To the OP, I started BioWare games with Baldur's Gate way back when and then after the BG action RPGs came out, and after I made my transition to consoles, I was hooked from then on. I've loved all BioWare RPGs since. However, there was one that I could never finish: Dragon Age Origins. I think if it had come out around the time of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, I would have eaten the game alive. That said, I am currently resuming the game and hope to finish it a few times before the dlc for Dragon Age II starts hitting.

I will be accused of being a fanboy/fangirl, but who cares.  I think that's already happened.

In my opinion, Bioware is to gaming what Pixar is to filmmaking: all about story.  Even their lamest stories (A Bug's Life or Cars--or Jade Empire or DA2) are superior to what anyone else is telling.  I'd rather be part of a great story (or even a story that tries to be great, like DA2) than waste my time with anything else.

I finished Fable 3 a few weeks ago and can't even remember what the game was about.  I'm still thinking about what happened at the end of ME2--and I know I'll still be thinking about what happened with Merrill's quest long after I stop playing DA2.

Yes in the grand scheme of things it is not absoluitely terrible. It's a decent game by todays standards but a lousy game by BioWare's standards (or pre-EA standards?). It is very disheartening to see all the potential that was lost on this title.

Infact there are murmers on other forums of an upstart group planning to do something about the ever-increasing quality loss in the videogame industry (nothing illegal lol)......quality loss mostly driven by the publishers' draconian time-contraints. Apparently it was partially motivated by this lackluster sequel. If anyone is interested you can PM me about it.

You would have to look at everyone's profile not that it really matters at all.
I am playing this game on 360 with just some time watching a friend play on his laptop and I have a ton of complaints about both versions.

I played Neverwinter Nights on the PC.  Loved the story.  Fell in love with Bioware.

With my original Xbox, I played Jade Empire, Knights of the Old Republic.  Loved them both, particularly Jade Empire.

On the 360, I've played ME 1 & 2 (easily my favorite games of all time) through multiple times.  I loved DA:O as well.  Played all the DLC for the game and loved it.  Every origin story, as much game time as possible.  I really looked forward to DA2.

After just playing the game all the way through on the 360, I'm surprised at the vitriol directed at this amaizng game.  Yes, it's not as epic in scope as DA:O, but it's still better than 90% of the games out there.  The comabt system is much more enjoyable to use, I LOVE the fact that my Hawke has a vocie, and the companion characters, particularly Merrill and Isabella, are pretty close to my favorite character in DA:O, Leliana.

If you played Merrill's quest to its tragic conclusion, how could you not feel something?  Or when the First Enchanter does *that* before the final battle--did you not say, "No no!  Don't do it!"  (I did.)  The ending felt a bit--flat--my character would never have just vanished after leaving Kirkwall in such a state--but on the whole, I really loved the game.

So, please, without hating ME, can anybody explain the hate toward the game?  Yes, it's different from DA:O, and maybe they shouldn't have billed it as a true sequel (unlike ME 1 & 2, you are definitely not playing the same story--it's more like the Elder Scrolls to me, where you are playing different stories in the same world that interlink).

But compared to most games that are out there?  It wins.  At least, it did to me.  On my 360.  Which may only irritate some of you even more, since I hear one of the biggest complaints is that they pandered to people like me...

So...my original question: Is it mostly PC players who are hating?

Neverwinter nights was one of their worse stories.  The game was good for the tools it gave to the player.  Seriously, your character was going to hero academy and level 1 goblins attacked.  Whats her face aribeth refused to help because.. why?...because some goblins were watching her.  Who cares?  It was a horribly contrived, predictable story with no memorable characters.  Try Baldurs Gate 2

I believe I've played everything the same way as the OP. Including an X-Box version of Origins and DA2. And by the end of DA2 I was so mad at the fact it was made I was finishing for the achievement. The story didn't even make me finish it. I didn't care about Hawke or his companions. Kirkwall was in need of being nuked from orbit, and at the end of it was just relieved it was over. All of this sprang from a lack of a narrative I waited for. Something to replace the age-old "save the world" mentality. But at the end I felt like I was playing a super-extended Origin from DAO. One that lacked a frame work that made sense or anything to motivate me forward.

Ditto - it has its flaws, but it's still a good game. I'm exclusively a PC gamer, but that's mostly because I feel that I fritter away enough time on one system without complicating my life by adding a console into the mix. *chuckle*

Why would PC players hate the game? At least they can fix bugs/glitches that us console users are stuck with for at least a month. Not to mention auto attack...

It's people who know of their past games and remember when Bioware was a top RPG maker. Sadly they are not what they used to be and will die out unless they listen to the majority of their fanbase.

Valid criticisms are one thing (I'm sure we all have them), but the slew of hyperbolic melodrama directed at DA2 is -completely- unwarranted imo.

Yes, the recycled dungeon environments were disappointing, and there are some bugs that should really not have slipped through the net and been permitted to frolic into the release version.. but overall I enjoyed the game. More than I did DA:O, actually.

PC player here, btw.

You don't understand because your RAGE doesn't allow you to think clearly and objectively.

It doesn't. But telling someone to go kill themselves because they like DA2 is sort of pushing it a wee bit far don't you think?

DId you read what I wrote?  At all?

I have some serious problems with the game.  The ending, in particular, was quite abrupt and left me with a "what the heck?" feeling after playing for 40+ hours.

What I'm talking about is the nasty, nasty stuff.  People who are writing and posting some horrible attacks on Bioware, the people who like the game, etc.  I've watched over the last hour as one person has been banned, had their posts deleted, and come back several times just to say that anyone who likes the game should die in the nuclear accident in Japan.

Don't like the game's flaws?  I'm okay with that, and no, that's not hating.  Seriously.

After looking at your profile, you prove my point.  How far back do you have to go to "remember when..."?  DA:O?  ME2?  KOTOR?  NWN?  BG?

Just wondering...

I think those people are just 4chan/people with major problems. The game has it's problems and the ending is garbage but it's enjoyable.

I'm purely a PC gamer. I've tried consoles, but I don't like gaming on them. At all. Controller gameplay just feels so limited to me, I can't stand it. But that's just personal preference, not 'eliteness' or whatever.

I didn't hate DA2. Overall... well... I liked it. However, that's not praise. It's the exact opposite. It's the only BioWare game I've ever 'liked' this little. All others I have liked a lot more, or outright loved. DA2 left me with an overwhelming feeling of sadness and disappointment. I won't bother going into detail.

So... PC gamer here. Don't hate, but don't feel like the game was made for me, either. (Don't know if that's because I'm a PC gamer or because I prefer older style RPGs, or both.)

Nicely put.  I wouldn't go so far as to say, "Overwhelming," though.  For me it was "underwhelming."  Parts of the story, and I keep coming back to one in particular (Merrill's story) were quite compelling.  But at the end, I was "underwhelmed" and I really wanted to be at least "whelmed."

There are plenty of reasons for people to dislike DA2. Disliking a bad product does not make someone a 'hater'. I loved Dragon Age: Origins.

Correct. And neither does a person liking a game that you disliked make them a "fanboi."

What makes a "hater" is when someone makes a comment like the OP alluded to, that if you like a game you should kill yourself, you are retarded, you are blind, you are a console playing mouth breather etc.

What makes a "fanboi" is someone that criticizes everyone who has any problems with the game because they can't stand the fact that other people don't share their same opinion about their beloved game/product/company etc.

Well my profile won't tell you much, but it was BG that satisfied the junkie in me and I have looked for good RPGs ever since, no matter the developer. PC gamer here and most of my posts have been about what I dislike. The more I play it, the more I like it, although I am not looking forward to the ending (I avoid looking at spoilers but they are always around even in the general forums).

It is the story that saves it so far. I have gotten used to the combat. But there are still things I am not happy about. I actually agree with you that it is better than many or even most games out there. This is probably part of the reason so many express our disappointment, actually. We expect a lot from BW and usually they deliver.

I haven't played all of their titles -- partly they did not appeal -- Jade Empire being billed as "action" RPG, for example. But I just bought it. Sword and sorcery is my preference but I did buy ME (played all of 10 minutes or so and haven't reinstalled it yet because I have to redownload it) and am going to buy KOTOR on a compilation disk.

However, DAO will go into that little pile of games that I know I will play over and over. And I will probably buy the next DA title - maybe not preorder though. But I am a sucker for party based, third person perspective and there certainly are not enough of those games around.

ps. I would love to see the demographic breakdown by age/platform/income/whatever versus opinion of DA2.
edit-- LOL at "whelmed" - l like that. A good way to put it. Image IPB
