.

i have, I have talked to him in his clinic, and my house. I'm pretty sure it is a bug at this point.

So it's just occured to me that Anders' new black outfit may be bugged in my game, since I've never romanced him, but he always gets the black outfit after his last quest.
Is he only supposed to get that if you romanced him or is it a universal dark-side shift outfit (albeit unknown to Hawke)?

Have you checked to make sure he hasn't been kidnapped? I can't remember if the kidnapping quest is Act 2 or 3, but I know your companion will still appear at their home base, but be unavailable for your party.

Yeah - did your sibling die in the Deep Roads?

If so, the problem is that Anders has been kidnapped.

It looks like a bug. Romanced Anders has been a permanent companion in my playthrough. Dragon fell relatively easy with 3 mages + one meatshield (Fenris).

Staff bolt does little damage (although when you have 3 mages they pack a punch), but proper spells can finish off dragon quite easily. Well, he's never easy, but still.

@MoogleNut ... The black outfit for Anders will unlock for him after you do his quest Justice whether you romance him or not.

Also, that's a good thought - if your sibling died in the Deep Roads, then your LI is the one they kidnap I believe. So that could be it. Otherwise it's a bug, I haven't had this happen either.

woah who gets kidnapped? He became available again after he blew up the chantry but I'm pretty sure I did all the side quests available as nothing new popped up. My sibling didn't die in the deep roads, I sent Bethany to the Wardens.

you LI can be kidnapped in one of the quests in Act 3 if your sibling died in the deep roads, if not it'll be your sibling that gets kidnapped

oh yes yes, I remember now, it was Bethany that got kidnapped, so this whole thing must be some sort of bug. How disappointing

yup, gotta be. I romanced Anders on my first PT and he was with me the whole time--didn't run off.
