Hey guys I've searched the internet for a solution but have found no answer.

For some reason my game only speeds up after I have died and plays perfectly until I go to a new area such as the communication room after recruiting somone. At that point I have to wait till I die again before the game will play properly again. I have tried numerous possible performance solutions such as toggling my affinity and changing the cpu priority settings. However it baffles me how it runs perfectly after a death up to the next cutscene or area change.

And incase it matters here's my specs

CPU : Duo P8400
OS : Vista 32bit
Graphics Card : Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS
RAM : 4GB

Everything has met the minimum specs listed at Can You Run It and I have played Mass Effect 2 several times before on this machine without problems.

Thanks for all your time everyone.

Your system is below spec for the game. It states quite clearly in the system requirements on the box, and on the Steam page;

Please note that NVIDIA GeForce 7300, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, and 9300 are below minimum system requirements

The fact that you are running the M version, or Mobility version, also compounds the issue. The reason why it runs smoother after you die, is because a lot of the data that has to be fetched is now cached, giving windows more resources to put towards rendering the video output.
Turn your video settings down to minimum and you might get a slight improvement. Otherwise, get a real computer.

That's why some people on this forum tell people not to use Can You Run It. It's very inaccurate especially when checking the graphics card. That tool looked at your graphics chipset and saw that it has the right shader model and features but completely ignored the clock speeds. That's why it told you you meet the system requirements when in fact this is much slower than the absolute minimum.

I had an issue with some of the early 2 series of drivers of my vid card only running about 1/10 max capacity. I can usually run around 45-60 fps on ME2, but I upgraded and would see 4 fps, until I rolled back the driver to an earlier one. So have you upgraded drivers since the last time you played?? IF so you might try rolling back to earlier set. Also you may check a later set to see if it helps, because for the most part the latest has fixed the issue for me, but I have heard of some issues for people with the latest and ME2.

Good Luck.
