Where Does the Vitriol Come From? Whence Come the Haters?

I played Neverwinter Nights on the PC.  Loved the story.  Fell in love with Bioware.

With my original Xbox, I played Jade Empire, Knights of the Old Republic.  Loved them both, particularly Jade Empire.

On the 360, I've played ME 1 & 2 (easily my favorite games of all time) through multiple times.  I loved DA:O as well.  Played all the DLC for the game and loved it.  Every origin story, as much game time as possible.  I really looked forward to DA2.

After just playing the game all the way through on the 360, I'm surprised at the vitriol directed at this amaizng game.  Yes, it's not as epic in scope as DA:O, but it's still better than 90% of the games out there.  The comabt system is much more enjoyable to use, I LOVE the fact that my Hawke has a vocie, and the companion characters, particularly Merrill and Isabella, are pretty close to my favorite character in DA:O, Leliana.

If you played Merrill's quest to its tragic conclusion, how could you not feel something?  Or when the First Enchanter does *that* before the final battle--did you not say, "No no!  Don't do it!"  (I did.)  The ending felt a bit--flat--my character would never have just vanished after leaving Kirkwall in such a state--but on the whole, I really loved the game.

So, please, without hating ME, can anybody explain the hate toward the game?  Yes, it's different from DA:O, and maybe they shouldn't have billed it as a true sequel (unlike ME 1 & 2, you are definitely not playing the same story--it's more like the Elder Scrolls to me, where you are playing different stories in the same world that interlink).

But compared to most games that are out there?  It wins.  At least, it did to me.  On my 360.  Which may only irritate some of you even more, since I hear one of the biggest complaints is that they pandered to people like me...

So...my original question: Is it mostly PC players who are hating?

UPDATE: As I'm new to posting in forums, please forgive me if I've accidentally started a PC vs. console flamewar.  That was NOT my intention.  My goal was to honestly ask, based on what I was seeing here on the Bioware forums, why it SEEMED that most of the really nasty comments directed toward people who liked the game was coming from PC gamers.  A lot of people have seen the old name for this post (It is Mostly PC Users Who are Hating) and taken it to mean something far different from what I intended.

Sadly, most of the nasty comments on this thread seem to be PC vs. console user, which may only confirm my original suspicion...

It's mostly haters who are hating. Doesn't matter which platform they've played it on (if they've played it at all) people will find a way to trash something they don't like.

I wouldnt say hate. DA2 just doesnt hold the candle to Dragon Age series. It's not a bad game though. I enjoyed it.

I've been playing it on PS3, won't get it on PC until it's already been out for about a year or so to get the patches and some DLC on disk, maybe ultimate edition or something..

but I agree it's a fun game, been playing it ever since release and already completed it 4 times and going for 5... lol

I wasn't expecting another DA:O and think it is good that DA2 went in a different direction, change is good contrary to what some may say...

The characters, story and combat is really well done, there are a few things that could have been done better, but can't that be said about every game out there..?

Pretty sure it's 4chan, or RPGcodex. They are coming over here and spamming hate threads, because everyone else I know loves DA2.

I've just seen so much nasty stuff written about what is essentially a really good game. As amazing as its predecessor? No. But still, I'd rather waste 40+ hours on an "okay" Bioware title than 20 on any other publisher's stuff.

And really, I've tried playing other games on the PC. Can't do it. I much prefer consoles.

It's not "hating" just because you disagree, and it doesn't only come from PC gamers.

Disagree is one thing. But 90% of the threads are DA 2 SUCKS AS ITS MY OPINION. And from people with rather short registration dates. I'm surprised Bioware just doesn't shut down registration unless you have a CD key, would end alot of this crap real fast.

The game has its problems, but Guess what PC gaming isn't as big as it once was, and the game has its problems but its not like it climbed out of a pit that leads to hell.

Actually, it is hating. Disagreeing with something is one thing. The vitriol I've seen spewed toward this game--and people who like it (a thread I just read had one user telling another one to go kill themselves)--is not disagreement. It's deciding that because you don't like it, don't like the changes, then it stinks.

For most console-based players, many of the changes were better. Improved graphics, voiced character, different combat system. I get that they are a HUGE change from the PC version (which was imported to consoles the first time around), but really. Telling someone to "kill yourself" because they like DA2 and you don't? That's hating.

Wow, what an amazing discovery you've made here, that all PC users are elitists and hate DA2 because they're from 4chan or RPGcodex. If only the rest of us were that smart *end sarcasm*

Agreed. Bioware loves these kind of threads.

Why provide criticism when you can be a fanboy/girl by blindly defending a game/company no matter what?

lol @ the OP.

Ah.  Did you read what I wrote?  Yes, I liked the game.  But I made clear that I found the repeat environments, the abrupt ending--to name a few things--quite lame.  Like your post.  Do I think Bioware does a great job with their stories?  Yes.  Do I think they took chances with this game?  Yes.  Did all of them work?  No.

So high fives all around for what went right--and when something DOES work, it deseves praise--and kicks in the arse for the stuff that didn't.  And one for people who don't read everything a person writes.

To the OP, I started BioWare games with Baldur's Gate way back when and then after the BG action RPGs came out, and after I made my transition to consoles, I was hooked from then on. I've loved all BioWare RPGs since. However, there was one that I could never finish: Dragon Age Origins. I think if it had come out around the time of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, I would have eaten the game alive. That said, I am currently resuming the game and hope to finish it a few times before the dlc for Dragon Age II starts hitting.

It is...but that is based on the fact that DAO won like game of the year on PC or something to that effect. My point is...it's only natural to expect that this is where most of the "hate" is coming from. Just a thought.
